Girls Pre-Teen Dormer Bedroom Makeover

Today I am sharing a makeover we gave to Maila, daughter of my best friend, Laila! I had started with Naomi, then Leo and Simeon, now lastly, the youngest girl and child in the family. She has patiently waited for her bedroom to be finished and it was worth it! Malia loves cozy cottage decor, so we wanted to keep that in mind as we did this quick, 6 hour makeover for her.

Bedroom Before-

They had this twin bed in their previous home. While it is a great bed, it blocks too much of the window and really could be bigger. Also the rug was something they had, and it was too small for the room.

Bedroom After-

We started with painting the walls and the ceiling the same color, to make it feel bigger and extra cozy. The walls are now Sandbark from Sherwin Williams. And a big upgrade was going from a twin size bed to a queen. She loves it!

I found the queen bed from walmart.com for under $200 on roll-back! It is great quality and pretty blueish gray color.

The headboard has a pretty simple detail that feels like the cottage style she loves. Also found these sweet sheets that are from the Pioneer Women collection.

The bedding is a mixture of linens I had collected over time! This pillow is really similar to the enter pillow, the texture and price can’t be beat!

We painted the dresser and nightstand, in Natural Cream from Benjamin Moore. It was a quick project that didn’t require any prep, we used a paint and primer all in one (Valspar Cabinet and Furniture paint).

The magic of paint! Totally transformed the dresser. Just shows that you can mix new and old to complete a bedroom in a quick project!

We also painted this side table to use as a nightstand for her. Hung this Better Homes and Gardens wood mirror to break up all the painted furniture. (Lamps are new, from here).

LOVE all the bold colors in this rug and also that it feels very monochromatic with the walls, restful for a bedroom.

The velvet ottomans are the perfect finishing piece to the room.

This dresser was a second-hand find that we left the color it was already painted. I had the angel art in my girls old bedroom, they are a sweet addition in Malias bedroom.

Always a spot for a diffuser in our bedroom makeovers, with a vintage bowl for oils right by it.
