We went back to my friend Laila’s house to give her son Leo a bedroom makeover! You might remember when we gave her two boys a makeover for their shared bedroom. Now that they moved into a new house, the boys don’t share a room anymore. They actually were totally fine to share again, but there were enough rooms for them to have their own and get a bigger bed. Leo loved the color we painted his walls in his previous bedroom, a dark gray and the colorful rug, so that was our starting off point for his bedroom. Gray walls and fun rug!
Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post

I started off with a design plan. Everything is from Walmart.com. Making it easy to quickly order everything so we could get him feeling comfortable in his new home and room! I found affordable and also really unique pieces! I especially love his metal locker nightstands!
Teen Bedroom Before-

This before photo is actually of his brothers bedroom. We didn’t get a before photo of Leo’s bedroom before paint, but it looked EXACTLY like this when they moved in (minus the detailing around the window). Tan walls with a light blue accent wall and a twin bed.
Teen Bedroom After-

The after!! Leo was especially excited to get a queen bed instead of the twin he had when he shared a bedroom with his brother. Walls are painted in Gray from Benjamin Moore and the trim and ceiling are painted in Urban Nature from Benjamin Moore.

We are calling this style Western Vintage Modern! Leo is an avid baseball player and I thought he would want more of a sports bedroom. I really didn’t know what they wanted when I originally picked things for their shared bedroom. But when I found this rug and we showed him, he was a big fan, then he started to comment on things he liked that we got thrifting, so we did more of that! We learned he liked vintage things and even a western/ Yellowstone spin! I am here for the Yellowstone vibe!!!

Let’s chat about the bed first! I found it at Walmart.com HERE. I really liked the wood on the headboard and footboard. It feels really sturdy for bed under $180!

For the bedding I started with these organic stripe sheets from Gap Home, exclusively sold at Walmart! Soft and I love the subtle pattern. Then I used these $15 22×22 frayed edge pillows as the back pillow, they are perfect for a low headboard, I did upgrade the inserts to a down insert. And these 20×20 chunky knot pillows in olive green, again only $15!! Perfect way to balance the green in the nightstands.

The pillow in the front I found vintage shopping. I think it is important to have a mix of old with new. This will make your home feel thoughtfully collected! The fox art over his bed is from my favorite Lindsay Letters, we needed it really big and I hung it low to hide a utility type box on the wall. Then hung a vintage baseball pennant over that! Old and new. Plus it pulled in the red.

The quilt was off our bed! This is a king quilt on a queen bed, I think it looks nice! And the check duvet cover was an instant YES for his room. Pulls in the gray on the walls too.

The metal lockers make for a really fun nightstand! These are from Walmart.com, from the Queer Eye Collection (love them!) and come in several different colors.

Hung these $40 sconces over each nightstand instead of using a lamp. I love these sconces for several reasons. #1- They plug-in, no need to hard-wire them or use the magic light trick. #2- The cord gives an industrial vibe, especially looks good on the dark wall. #3- The sconces are on a dimmer! You can turn up the brightness or down. #4- Perfect solution when you have a smaller nightstand, instead of trying to squeeze in a lamp. I am a big fan!

Found those fun cowboy paintings when we were second-hand shopping. Used a big clip to hang them rather than buying frames. Also Leo loves his diffuser for sleep and helps with the boy bedroom smells! Yes! Wood bowl to store all his oils is a nice touch too!

This view is fun! Notice the green trim?! I used this simple black curtain rod for the curtain panels. I had ordered these Gap Home Curtains but I ordered them too short! So last minute we ran to a local store and found these panels that were long enough to touch the floor. We hung the rod brackets about 10″ off the window, so the panels don’t block any of the window. And about 8-10″ above the window to draw your eye up! I always do 2 curtain panels on each side and sometimes three if needed.

Really like all the colors in this rug! I have a rug guide here to help you pick the right size!

Don’t you love the green on the doors?? That green got better after two coats of paint!

Laila and I found that green metal dresser when we were at a consignment shop, it is really cool! A friend of Laila’s picked it up and said to her “did you get this for free?” ha! The beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Luckily Laila loves plants as much as I do, she will make sure these survive in Leo’s room. Ella, my 14 year old loves plants in her room too! She will even water and take care of them. Teaching them early!

Thanks for taking the tour! Hope you walked away with an idea to implement in your home!

You just can’t go wrong with that gray. It’s my absolute favorite. I painted my bedroom it too.
Love this room! Are the sheets charcoal or gray? It links to charcoal, but looks closer to the gray in the pictures. Thanks!
The sheets are charcoal, although they do look more like the gray!
HI there! I’d love to know where the last pillow is from, the multicolored one with red.
I thrifted it! You can find some on Etsy HERE
What sheen did you use for the paint?
