Today I wanted to share 7 Things Every Guest Room Needs! All the while sharing a guest room makeover that I did in two hours (plus the couple hours doing the design plan…it is all about the prep-work before!) This guest room belongs to a family in our community….who I met one time and then asked if I could makeover their guest bedroom. Is that weird? Or do you wish that it happened to you?? Well, this little nook was just screaming for wallpaper and fluffy bedding!! It had to be done.
Thanks to The Company Store for sponsoring this post
Guest Bedroom Before and After-

Isn’t wallpaper so perfect here? I did the Gold Rick Rack from my wallpaper collection. Added the fluffiest bedding, a rug and just used tables that were in the room already! Who wants to spend the night??

7 Things Every Guest Room Needs-

#1- Comfortable Bed- the only way you will know if it is comfy is if you actually get in bed! – A few days before spend some time in the guest room—even get in the bed! You all know I’m all about a comfy, fluffy bed!

I ordered bedding from The Company Store, one of my favorites for comfy, fluffy bedding. I started with this Floral Duvet Cover, because it had a pop of mustard to pull in the wallpaper. And I personally have to sleep with a duvet cover, so it is a must-have for a guest room! This Ultra Duvet Insert is my go-to, it is a luxury item that will last years and years and years…did I say it will last forever? Because it basically will if you take care of it.

I have a recipe for making a bed that I always follow. Soft sheets, cozy quilt, fluffy duvet with quality insert. Pillows I do 4 shams and 2 euros. If you follow this recipe you will successfully make a fluffy bed for yourself and your guests.
- Diamond Patterned Sheets (when you have fun sheets, show them off!)
- White Standard Sham (these are GORGEOUS!!!!) with these Extra Firm Inserts
- White Euro Sham (scroll back up….do you see the detailing in these euros??? The velvet texture from the design is just amazing!!)
- Floral Sham (these are hidden in the back for their sleeping pillows)
- Floral Duvet Cover with Ultra Duvet Insert
- White Velvet Quilt (this is a luxury item- if you have the money to spend, it is so worth it- velvet soft)
PS- all the bedding 20% off!!! CODE: A21SLEEP

#2 Extra Pillows- Are the pillows comfy? I like to offer a variety of pillows in shapes and sizes! Remember Goldilocks and The Three Bears? Ya, it is like that…they need one that is “just right”.

#3- Extra Blankets– It can get chilly at night here in CT so I like to make sure there are enough blankets. In this guest room they have this darling little built-in shelves. I put some sleepy room sprays on the top shelf and folded some extra blankets on the other shelves. Everyday items can be used as decor too!

#4- Make it smell nice– Even though your house may look clean, it won’t mean anything if it smells! Make sure you’ve got a diffuser running when they arrive. These home owners love oils, so they have that covered. Fresh flowers can make a rooms smell nice too!

#5- Extra Lighting– In the middle of the night you don’t want your guests trying to search for a light. Make sure to have lamps on each side of the bed. And if it were my choice I would want every overhead light to have a dimmer switch!

#6- Plants! -Not sure if you know this about me but, I love plants!! Bringing house plants into the home can warm up a space, and add a relaxing, restful ambiance. They also have numerous health benefits! I didn’t add a snake plant in here, but should have! Snake Plants are unique since they convert a lot of CO2 (carbon dioxide) to O2 (oxygen) at night, making it ideal to have several in your bedroom.

#7- Spot to put shoes on– add a chair to the room, a stool or a bench. Your guests will appreciate the spot to sit and put shoes on or to place a bag. It is all in the little details that really make your guests feel extra taken care of. PS- shared the rug details here.

Right now you might not have guests, but now you have lots of time to get ready for when you do!! Or use these tips for your own bedroom. Treat yourself! Enjoy a cozy, fluffy bed and soft space to walk.
Will you link those pretty lamps too please?
yes! Find them HERE
Please link the sheets you used.
oh whoops! Thanks! I update the blog post and HERE you go
I love the built ins! I’m going to use these rules for my own bedroom 😊
And of course your wallpaper looks great there!
Thanks Paula! I love that little built-in too!!! Yes, please! Totally apply the rules to your room ♥️
Where is that white square side table from. Love it w/ the basket!
It is way cute! They have had it for awhile!
Where are the nightstands from? I especially like the one on the left.
They had it for awhile from Home Goods
I love everything but especially the wallpaper and the bedframe. Do you mind sharing the link?
The bed frame is older.
The wallpaper is linked here- https://nestingwithgrace.com/wallpaper-collection-is-live/
What a cute and inviting guest room! Do you have a link for that beautiful bed frame?
They have had it awhile, got it at a local store. Sorry!
Do you have a link for the basket in the nightstand? Love this!!
It was Walmart- better home and gardens- but I don’t see it on their website anymore
Love this room!
Do you use the ultra weight during the summer months? I love the look of a big, fluffy comforter but am struggling with the extra warmth of it. I’ve been searching for a light weight comforter that still looks full and fluffy. Any recommendations?
I LOVE it all year. I find ours cooling in the summer! You could even just do sheets and a duvet with no quilt…..
Looks great! Cute basket under the night stand. Can you link it?
It was Walmart- better home and gardens- but I don’t see it on their website anymore
Can you tell me what size the bed and rug are? I love the ‘spacing’ around the bed and rug. I just bought a new rug for my ‘cozy’ master using your rules and I feel like its too small! But if I went bigger it would swallow the room! This looks perfect and it seems to be the same space but my bed is a queen…… wondering if this one is a full? HELP!
This is a queen bed and I did an 8×10 because the room is pretty big. I always recommend a 6×9, 7×9 or 8×10 for a queen. I shared it here and more bed tips with rugs- https://nestingwithgrace.com/how-to-pick-the-right-size-rug-with-guide/
