I found a few fun new accessories to add to our home and some of these things I am sharing are tried and true pieces. A lot of the ideas I am sharing can be duplicated if you keep your eye out while thrifting. From decorating with games, printing candid photos to frame to hanging that gorgeous platter on the wall you have hidden in your cupboard. Happy decorating!

#1- Practical Things as Decor, Games, Cups and More
I love to decorate with practical things, items that we actually use. We put trivia games in this radish low bowl, not necessary, but I layered a smaller bowl inside (similar here) and have been playing/asking the questions every night at dinner. It always sparks fun conversation and energy. The kids ask “mom are you going to do the questions?”. Our favorite is this trivia game, it has 4 questions on the card and the answer on the back, you can typically find a question that works for all ages “How many fingers does Mickey Mouse have on one hand?” or “Name the US state that ends in the letter g”. We also like this trivia set that has yes or no questions. We have this set of questions, that is more a conversation starter “if you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?”. I put all three games in the same bowl!
If you are going to buy something, I personally try to find the prettiest version of that item from scissors to measuring cups, then I can also use it as decor. I just got this cute floral set of dominos that I put in this adorable low tray. I really love collecting cute games, and then I use them for decor, when they are out we reach for them more!
And when you buy cute cups, you can use them as decor too! These are my favorite cups, I’ve shared them before, and I still love them. I like that I can stack them on my shelves, and that they are a perfect size.
#2- Design Books for Inspiration and Double as Decor-
I love to thrift books, but sometimes you just want that new design book and it is nice to support those designers. While I do love shopping the small corner bookstore, but if I am in a hurry and want to grab it now, I suggest checking Amazon, they run specials on books often. I just got this design book and adore it!!! Also really like this book, it was taken to a favorite things party and it was a hot item.
#3- Frames and Unique Gallery Walls
My girls and I love to find fun posters and large prints. We found this Papiers Découpés Poster (27″x39″) and hung it with poster sticky dots. I also love framing posters too, for the Les Fleurs Poster (19″x27″), I used this frame (I did 22″x28″ with mat it is 18″x24″) we used to give it more of a finished custom look and unique gallery.
Papiers Découpés Poster // White Frame // Les Fleurs Poster // Chicago Record (thrifted) // I Love You Poster (from Lonely Ghost not online) // Wood Frame
I bought this large plate rack and hung this large leaf platter on it! A different kind of art. Such a fun little corner in my drink room. Cute idea to hang a collection of pretty plates and platters in a kitchen, or dining room. I also bought this smaller lighter blue one. Leave as art or pull down and use as needed in the kitchen.
I love to print out candid photos, and find unique frames. I printed that photo at Walgreens, of Ella and Lola in Central Park, a favorite moment I always think “My sister and I have each other’s back”. You can easily print out art at home and frame in thrifted frames or I used this wicker weaved frame love the texture and scallop detail.

We also love these 3 little gold frames, just by being small, they add a sweet touch to a bookcase. Great to keep on hand to give as a gift, we like to print a photo just on plain paper and frame it. I also have these green frames, love the pop of color.
#4- Diffuser Station with Stand and Glass Carafe
You know I love to diffuse. And it is extra helpful and also pretty to create a diffuser station. A bottle of water to quickly refill a diffuser is so nice, I found this pretty detailed glass carafe. In our office, I have my aria diffuser displayed on this matte green ceramic pedestal, that is gorgeous! Also the pedestal is a cute way display cakes or treats, like the chocolate croissants we just cooked, cute with a glass dome over to keep goodie fresh too! Double duty!
I created a similar set-up in our guest room with the essential home diffuser, in this low bowl and the same detailed carafe. You an easily thrift glass jars and bowls too to go by your diffuser.
#5- Glowing with Taper Candles and Lamps-
The main event on my dining table. I like having items on my table that will be put to use and won’t block the view from those sitting across from each other at the table. I love this simple but well made candelabra, we have these led taper candles in them. They slid in perfect. Sometimes I wrap clear elastics around the base of the candles to make sure they sit snug and tight, but these already did. So cozy to have them on in the evening, inviting everyone to stay around the dinner table to stay a little longer.
This is a really small lamp, perfect for a kitchen counter or inside a bookshelf. I love having items that give off a glow all around the house. I usually don’t have an overhead light on. Just lots of items giving off cozy light. I have this lamp in a cabinet in my basement.
I did a similar lamp, in my mother-in-laws reading room. There was already a hole in the bookcase, making it easy to plug-in!
#6- Curtain Rods-
Whenever I do a makeover, and even in my own home, I use this black curtain rod, it also comes in gold. It’s sturdy, I like the color, and I especially love the price. The curtains are usually the focal point, so I like keeping the rod simple and a black curtain rod are like eyebrows on a face! In our primary bedroom, I did three of these Curtain Panels on each side of the window. I suggest at least two panels on each side for all windows, and stack them off the window so you don’y block light and your window looks larger.
#7- Pillow Inserts and Pillow Covers-
Quality pillow inserts MAKE any pillow look better! I typically go up two sizes, so if the pillow cover is 20″ I do a 22″ insert. In these darling 20″ ric rac pillow covers, I used these 24″ down inserts, but the 22″ down insert, did look nice too, just preferred the 24″. IKEA has these 26″ inserts, I like but they are pretty flat, so I put those in 20-22″ pillow covers.
#8- Whimsical Garland
Also loving whimsical garlands for kids rooms. Lola’s bedroom window we have this star garland, this felt bow garland and bird garland.
