While we were making over Luke’s room, (that I talked about on the blog Monday) I wandered around to the rest of the home (naturally) and noticed how great their kitchen was! They recently made it over in April, with all Ikea cabinets. It looked great. But the dining space was just missing the finishing touches. They had built-in an awesome sideboard, but Rachel (homeowner) hadn’t decorated it at all, it was empty. As soon as I saw it I knew shelves would be PERFECT in the dining space. I had literally styled the shelves in my head in the 2 minutes of her showing me the space.
Rachel had asked me what pillows I would do in the dining banquette area, and I gave her some ideas. She had also asked if I would do a mirror over the sideboard, because that is what a lot of people suggested to her. A mirror is a big no for me in a dining space- who wants to watch themselves eat?? Not me. I guess it is a good way to not want to eat in your dining room!
Later I text her and asked “do you care if I just finish that space for you? You don’t have to buy or do anything. I got you covered!” She was onboard. And she is SO deserving. Rachel has a special needs son, who is the cutest thing ever, but can be hard at times, bless his heart. Rachel also works full-time. I wanted to give this to Rachel, a space that she is in often serving her family.
I actually had a partnership with Walmart this month, and I can really feature anything I want (the reason why I LOVE working with them). I spotted some great pieces on Walmart.com that were “Loved by Elle Decor and Domino Magazine”. I ordered several items, not knowing exactly what I was going to do with them, just that I loved them. Well, when I saw Rachels space and it was like I had bought all of the pieces JUST for her. It was meant to be.
That is little reminders from God that I am doing exactly and serving exactly who I should be.
Let’s first take a look at the Loved by Elle Decor and Domino Magazine Items from Walmart-

Now look at some of the pieces I was able to use in the mini dining/kitchen area below-
Kitchen Dining Area BEFORE and AFTER-
Do you spot some of the Walmart pieces? Also I brought some items from my home to give her that would look better in her space. And my sweet friend Diane Rath from @therathproject saw me sharing in stores what I was working on today for Rachel. She text me and offered some items that she had and wasn’t using! I seriously could not have finished this space without her pieces. The large FAIRFIELD graphic art was from her (the frame was damaged, so Luke and Rachel did some repairs to it!) the pink pot I put the maiden hair fern in, the tray the coffee maker is on, the blue pot with the other fern and the art with the wood frame. It is a collaboration of love for Rachel. From one mom to the other.
PS- Walls are painted in Sherwin Williams Light French Gray
It all started with the Dining/Kitchen Shelves-
This morning I was at our local home improvement store looking for some things to finish up Luke’s Room and spotted brackets and shelves to makeover this dining space. I was thinking we were going to have to make something. I was thrilled that I could buy it all for under $50!!! I used THESE brackets and spray painted them in my favorite gold spray paint- Rust-Oleum Satin Bronze. And then I found THIS Laminate Wood Shelf (no painting!).
I will just let the pictures do the talking…..
Just want to point out how I try to balance out the colors and textures. You will see the glass cups repeated, the blues, the pinks, wood tones, and plants! It is a great way to visually tell a story.
PS- the art on the left came from Diane too! And I gave her some plants and things to finish off the dining table!
Dining Space BEFORE and AFTER-
See the texture on THIS pillow?? So good right?

You are such a kind, thoughtful and generous person Brooke. The space looks great, and it didn’t take all that much to make a big difference. Way to go!
I forgot to mention Kevin. What can I say… he’s always willing to help out. He’s the best!
Well, when I stop crying I’ll comment. 😢 It’s just so beautiful! All you do is beautiful. If adults admitted to having people they aspire to be like, then you’re my number 1. ❤ And to see things i know came from your own home warms my heart Every. Single. Time.
Not only do you have an eye for decorating but you have a kind heart!
Great make over!
What an inspiring project…the whole thing. Beautiful in every way.
Love the update and those gold brackets! However, the link above brings up the shelves. Can you update where you purchased the brackets?
Sorry! Here are the bracket links- HERE
Brackets HERE in Rust-Oleum pure gold spray paint.
White Shelves HERE
Your an angel in disguise! God Bless you for what you did for Rachel and her family!
Beautiful job! Question, did you have to secure the shelves or are they just laying on top?
Thank you 😊
we did screw the shelves into the bracket- they came with screws to do that
Everything you do is so perfect! I am amazed! I bet she adores the space and it helps to lift her spirits!!!
Any idea where the table is from? The narrow size is perfect for my small dining space.
I LOVE this! It looks so good, and I’m sure she was so appreciative. Your giving spirit is so sweet. One question: does she really use that computer standing up? LOL! I always wonder when I see things like that. Great job!
she does!!
This is stunning!! Do you know what wall color that is?
Also would like to know the wall color.
