We have a lot of projects in the works right now! I thought it would be fun to share all the design plans we have going. Because honestly they take up a lot of my tome to create! Also wanted to (again) show important it is for any room transformation to do a design board or mood board or design plan. Whatever you call it. It is all the same. A plan to get you going towards your vision. You might think “what if you don’t have a vision?” Well you have to start somewhere! Find an inspiration piece then go from there. It could be a room you found on Pinterest or Instagram. It could be wallpaper that you fell in love with. I have designed a room off of an Anthropolgie floral mug before! Find something and plan your room around it!
I will share the three projects we are working on. A dining room, laundry room, kids bedroom and master bedroom. The bedrooms will be done in June when I go to Utah to finish them! For each of these projects I started with one thing and I will share what that one thing is below.
Let’s answer some frequently asked questions that come up whenever I share that we are doing a room makeover.
Design Board-
I have done a blog post all about how to create your own design board. It is so easy ANYONE can create their own Design Plan. And I think everyone SHOULD create a plan before buying one single thing. This will save you so much time and money!! I use Pic Monkey. But honestly you could just do it in a blank word document. I pay for Pic Monkey because I use it daily for my blog and so much more. (Find my blog post on creating a design plan HERE).
Design Fee and working with a Designer-
I used to offer E-Design and create these design boards for clients. I do not anymore. Creating a design board for someone else TAKES A LOT OF TIME. I have to charge a lot of money for it to be worth my time. Most designers charge per room to create a design plan, a flat $700 for example. Then the client is required to use the designers links or buy through the designer and they earn some sort of commission on items the client buys. Also set-up and installing accessories is an hourly fee in most cases. The hourly rate depends on a lot of factors, but an average design fee is $100 an hour.
You could spend hours and hours searching for the right thing for someone. Then have them come back to say they don’t like it. I will say that I set it up from the start that I would do one revision for clients. Basically when you hire a designer it is because you like what THEY do! That doesn’t mean I think everyone should have a house that looks like mine. But they should value my opinion and my “why” for selecting what I did. If you are the client or the designer, the budget should always be talked about. If I had a hard time finding the right thing in their price point I would show them an option, then they could be on the hunt for something similar!
How I work now-
I choose not to go into homes just as a designer. I wear by blogger hat now. Often I am approached by brands and they want me to use their product and pay me to use it. I only work with brands that I would buy or I think my readers would be interested in seeing. My home is done, sometimes I will switch something out if I find a better option with the sponsor, then I will give my piece to a friend or family. But majority of the time, I try to avoid doing things in my home, unless it is something I was wanting to change anyways. When I am looking to feature a sponsored product in a friend or family members home I will pray and ask for help and guidance on who needs this. Every single time I get an answer and honestly it comes that day. I end up having a conversation with a friend, they ask me what wallpaper I would pick for their entry and sometimes I can say, let me makeover that space for you! I gift them the item and some other pieces that I buy myself that are “musts” to make the room come together. And I then work with their budget to complete the rest of the space. This creates content for me to share with all of you and also blesses someones life with freshened up space in their home!
*I am trying to figure out a way to makeover more readers homes too! So stay tuned!
Current Design Boards and Projects-
Dining Room Design Board-
This dining room belongs to my friend Brenda. We recently made over her entry HERE. Our plan is to add board and baton to the wall the mirror is on. Remove mirror and hang a smaller piece of art instead that is better balanced with the sideboard underneath it. Brenda is going to sell her dining set on Craigs List or our local FB Market Place Tag Sale Site. She is getting a new dining table and chairs along with a sideboard. Yes, she could paint the set she has, but doesn’t want to keep it and paint. Adding a rug for color and to pull the space together! New chandelier and sconces on either side of the new art (the art was mine, I am giving her). The rug was the starting off point in this space! (See tips on painting furniture HERE).

Laundry Room Design Board-
I have been wanting to do a laundry room makeover! Seeing that our’s is in our unfinished basement, not exciting at all. This laundry room belongs to my friend Brandy. We are going to paint her tile floor in a gray patio and porch paint! The wallpaper was the starting off point in this space, planning on wallpapering the entire room! Also add some Ikea cabinets above the washer and dryer and add some open shelves over the sink. And switch up the lighting!

Grandkids Bunk-Room Design Board-
This grandkid bunk room belongs to my mother-in-law! She is one who does not work off of a design board. She likes to shop and just get it done. She was out shopping and kept texting me pictures asking “should I get this?” I told her I don’t work like that! haha! We need a design board and a plan, then she can go out shopping for things in the plan! We kept the white bunkbeds. And got all new Beddy’s Bedding for all the beds, the black and white Beddy’s were our starting off point! Painted the entire room and added some wallpaper. This room is almost done! I just need to get to Utah to take some “after” pictures!!!

Master Bedroom Design Board-
My friend from High School, Molly had me come and help her do her nursery when I was in Utah last summer. So I need to take pictures of the nursery to share. Then we started her master bedroom. Finally getting it finished up to share this summer! The bed was my starting off point. I actually gave her two options a super neutral bedroom with a cream rug and white bedding or this plan with a little more color. She went with this! Molly also wanted to add wallpaper behind the bed, so I added that on too!

Hope that gave you a little more of a background as to how these projects start and how you can easily duplicate them too!
If you get a minute – HA! Could you please give me the measurements of the “BIKE ART” that I’ve seen in your house and your friends sunroom. How big is the front wheel? How big is the back wheel and most important, the final FRAMED SIZE. (I use to have a sofa sized bike art that was black and orange but no longer goes with my decor, and is wrapped and stored in the garage.). I am obsessed with your blue one and my intention is to paint one myself! I could really use a head start with the size. Thank you sooo much .
PS I ♥️your site. I live in an 1100 sq ft house in a Miami neighborhood where like your area, they tear down and build million dollar McMansions. 😩
You just confirmed why I love following you! When I read how you work now I literally got chills and my eyes filled with tears. It blessed me so much to know how you give back. You could so easily redo an already perfect space just because it was given to you. But instead you realize where your blessing comes from and you choose to pay it forward and bless someone else in return! This totally melts my heart! Much love to you and your family! 😍
Hi, I’m interested in the laundry room light but the link takes me to Pinterest, not to the item. 😁.
I will fix! Just started doing that! Here- https://rstyle.me/~aRtT3
Hi! When I scroll and click on the images, it creates pin. Is there any way to shop the products listed? Thank you for sharing – your design boards are beautiful!
Sorry! Just fixed it!!!
HI-
I’m trying to shop a lot of these, but it’s just linking me to pinterest? Not sure if it’s just me?
Thanks!

Hi I’m wondering where the light is from in the dining room makeover? I clicked on it and it brought me to Pinterest but did not give source.. love all you do, thanks for sharing
I live local in Fairfield in a condo (young girl, first house!) and would love a way to spruce up my white kitchen with a wallpaper wall!
Hey sweetie! Love love love EVERYTHING thing you do!!! Could you give me a link to the navy rug from your friends bedroom? The link took me to Pinterest 🙂
Just fixed! It was being weird today! Thanks!
Where is the dresser from in the master bedroom? I didn’t see it as a link.

I love your process!! Your projects are so fun to watch and turn out beautifully! If you were my neighbor I’d happily hand any room in my home over to you! If you need another dining room…it’s yours!! Lol!! Thanks for always sharing!!
These mini makeovers are my favorite thing you do! I love your design boards; I’ve now made 2, thanks to you, on Word! I designed a youth space at our church with a combination of new and thrifted items. I had actually picked out a sofa at World Market, and then it popped up on Craigslist the exact day I was about to order! Anyway. it had made the designs so much more cohesive and come together – so much better than buying piece by piece (like your MIL and I did before!) Just wanted to say thank you!
Thank you so much Marian!!!! I love hearing that you did a youth space. That is amazing.
