I credit this window seat idea to Lola and her friend Maria Elena. Kevin and I were moving around chairs, as one does. We moved the swivel white chair down to our living room that was up here in our family room. While the space was without a chair, Lola and her friend moved the two ottomans over to the window, creating a little window seat. I thought it was so cute and creative. They were sitting their playing dolls and looking outside. I casually mentioned on my Instagram Stories how I loved the look, and of course now wanted a window seat there!
Above is what it looked like before. We did have another chair to put in place of the white swivel chair, a leather recliner I have had for years. But the chair there wasn’t always the best fit when we pulled out the sleeper sofa for guests, it felt a little tight and hard to walk around. And we have guests often. I did ask all of you on Instagram to vote and it was over 80% of you who said YES to the window seat.
The in-between “Lola idea”. Which is also a really good tip- if you are considering making a furniture change, try to duplicate the “look” with things you already have to get an idea of if you like it.
Kevin saw my post on Instagram about the window seat and said “so when do you want that window seat built?” Me- “oh whenever” But really me “like yesterday”. Ha. I really didn’t even have to ask, he went to the store and got all of the supplies. I share this also to show Kevin reading instructions on how to operate that saw. We did have a saw before, but not a great one. So he upgraded.
Really it was his first time building a window seat on his own. Kevin and his brother had built one for their sister, which we have a full detailed blog post on HERE. If we can do it, YOU can do it! It really is easy to add a built-in window seat!
LOVE all the extra storage. In a small 1100 square foot house, we need all the storage we can get. Now we can put bedding in the window seat for when guests come. (We do need to paint the inside of the window seat, now that I see it in a photo :)).
I did order a bench seat for the window seat too, just hasn’t come in yet. I ordered THIS cushion that will fit perfectly. I highly recommend looking for cushions before building your window seat, you might be able to find a cushion that is ready-made that works! (You can find more cushion sources HERE)
Excited to put a Christmas Tree in here! (You can see our new hanging chair we added to this room HERE).

Love, love, love it!! So much!! ❤️
