New Rug in our Living Room and Cordless Bamboo Shades!
Alright. Alright, I did it. I totally changed the rug in our living room. If you follow me on Instagram there were signs it was coming. I saw a picture from our family room last year and I just loved it. I love a neutral rug in our living room. I just DO!!!! It is calming to me. Calm in the busy that our front room can be. We have amazing built-in bookcases, that I adore and really sold me on this little cape. But like any bookcase they can feel busy. So having something simple to ground it all just feels so right to me. I did love the rug we had in here. But the pink was starting to feel… ... Read More
Fireplace Reveal- Our Electric Brick Fireplace
Last Monday I shared that we were going to add an electric fireplace to our small front room. I kept saying "I hope it works out"! And folks, it totally worked out! I had big dreams of having a fireplace. A painted white brick fireplace to be exact. And seeing as our home was built in the 1950's it just felt like a fireplace was supposed to be in this 1100 square foot home of ours. Are you ready to see how it looks? Today I will share the full reveal, how much the total price was for us to add this electric fireplace, how long it took and the why behind the choices we made. Painted Brick ... Read More
Fall Front Porch- Pink Door Stays!
Favorite thing to decorate for Fall! The front porch! So excited to share this with you today. And I just realized that this is the first holiday I get to decorate the front of the house with our new white shake shingle siding! It feels so fresh and more personal to our family. You know when you move into an existing home and it smells different, there are weird noises and doesn't feel quite like you? Well, now almost 3 1/2 years later we have put our stamp on about everything in this little 1950's cape. And just a reminder it takes TIME! Making a home doesn't happen overnight. And making a ... Our Free Little Library
Kevin built me a Little Free Library! I have been saying for sometime now that I want to build a Little Free Library to put in front of our house to share books with the community. If you haven't heard of Little Free Libraries before it is a neighborhood book exchange where anyone is encouraged to take a book or leave a book! The first Little Free Library was built in 2009 and now there are over 75,000 Little Free Libraries out there in the world! Anyone can build a Little Free Library (more on that at the end) or you can buy one already made or a kit. There is even a Facebook group for Little ... Read More
FALL Tour- Bookcase Styling and Color Blocking
I tried something new in our front room. With the change of the seasons I got that "change" part down! Seasonal decor can just mean moving things around and for Fall my favorite thing to do is mix in some real pumpkins. I love the natural look of real pumpkins and the fact that I don't have to find a place to store them when the season is over. I re-styled our bookcases and tried color blocking! Basically it's grouping similar colors next to each other. I really love how it turned out. There are a lot more accessories in the bookcase than was before, but fun for a little change. Speaking of ... Read More
Our Utah Home Tour plus Downsizing and Moving Tips
We have lived in Connecticut for almost four years! Utah was where we lived before the home you see so much of now on the blog. I thought it would be fun to share our Utah home with you. I stopped by our old home last night to take a picture of the exterior. This home was close to three times the size of our Connecticut home, 3200 square feet. Thankfully I did have some interior photos to share with you. Along with the home tour I have some Moving and Downsizing Tips for you- what I wish we would have read before we moved. There is more to the story of stopping by to ... Read More
Five Must-Do’s to your Home for Summer!
Do you make seasonal changes to your home? Making seasonal changes does not mean bringing up a tote from the basement of seasonal decor. It actually could mean the opposite, especially in the summer. Taking things away. For me it does. I put away all the heavy throw blankets and the fuzzy wool pillows (that I LOVE so much). Spring is still chilly for us in Connecticut, so the real changes come about June. I have heard of people removing rugs in the summer for a more drastic change. Besides putting away the heavy throws and wool pillows I move things around, just changing art from one nail ... Read More
Friday Favorites starts with New Rug
We finally did it. I hate to admit how many hours I probably spend scrolling thru different rug options. You know, the jute rug, the "throw-up rug" poor Finn got sick on it and I ruined it trying to clean it. I was just going to order the same rug again but Kevin informed me the jute rug wasn't his favorite (WHAT??) and wanted one with "more color". Honestly I really like that he said that. I think it't cute that he likes the color in our home and cares about his surroundings. He really liked the one we had in here originally (the navy one) but I didn't love the navy right off of the black ... Read More
Entrance to the Basement- Wallpaper in unexpected places
Our little 1950's cape does have an unfinished basement that won't ever be finished due to the fact that we live in a flood zone. Or if we add onto our home we would have to fill it in. We use the basement daily because it is also our laundry room, extra pantry, supply room, tool room, playroom (has a fuse-ball table) and more! It did not have a very welcoming entrance, leaving one of my kids afraid to go down there. I thought it would be a great place to add a fun wallpaper and of course a "Magic Light"! Basement Entrance BEFORE- It is funny how you live with something and ... Read More
