I tried something new in our front room. With the change of the seasons I got that “change” part down! Seasonal decor can just mean moving things around and for Fall my favorite thing to do is mix in some real pumpkins. I love the natural look of real pumpkins and the fact that I don’t have to find a place to store them when the season is over. I re-styled our bookcases and tried color blocking! Basically it’s grouping similar colors next to each other. I really love how it turned out. There are a lot more accessories in the bookcase than was before, but fun for a little change. Speaking of change we changed the window treatments in our front room too!
And I am joining up with Marty from A Stroll Thru Life and 30 other bloggers to share our homes for Fall! Last week I shared some simple changes we made in the kitchen and thought I would focus on our front room today. Make sure to check out all the other bloggers linked at the end of this post for some fall decor inspiration!
If you are new here, welcome! We are a family of five living in 1200 square foot cape in Connecticut. I worked in a design firm for 17 years in Utah before we made the big move to Connecticut about 3 1/2 years ago. That is when Nesting with Grace started. We are about 1/2 a mile to the beach and a little over an hour drive to NYC. My mission is to share how ANYONE can love their home no matter where, what or size it is and that there is value in putting in the effort into our homes.
Bookcase- Styled for Fall (my take on color blocking)
First of all thrilled that Whole Foods and our local grocery store had some heirloom pumpkins! Yes, I you better believe I squealed! These heirloom pumpkins are my absolute favorite thing to decorate with for fall and were just what I needed to finish off our bookcase.
What do you think? Does it look color blocked? What I did was take everything OUT and started fresh. I did leave the big basket with the Umbrella Plant and the green pot with the Kangaroo Plant because plants really don’t like to be moved….and I didn’t want to risk it. Really those two plants are my anchors in the bookcase.
I have blush, rust and pinks on the left. Then it blends into white, golds and greens. Yes, WAY more stuff than before. But to get that color impact I felt like it needed more. I still will play with it. You know my motto- “Done is better than perfect”. So I set a time limit and after that hour I was done. NO more messing with it for the day. Good to step away and even take a picture to see how it looks. I do notice a few things I will tweak. But happy with the playful fun fall look.
You can see my “magic lights” I added to the bookcase. It might bother some that you can see them sticking out- not me. Worth it to have that warm cozy glow and to highlight a few of the cubbies in the bookcase, especially for fall. Also THESE twinkle lights in a couple of the jars I am still loving.
I have always said every room needs a bit of black, like a face with some nice eyebrows 🙌🏻! Adds depth. I recently spray painted our floor lamp in a flat black spray paint and it really looks a lot better. And black is another hot color trend for fall that I am fully embracing.
We also changed the curtain rod to THIS one. I initially wanted black, but it is back-ordered. I thought I could spray paint it if I still wanted to do the black. I actually like the bronze with the floor lamp, nice balance and with the woven wood shades. Love THESE linen curtain panels too. Adds a layer of coziness. I can easily put back the white come Spring when I am ready to brighten up the room. Simple seasonal change.
Over on the piano I added a strand of twinkle lights mixed with THIS metal garland. I also like to keep a large plant for some height on the piano. I picked up that fiddle leaf fig at Ikea last time I went. (You can find plants online HERE). I put it inside THIS basket.
Really hoping and planning to do more of this for the fall season plus a lot of bike rides, farmers markets and baking of course.
Here is to enjoying the warm glow of inside, the reason why we put effort into our homes. To create a safe place to be.
Planning on keeping our front door pink for fall and winter! I love it way to much to change. Added THIS wreath for now and will be sharing our front porch in a week or so. (Door is Coral Perfection from Sherwin Williams).
You can see the few changes I made for the season change in our bedroom HERE that floral pillow was the main inspiration! Since oversized florals are big this fall!

😍 Your front door is beautiful! Ya know, I bought those same curtains when you mentioned them before and I’ve been too nervous to hang them thinking they’d be “too dark”. But now I see they’re amazing!!!!! I just love the whole feel your home puts off. So cozy!
Oh yay!! Yes, do it!! Thanks Clarissa!
I love your Color Blocked bookcases, they look so pretty and the warm touches you’ve added to your home for Fall. You always make your home look to inviting with all of your changes. Perfect look for Fall. Thanks so much for joining the tours, your home is always filled with tons of inspiration.
Brooke, I think you do an incredible job with your home. I really like how the curtains pull in the wallpaper. My home is my hobby and it’s so fun to see what everyone else does. I have finally learned to decorate for my hubby and I as we are long time empty nesters. You inspire so many with your love of family, your faith in God and your beautiful home. Thanks once again for sharing.
Your home is always the coziest and so pretty. I just want to come over and snuggle.
You have created such a cozy home. I love the throw pillow on your bed and the addition of twinkle lights is enchanting.
