We finally did it. I hate to admit how many hours I probably spend scrolling thru different rug options. You know, the jute rug, the “throw-up rug” poor Finn got sick on it and I ruined it trying to clean it. I was just going to order the same rug again but Kevin informed me the jute rug wasn’t his favorite (WHAT??) and wanted one with “more color”. Honestly I really like that he said that. I think it’t cute that he likes the color in our home and cares about his surroundings. He really liked the one we had in here originally (the navy one) but I didn’t love the navy right off of the black kitchen floor. So we compromised on one. And we are both happy with it!
As I said I was wasting time, actually I take that back, I don’t consider it wasting. It was studying! I am a walking rug reference now. You know how you see Ad’s on most blogs or sites you look at. Well THIS Moyer Indoor Pink Area Rug kept popping up across the top of my computer and every time I stopped and looked at it. Loving it and finally clicked on it. I found it on one website then I found it cheaper HERE! Done. Very affordable rug. We also went up to a 7×9 instead of a 6×9 because the next size was a 5×8 and that would have been too small. I really like the bigger 7×9, it makes the room feel larger!
Find tips on how to pick the right size rug for your room HERE.
I was resisting doing too much pink but Kevin had picked out a couple of pink rugs too. And why would I resist pink? I really don’t have as much pink as I was thinking I did (just piano, accent pillows and vase).
I really liked the touch of khaki in the rug too to tie in our khaki swivel chairs. (You can find sources for everything in this room HERE).
I personally wasn’t ready to ditch the jute rug completely. It is a favorite of mine. I ordered it in a 3×5 to put by our front door and I love it there! (Find it HERE on sale). You can see the rugs I was looking at HERE and the tips I got on how to clean a Jute Rug!
Other Favorites from the week-
- We are close to finishing up our exterior! Can’t wait to share it. We are on the fence about adding shutters. I just love the idea of not being locked into a color. We could paint our door any color and not have to change out the shutters! Also if we do add shutters I want them to be the kind that would be able to cover the entire window. So I am looking into that. (A reader sent me THIS photo below, no shutters but major charm!).
- I haven’t told Kevin this….but he did bring it up a little bit ago. I want to paint our playhouse/swing set….thinking the same gray as the deck (or a gray stain) or white?? Thoughts? Below is what white would look like with our green slide from @kristenkrason
- Ordered my favorite flat iron again on sale HERE. My original one was stolen out of my luggage at the airport. So I just got a replacement off brand and should have just got my favorite again. Lesson learned, it just didn’t work the same!
- Target still has their Outdoor Sale. I couldn’t resist buying one of THESE poufs to put under our outdoor coffee table for extra seating. They still have a lot of Outdoor Items on Sale that I featured on THIS blog post!
- A favorite Nester Share– @sunnycirclestudio did my Magic Light Trick! She used THESE lights and it looks so great. Sharing more of my favorites over on Instagram too!
Last night I went LIVE over in our Facebook Group! We spent an hour answering your design questions about outdoors! If you are wanting some design advice for FREE and to connect with others who are interested in all the things I share here then make sure to join! Information HERE.
Have a wonderful weekend and Mothers Day!

LOVE the rug!!! It’s absolutely PERFECT. Not one I would have considered, but when I see it in your space it just ties everything together. Nice Job 🙂

Love the rug! And the white playset is so amazing!
On the FB live you did last night, you mentioned you spray painted your current (or not so current) shutters … Just wondering how that has held up and if there is a specific spray paint to use. Or what the advantage is to that vs. painting? I am gearing up to paint my shutters a dark gray with a mint/turquoise door and have been on the fence as to the best paint to choose. Was hoping you could share some expertise?

Hi Jess! Yes we used Rustoleum spray paint- we actually used that when we went from the green that was on the house to the navy. It held up great! I suggest getting that little attachment so you don’t burn out your finger!!

And I would add that we ended up just buying black ones because they had them in black and that was faster! We spray painted the blue because we couldn’t find the blue we liked exactly and we were trying to use what we had

Really like the rug! Your room looks so pulled together, I think you needed the color in there. I agree with Kevin!

Gorgeous rug!! Perfect for the space :).
If you want shutters for the front of your house, why not black? Classic look for your house and any color for the front door would work.
Happy Mother’s Day 💐

That rug looks AWESOME. Artistic flair! So tasteful! And the white shutter-less house the other reader submitted is DI-VINE.
Happy Mother’s Day Brooke!

I like your pink rug. It’s definitely not girly. Pulls everything together. I like it much better than the jute.

Here is my two cents. You have to stop apologizing for who you are. Easy for me to say since I have been avoiding blogging my design stuff due to probably that very reason. You have great talent – some people will agree and some people won’t. The people that won’t aren’t really worth your time. If I really didn’t like something, why would I take the time to comment that and make someone feel bad- makes no sense to me. Anyway. I noticed you keep apologizing- something all we women tend to do- can you tell I’m reading “The Confidences Code”. Men never apologize for their ideas – they take ownership- not knowing or caring if they are right or wrong. 😀 You keep rocking it!

Thanks Samantha! I didn’t think I was apologizing…..I must be putting that off unintentionally. And I agree my style is not for everyone and I am totally fine with that. I too love looking at blogs and other peoples work even if I wouldn’t select it for my own. I just like to share how I came to my decision in order to possibly help others out.
Sounds like a great book!

I love your new rug! You are so brave! When my boys were little it was always navy or dark rugs! The light rug with the pink is very refreshing! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Lori! We don’t eat in here and the kids take their shoes off when they come in….so hopefully it will stay pretty clean!

Love it! And I think I’m switching to the no shutters team…or maybe not, I’m not sure how you’re going to choose.
We have a white play set and the biggest issue I have is how quickly it gets dirty. Before parties or BBQ’s you can find me spraying it down and the climbing all over it to wipe it down. Just something to consider. 🙂

Thanks for that perspective on keeping it clean!! And it is hard to decide…..but I am thinking I like it with no shutters!
Laurie says
Love the rug! What color are your arm/accent chairs?
[email protected] says
Thanks! They are kind of like a khaki with a green hint to them

Love the rug! Can you comment on the softness of the rug? I’m wondering if it would be good for my baby to crawl around on. Thanks!

Thanks! YES! IT is soft 🙂
