Last week I shared a few changes I made to our front room for Spring. Nothing big, just taking away heavy blankets and pillows and adding some flowering plants. Today I wanted to share our kitchen and the little things I changed. Really, when do we stop changing things? For me it is part of tidying up! After dinner dishes are cleaned up, the rearranging starts. It could be putting some fresh clippings in a vase or changing pillows around. It makes the chores and everyday living fun! The other night I had a somewhat tidy house so I took a video of our entire 1100 square foot house showing the Spring changes and flow in our tiny cape in Connecticut.
This week I am joining Marty, A Stroll Thru Life for her amazing line-up for a Spring Home Tour, make sure to check out the other bloggers at the end of this post. If you came from 11 Magnolia Lane welcome! Christy added great Spring and Easter touches. I am very excited to have you here checking out our Spring Home.
Quickest way to change your home with the seasons? Real flowers, plants and branches. Whole Foods has a great variety right now and so does Trader Joe’s. I picked up a bundle of Cherry Blossoms and love them split up into my collection of white pitchers. Better yet if you can clip some Magnolia branches or greens from outside. Unfortunately in Connecticut around our home nothing is really ready to be clipped right now.
I am enjoying bringing in some more green accents into our home this Spring. I always love the pops of pink, but shades of green really coordinate well with most any style and colors.
I have had my eye on THIS Fresh Bay Leaf Wreath. Finally ordered it and got it- love it having on our chalkboard. It is just the right size to not compete with our round chandelier.
Yes- I was thinking of painting our back door, again! We painted it in Cushing Green from Benjamin Moore in the Fall. I really still love it since it has the fresh Spring feel. Maybe in the Summer or Fall I will think of a fun new color. I moved the black and white pillows from upstairs to our kitchen and like them back here!
THIS Chives Dishtowel is another easy way to make your home feel Springy and remind you have summer coming.
Not too many changes, besides bringing out my mini pink bowls again for Spring and Summer to the kitchen shelves. I am drawn to the colors of Spring more than other other season of colors. Always have been!
We are ready to have the back door open enjoying the breeze and the sounds of kids playing happily outside!! And cannot wait for our daily bike rides. And secretly excited to get the outside windows clean- one of my favorite ways to Spring clean. Spring really is the greatest.

Take a Video Tour of our 1100 Square Foot Cape
I hope you enjoyed the video tour of our home! I actually have been wanting to do a video tour because I get asked often what the layout of our house is or for a floor plan. And that is not available for home built in 1950. I was hesitant to share the video because I am very much an amateur at video. But I realized that my readers don’t care about that- done is better than perfect!

Hi Brooke! I just started following your blog–love! I grew up in an 800 sq ft single level house in Southern California. It was three bedrooms and one bathroom with a big backyard–I thought it was huge! I loved your video and your sweet voice and it was fun to follow you around and get the whole picture! Did you DIY the built-ins in your living room? I’m thinking I have a spot where I could do something like that which would sure help me with storage!
Blessings!

Every time I see your home either on the blog or instagram I just can’t believe it is 1100sqft! It seems so much bigger! Is the bonus upstairs included in the 1100 Sqft? We don’t live in a huge home but for cleaning and everyday living I prefer to be in a smaller home. We host our college group for church in our house and that is the only time I wish we had a big living room. The best thing is we all cram in and enjoy and I love it! 🙂 Thanks for all your design inspiration and your joy in your family and creating a home to enjoy.

Cherry blossoms are my favorite in spring. I love yours! And the pops of pink are a favorite too especially with the gray and black you have. All heart eyes again over here. 😍 The video was a very nice bonus too. Thank you!

Oh what fun that was!
You did a great job with the video.
Thank you for the tour of your lovely sweet home. I just love seeing the inside of well loved homes.
Sometimes I will get an idea for my home or even a new idea to pass on to my daughter or daughters in law. They are under the illusion momma knows everything and can fix, decorate, change and manage it all. Truth is, I can because I have help from all the bloggers friends I have.
Anyway I thank you have done an amazing job, every room feels cozy and welcoming. Simply home. I love it.
Blessings to you!

Look forward to reading your blog and LOVED your video tour. Your home is one of my very favorites. All the little details just make it so pretty and inviting. It’s hard to say what room is my favorite! I noticed a beautiful lantern on the wall at the top of your stairs. Would you happen to recall where you bought it? Thanks again for all your great ideas and for sharing your home.
[email protected] says
Thank you! I have had that lantern for years and years! It was from Park Hill. I don’t see it anymore 🙁

So beautiful! Every room is so inviting!
I’ve been reading your blog for several months and have stolen a ton of ideas. Can’t get enough!
Have you done a tutorial on wallpapering a textured ceiling? ALL of the rooms in my home have textured ceilings; I would really appreciate a cheap(er) solution than replacing them.

when i come to visit your home, i never want to leave. it is so charming regardless of the size.

Hi! I am a fellow New Englander… and huge fan of yours! I really love your style – and loved the video tour! I always get lots of inspiration from you. I am wondering… Where did you get the chunky black picture frames that line your stairs and can you tell me where the gray, paned glass cabinet in your upstairs TV room is from? Thank you so much!
Have a great day!
Best,
Lisa
[email protected] says
Thanks Lisa! The chunky frames are old- from Creative Coop. I don’t see them online anymore. And the bookcase is from Bramble Co. I don’t see those online either 🙁 sorry!! I have had both for over 10 years now
Cathy Weber says
I loved our video, your home is so beautiful. I heard you say temporary wallpaper several times and I wonder if you meant that you plan to change it to something else or it is some special kind of wallpaper easier to remove than regular wallpaper. I remember scraping wallpaper and it was so hard! Also, how in the world did you do wallpaper on the ceilings? It must have been so hard to do!
[email protected] says
yes! It is peel and stick, easy to take right off with no damage to the walls. And yes the wallpaper was harder on the ceiling- but easier when you have a strong, tall and willing husband to help!
Tammy says
I always love your beautiful, inviting home. The fresh greenery and pops of pink are perfect for spring!
Laura @ Inspiration for Moms says

Beautiful space! I love your mix of rustic and refined – cozy and classy at the same time! I’ve never considered a bay leaf wreath before but might check it out. I imagine it smells amazing!
Donna says
I had a bay leaf wreath in a 100 year old cottage bedroom for many years. The bedroom formerly smelled musty and dry and after I put in the bay leaf wreath the odor was lovely. I never regretted my decision. .

Thank you so much for sharing your home. I am contemplating the remodeling of a open floor plan of a 750 sq, ft. former art studio into a small home for my husband and myself ( and selling the big house.) I have just not been sure we could live in this tiny space after living in 1,800 sq. ft with two bedrooms and two baths (plus a large three season room) for the past 20 years. But after seeing how you have maximized your small space AND seeing how a family is living here, I am encouraged. When you count your Sq. Ft. space does it also include the second floor spacer? In addition to the first floor space we also have a large (unfinished/unheated) storage attic in my 950 s.q ft. building and I do not think that that attic space is included in the 750 sq. ft. amount. We also have an open porch that I would like to see screened in for summer use. The details that I see in your house that might work for us include the built in bookcase wall that includes the window seat, the dining booth area and the sliding barn doors. I am thinking of turning the attic into part storage ( as we have no closets) and part den/family room area so my husband would have a place to retreat to at night after I have gone to bed. Thank you so much for sharing!! You have given me some good ideas and some possible hope that I might be able to make this work. Blessings!!
[email protected] says
Oh exciting Donna! I am not sure if that is included in the square footage, I don’t think it is because we have a basement that is unfinished and that is not included in the square feet either!
