Statement Serving Pieces in our Curio Cabinet and Biscoff Cookie Cake

It feels good to clear everything out of a cabinet, sideboard or anywhere that you want to restyle and start fresh! We have a glass curio cabinet in our dining room that is one of my favorite pieces to style, because it can hold a lot of items and I like that the backdrop is white so everything pops. When styling any area of my home I decorate with items that we actually use, so I try to buy the cutest version of an item. In an office I buy the flower handle scissors so they can double as decor. In dining rooms we use cloth napkins rather than paper, so those cloth napkins match our decor and look cute stacked in the curio cabinet. Let’s see what else I use to style my cabinet!

Whenever I style a cabinet or bookcase I like to repeat similar things throughout the piece. From similar colors, textures and patterns. In this glass cabinet I repeated the Courtly Check serving pieces. My girls kept commenting how much they love the checkered pattern in here. I agree, it is so fun, yet timeless.

Also a lamp, and battery taper candles in glass candlesticks add the prettiest glow to any cabinet.

Add height by leaning taller serving pieces as a backdrop, it also creates little vignettes throughout your cabinet. This oval Courtly Check, adds height and grouped with pieces I had, like the pear jar add a pop of gold that is in our dining room.

Art as a backdrop adds in another dimension and color. I like mixing vintage with new pieces to create a collected unique look. I used my parents china from their wedding. Stacking of plates adds height and created a pedestal for the Courtly Check bowl.

Notice how the colors in the cabinet are repeated in the rest of the dining room? Key to unifying the space.

My sister made this Biscoff Cookie Cake for my moms birthday a couple weeks ago and everybody agreed that it was one of the best cakes we’ve had! My younger sister even said it was what she wanted for her wedding cake! It was really good! Ella had been asking for the recipe so my sister offered to show her how to make it. Perfect timing to get displayed on this cute checkered cake stand!

Ella did such a good job! I’m confident she could for sure make this on her own, she had just finished frosting around the cake when she had to leave for soccer. My sister gave me a few pointers and I finished up. I used a 1M star tip. Then, while squeezing the piping bag, made a circle pattern slowly going higher, then I stopped squeezing to finish it off and pull tip away. I stuck a Biscoff cookie in the top of my swirls and stood back pretty happy with how it looked. First timer and all!

We used this recipe for the cake and filling but we are obsessed with our Best White Frosting recipe. We used vanilla extract instead of almond. It’s a soft fluffy frosting we know and love. The cake itself is rich and flavorful, so we like how this frosting isn’t too intense to finish it off.

Those middle layers are where its at! A cookie butter filling with a layer of crumbled Biscoff cookies on top. And then repeated again for next layer! *chefs kiss*
