I love Valentines. Maybe it is the fact that I can add more pink to my house. Or that I love sending Valentine Day cards, who doesn’t want to get a little note of love? When I used to work in a design store, on Valentines we would do a cookie exchange and then everyone got to take home a plate of different cookies with the recipe. We would have the warehouse guys judge them of coarse, we needed a winner. I can remember my Dad bringing me in a little valentines day treat and balloon for a couple of years to my work or on other occasions they dropped off a pie on our front door. It was so thoughtful of them. Valentines is just another great opportunity to show people you care about them and a little sweet doesn’t hurt.
Decorating a little for the Holidays is not only for my kids who appreciate it but it is a fun way for me to get a little creative. I really only added a few valentine touches to this space. It isn’t a lot and when you break it down it is pieces that I already had with the exception to the XOXO pillow, but I think I will keep that out all year! I moved THIS pink throw that I had in another room and my favorite antique pink chair. You can even use some of the red things you had out for Christmas. Get creative and use what you have, just combine it to one space to make an impact and have it feel different.
I made the little heart on the chalk board with washi tape. I am not an artist and whenever I try to write or draw on chalkboards I end up hating it so this was something that I knew I could literally tape together and be happy with it.
I found these little heart dollies last year in the Target dollar section and just strung them up with some red and white twine, easy garland. I was so excited when we got our Valentine Day cards from Minted that I clipped one on the garland. If you have been following me you know that we have all of our family in Utah and a lot of our best friends. I wanted to create a card to send to everyone to show our love and that we are thinking of them. I used pictures from our recent trip to Hawaii.
At my daughters school they are pretty strict about food and allergies, which I totally support, I am happy when kids aren’t rewarded and celebrate with food. So we decided to have some nice valentine cards made from Minted. Lola picked the Tic-Tac-Toe and we are going to attach erasers to the card to use in the game. They haven’t come yet but you can buy bulk erasers HERE.
For my 2nd grader, Ella she is really into word searches and does well at them. I knew that she would pick the Valentine Word Search from Minted’s Class Room Valentines. We are going to attach a valentine pencil to the card you can find those HERE.
The girls have already started working on addressing their cards, working down the list that their organized teachers sent home.
Another thing I do for Valentines is a little countdown. I used these same bags in our Christmas Countdown HERE. My husband travels a lot in the month of February so I wanted to set up a fun way for the girls to stay connected to him and little notes from him will mean the world to them.
They will just have little notes of love in each bag, maybe some silly love poems. But no candy or treats, just words of affection.
Last thing that I have to share is our “heart rocks.” My good friend Denise, who is incredibly thoughtful gave me my first heart rock years ago and told me that she collects them. When we were in Hawaii we noticed that there are not sea shells to collect on the beach. But there are a lot of rocks and pieces of broken coral. I told me girls to collect heart rocks, little love notes from God. We came home with three new heart rocks to display for valentines. I keep them in a glass box all year long.
I truly love and appreciate all of my readers I have partnered with Minted to give away THREE $50 gift cards to get your own Class Room Valentines!
