Whimsical Christmas in our Entry 2024 with Paper Chain Garland

I was excited to add Christmas decor to our front entry after hanging striped wallpaper above the stairs! I had a certain look I was going for this year, it helped that I had some photo inspiration to know I wanted an overall whimsical Christmas vibe this year! Excited to show you a super easy DIY I made to help achieve the look! Always starting with my favorite faux cedar garland as the base.

I love to go back through photos I saved this time last year from our travels, visiting others homes, shopping, Pinterest or Social Media. I found this photo from Lisa Przystup and it reminded me how much I loved a paper chain!

I decided to do a paper chain with leftover wallpaper I had from rooms in our home. If you missed it we just wallpapered our entry, so I wanted to tie that into the garland. Also wrapping paper, old picture books or even Christmas sheet music would be so cute too for a paper chain garland.

I wanted my paper chain pieces to be double sided, so one side wouldn’t be plain. I just fold the wallpaper in half and use double sided tape (this tape made the project quick) to adhere to one another then cut my strip. I did 2″ strips and about 8″ length. I used double sided tape to attach both ends together also. Just like the paper chains you made in elementary school! So easy.

Here is how it turned out! For the base I fluffed and intertwined 2 of my favorite 15′ faux cedar garlands (our railing is 6′ long for reference). I attached them to the railing with a ribbon I had. Then hung two of these large star lights, which sold out, I shared more star light options HERE.

I had found these paper snowflakes and added to the garland or these paper snowflakes are a great price, or you can make your own!

I picked colors that coordinate with my house, it really could stay up all year and I would be so happy!

You can see the garland reflect off the entry mirror so I wanted to hang my garland higher so it wasn’t too busy. I twisted a few hooks to the ceiling and I just looped my garland through. I also used the 9′ faux cedar garlands. Then added a paper chain to the garland.

I placed these smaller star lights in a marble ruffled bowl.

I love the glow I get from my cute new velvet lamps, star lights, diffuser (with Evergreen Essence on repeat!) and large lights on the railing.
