We just came home from a long family vacation. We left as soon as summer had started so when we got home I was ready to change up bedding and do some other things for the season change. I’ll take you along! Sharing 10 ways to refresh your bedroom and love your space!

(Bedding is all linked below // Furniture & Walls Etc HERE)
1- Open Windows For Fresh Air
Opening our windows for short periods of time each day can improve the scent and mood in our homes! Bye to the stuffy smell!
“Homes contains millions of dust particles, germs, and pathogens. But by opening your windows and increasing ventilation, you’ll significantly improve your indoor air quality.“

2- Rotate Your Mattress
Rotate your mattress! This helps keep it from getting lumps and bumps or sagging. You really only have to do this once or twice a year. PS- find our mattresses HERE.

3- Mattress Refresher
To make the Mattress Refresh: In a Shaker Jar add Baking Soda with 20-40 drops of essential oils of choice! We love anything with lemon, lavender to support sleep or purification to purify the air. Just sprinkle on mattress, let sit for like an hour or whatever you have time for, then vacuum up! The mattress cleaner, just scrub on areas that need cleaning.

I LOVE this vacuum with the mini vacuum head attachment!! Perfect for this type of task.

4- Air Out Your Down Bedding Inserts or Fluff in Dryer
Hang duvet, pillows, mattress toppers outside for several hours to clear out any odors or staleness. Most of our beds are used nighty and we wash often, I don’t notice that they ever seem to need it. But I do have a couple guests rooms that I thought a good shake out and fresh air could do the bedding some good. We have a setting on our dryer that is “antibacterial” that I use to refresh our inserts.
*Washing your duvet and comforters too frequently can cause extra wear and damage. Bleach, dryer sheets, fabric softener, and other laundry additives may cause the fill to clump. Fill may develop an odor or mildew if not FULLY dried.

5- Wash Bedding
Give sheets a nice washing! In addition to laundry soap, we love to add our scent booster in the drum of the washing machine. Laundry Boost does exactly that..boosts your laundry cleaning! Softens, helps with odor and can help keeps whites looking good.

Laundry Scent Boost Recipe-
- Epsom Salt or Sea Salt- 1 1/2 C
- Baking Soda- 1/2 C
- Essential Oils – 20-30 drops
- Combine all the ingredients well. Let sit to air dry a bit and then transfer into a glass jar with lid. THAT’S IT!!! Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup into your wash. Right into the drum with the clothes.
“Down and feather bedding should only require cleaning every few years if properly protected and kept in a clean environment. If your down and feather bedding requires cleaning, check the care instructions with the manufacturer. While synthetic bedding can be washed at home in a large machine on low heat, down and feather bedding should be dry cleaned or washed at a professional cleaner who has experience cleaning down and feather products.” From the company store

6- Replace Old Bedding
Look for signs of wear include pilling, thinning, tearing, fading or discoloration, or diminished softness.

Sheets– The highest quality sheets from durable cotton, linen, or a blend of natural materials may last 3-5 years or more with proper care. Lower-quality options made from microfiber or polyester blends should be replaced after 2-3 years.

Duvets and comforter’s-The best down inserts can last up to twenty years, while down alternative comforters have a shorter life expectancy—about five to ten years. This Duvet is awesome because you can unsnap a layer if too hot in the warmer months. A quality duvet can be cooling too! We use a duvet in the summer also because it doesn’t get hot. I just got these cute duvet cover! And then I just layer a quilt on the bottom of the bed we can use or remove.

Pillows-Sleep and health experts recommend replacing pillows every one to two years. Beyond that, pillows may become less supportive and could harbor bacteria and allergens that can’t be fully washed away. Properly washing pillows helps remove allergens and irritants, but if they develop a musty smell or the fill remains lumpy even after fluffing, it’s likely time to buy new pillows. We have THESE Sleeping Pillows, my favorite pillow to sleep on! I love that it is toxic-free, green guard certified. Also that you can easily adjust it to fit how you like to sleep.

- Mattress Pad Cooling– this mattress protector is also cooling and has a fiber fill for gentle cushion.
- Mattress Protector – this mattress pad is waterproof! “Ultra-thin waterproof barrier sits between two layers of soft cotton jersey ensuring a quiet and restful sleep while repelling liquids and stains”
- Mattress– we have all Green Guard Certified mattresses, read all about them here!
- 2″ Mattress Pad– I like this mattress pad as an option if you don’t love your mattress and don’t want to buy a new mattress. 2-inch mattress pad designed to add a little extra comfort to help relief pressure points like hips and shoulders.
- Duvet Insert- Extra Warmth– this is my favorite insert!!! Nothing else can make your bed as full and fluffy! I love that it is organic too.
- Decorative Sham Insert- Firm– this sham looks best for the decorative pillows you want extra full
- Decorative Euro Insert- Firm– only insert I use for euro shams, I go with the firm.
- Sleeping Pillow Adjustable– my favorite pillow to sleep on! I love that it is toxic-free, green guard certified. Also that you can easily adjust it to fit how you like to sleep.
- Sleeping Pillow Foam– My kids like this one because of the height and not to firm or too soft feel. Also green-guard certified.

7- Clean out under the bed and drawers
Well worth a check and clean under the bed every so often to keep it and our tempers under control. Also under the bed is a great place to store things! I linked some of my favorite under the bed storage boxes HERE.

8- Add a plant
The fun part! Adding a plant really does make the whole room look better! Studies show they also boost moods, increase creativity, reduce stress and eliminates air pollutants. Healthier and happier room! Get all my plant tips HERE.

9- Make a Spring Room Spray
I love a room spray in every room. It can eliminate odors quick, create a relaxing atmosphere, add a personal touch to the space, and enhance mood! Because the recipe I use is made with natural ingredients to ensure it is safe, ours double as a linen spray too! So cozy to spray on linens before bed!
Sleepy Linen Spray
Supplies and Instructions
- 4 oz spray bottle
- 10 drops cedarwood
- 10 drops lavender
- 10 drops stress away
- 1 tablespoon witch hazel
- Top with distilled water
- Shake every time before using

10- Evaluate what you want to add
I like to keep a list of things I want to add to parts of our home. That way I can look for the best price and keep my eye out if I’m thrifting! One thing I did want to add was two pop up beds for when we have extra guests! We just got these and I tested them out myself, they were very comfortable, we took to an Airbnb on a girls trip for more beds!
