This post idea came after I shared the blog post “10 Things You Can Do Without!” Someone asked me what are 10 things that you might not really need but think people should have. How fun is that? Both are fun, but if you like to shop you might like this blog post a little more! Ha! These are all items that I personally own and a lot of them I have shared about before and were big hits so I thought they needed to be included on this list.
12 Things You Might Want, but don’t NEED-
First I asked all of YOU what is something you want but might not need-
- Robot or Rumba Vacuum (I don’t own this) but TONS of you said this!!!
- Apple Watch (I don’t own this either- I have a Fitbit and feel like it dos the same thing.)
- Steamer (I did have a cordless steamer, it is great, but really hardly used it so I got rid of it)
- Microblading– I DO have this and it is now a need! I wish I did it sooner. My face just looks better! haha
- Nanny– I would really like this and maybe actually really need it (haha)
- Cleaning Service– I DO have this. I have been paying my friend from church who started her own business. Honestly best money I have spent. Helps me focus on things I should be doing, since I work from home. And even if you don’t work from home, sometimes it is just good to have someone clean your home who really knows what they are doing!!
- Camper– I actually would only go camping now, with kids, if we had a camper. So I can see how this is a need for some! But also maybe not worth the investment for how often you would be able to go.
Here is my list of wants not needs-
1- Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner-
I personally think this is a need!! But I guess you can always hire an upholstery cleaner or a carpet cleaner and pay one time what you would pay for your own personal carpet and upholstery cleaner! I seriously have gotten my money out of this thing! I use it every other week I would say. I have gotten ketchup out of our cushions and chocolate milk out of the rugs. And one of the only ways I can have light cushions around our dining table! (Find it HERE I like to use a cap of my Thieves Cleaner in it or THIS).
2- Sweater Shaver
You can use this sweater shaver to save that sweater that has formed tiny balls all over it, which is actually called “pilling” and also your sofa! I used to work in a design store and often we would get called on people frustrated with the fabric on their sofa, because it was “pilling”. That is actually a normal thing to have happen. It happens with certain types of material- such as wool, cotton, polyester, nylon and acrylic have a tendency to pill the most. It will look like new after using this tool. I think every home should have one of these. (Find it HERE).
3- Watering Can
Do you think that you can just water your plants with a cup? Wrong. Just kidding. You totally can. But a watering can helps to control how the water is dispersed. You can evenly get water all over the soil, creating even watering. This also helps so you don’t over-water! BONUS- get a cute watering can and it doubles as decor. I used it in my friends room on her shelf as decor! (Find mine HERE).
4- Instant Pot
I thought everyone and their dog owned one of these! Until I was at book club the other night and my friend said she saw me share h0w we put frozen chicken in our Instant Pot and it was cooked and ready to eat in less than 30 minutes! Are you ever in a hurry to make dinner and only have frozen chicken? Pop it in your instant pot and it will be done in less than 15 minutes!! Or cook your spaghetti squash in 10 minutes verses an hour in the oven. (Find our 8 quart Instant Pot HERE).
5- Air Fryer
An air fryer will cook your food fast and without any oil! I use mine for sweet potato fries, pot stickers, crispy brussel sprouts, salmon and more! I also re-heat food in the air fryer! I am going to be doing a blog post soon with recipes and ideas! (Find our Air Fryer HERE).
6- Alexa
I am a big Alexa fan because it has so many uses. You might not “need” it if you already have a speaker system, but other than that, I could see most of us “needing” it. (See everything you can use Alexa for HERE).
7- Two in one- Blow Dryer with Round Brush
I only bought this because so many of you suggested it. It is for those of us who have a lot of hair and might get injured round brushing your hair for an hour while holding the blow dryer too. Or this is for someone with thin hair too, it will add a lot of volume if you aren’t used to round brushing. (Find it HERE).
8- Face Cleaning Brush or PMD
Having your own facial cleansing brush is like having your own personal spa! I have the Vanity Planet facial cleansing kit- nothing gets my face as clean as a scrubbing brush! OR a Clarisonic a lot of you said you want too! (Find the Vanity Planet one HERE and PMD HERE and the PMD Cleaning Brush HERE).
10- Weighted Blanket or Cooling Blanket
I have chatted about a weighted blanket before. It is not a *need* but for sure a want! Ella has loved her weighted blanket and I finally got my own and am obsessed with it!! If you sleep hot then you might want the cooling blanket! (You can use coupon code NG40 for 40% off on the cooling blanket HERE.)
11. Cordless Vacuum
We own the Dyson V10 and I really like it for a lot of reasons. #1 it is cordless! #2 we can hang it on the wall to our basement, since we really have no other spot for a standing vacuum. It really does suction well! But we have had issues with it not working. I do think it is user error. You are supposed to clean out the filter and we really don’t do that after every time. So I would suggest if you buy it getting it somewhere that you can easily exchange it. (Find it HERE).
12. Vitamix
Ok, a basic blender can kind-of do the job. But I am basically a smoothie snob. If it is not the right consistency I won’t touch it. I will start over. Or if the ice isn’t broken up enough, it goes back in. But with a Vitamix you really can’t go wrong. if you make smoothies daily then this might be a need (if your budget allows). Find it HERE.
One thing I want but don’t need is an electric hand mixer! I have a standing mixer and I have a regular whisk so it’s not a need.
I feel you on this! I had an electric one and I got rid of it because I didn’t *need* it!
I would love an air fryer and a Vitamix! My question…I live in an apartment with limited counter space and storage for big items. Where do you store these when not in use?
I have storage in my kithcen banquette! So that is where the air fryer goes! I can put the vitamix above my stove, since I use it the most.
I had a cleaning lady for awhile, but stopped for reasons I don’t really remember. I called her recently, but now she’s too busy with a new grandchild. I certainly miss her. Like you Brooke, my home is small, so it doesn’t take all that long to do the cleaning compared to a much larger home, but having someone who knows what they are doing can’t be beat.
Hi! Thanks for sharing all of this. Quick question for you… Do you like the size of your air fryer? I think it was 5.8 quarts. Is that good for your size family? Do you find that you have to do multiple batches of things? I’m really wanting to get one but I want to make sure that the size is practical with how much food I have to make for a family of five. Thanks! .
I do like the size! We can fit like 6 stuffed peppers in it! I don’t ever find myself wishing it was bigger.
What’s number 9?!
Omg! Attention to detail! I never even noticed that. But yes now I, too, want to know what #9 is.
At first it seems like it is difficult to decide between a want and a need, but then I think about it and realize I really could do without a lot of things. At one time we had a 41 foot sailboat and talked about what it would be like to live on a sailboat full time. That really makes you think about what you could live without…which is just about everything. In real life, I love having cleaning help! (and a lot of other things)!
Hi! Has your coupon code for the cooling blanket changed? I tried the code, and it wasn’t recognized. Thanks!
Nespresso milk frother – add foamed milk to your coffee for instant lattes! We bought one after coming back from Italy (and having lattes EVERY day there.) Now my hubby brings me a latte every morning with a sprinkle of cocoa on top when I’m doing devotional readings with my oldest daughters in bed. (He’s a sweetie! ;)) I got mine at Williams Sonoma (with a discount when I signed up on their email list.) We’ve used in daily for 3 years – so wonderful!
For the air fryer is it safe to cook on Teflon?
