We are back at my best friend, Laila’s house! Doing a one day bathroom makeover in their powder bathroom. We really wanted to test peel and stick tile over her current tile to see how it would work. We had used peel and stick tile over my parent’s linoleum and it has held up great! Laila and her family moved into this home about two years ago, and it was built about 17 years ago, she would like to remodel all the bathrooms, so we thought we would tackle the smallest bathroom that is used by guests.
Started with a Plan-
Floral Forest Wallpaper // 3-Light Vanity Light // Wall Shelf // Oval Mirror // Vanity
// Faucet // Toilet // Grey & White Marble Peel and Stick Tile
Powder Bathroom Before-
Laila had painted the existing beadboard green, and it looked great! But then we painted the area right outside the bathroom, the mudroom another shade of green to match the existing cabinets. The two greens clashed and we wanted to repaint the beadboard. Also to try the peel and stick tile over the current tile. We didn’t have days to replace the tile, we had one day to do it all.
Powder Bathroom After-
And the after!!! We kept saying how it feels bigger in here, I think adding the wallpaper over the beadboard made it feel taller too.
Wallpaper-
Outside the bathroom is plaid black and white wallpaper, I knew as we look into the bathroom you can see the hall wallpaper and bathroom wallpaper at the same time. They needed to work together well. Isn’t this floral forest wallpaper so fun?! I love mixing patterns! This peel and stick wallpaper was very easy to hang and match up. There are other color options but I like the black background to pull in the black stripes of the hall wallpaper and also the pops of color. The wallpaper makes for its own art. There was a lot of white space above the beadboard, so this whimsical wallpaper helped add character to the majority of the bathroom!
Painted Beadboard-
There was alreay beadboard hung around the base of the bathroom. It was painted green but a different green than the hallway that connects. So the colors were clashing. Once we picked a wallpaper, it was easy to decide what color would look good. We chose Leap of Faith from Benjamin Moore.
Flooring-
These are the same grey & white marble peel & stick tiles that we used in my parents kitchen. They are really easy to instal. We wanted to follow the same pattern as the tiles she already had on the floor to match up with any seams or grooves it would have. You can do a layer of quick set to raise up the grout part if needed. But her grooves weren’t deep so we just laid over top.
It really depends on your space. If her bathroom had a shower or a tub we may not have used because of how much water would be on the floor. I love vintage rugs! I’m always scrolling and looking for fun vintage rugs here.
Vanity-
Laila wasn’t a fan of the bowl sink that was in here before, and they have them in several bathrooms. Also a vanity is easier to store necessities under the sink with a vanity that has doors. We opted for this greige vanity, we liked the idea of a lighter colored vanity in this space. PS- used this scalloped planter with attached base as the garbage, and it is SO cute!!!
The fluted details on it is so cute, also has a tilt-down drawer and 2 soft-closing doors with adjustable interior shelf.
We installed this brushed gold sink faucet to match the hardware. When you purchase a prefab vanity, you do need to make sure your faucet fits the right style that its designed for.
Diffusers in the bathroom are a must! We love that you can have a diffuser running while guests are there to keep everything smelling fresh! This diffuser and other favorites are found here. Laila makes her own soap from the hand soap recipe found here.
Vanity Light-
I like these glass shades on this 3-light gold vanity light. Helps create a warm glow! I found this mirror thrifting, then we color matched the vanity and painted the wood to match. This oval mirror is similar.
Towel Bar-
I do like to have matching colors and styles of the decorative matching hardware. Like toilet paper holder and towel racks. This one was nice because its came in a 3 piece set. I chose to do those in a matte black.
Here is the matching toilet paper holder. Isn’t this trash can so fun? It’s actually a large plant pot! I had it on hand, that’s the fun of using what you already have, makes for imaginitive ways to repurpose those items.
Shelf over Toilet-
I had recently purchased this darling wall shelf because I really liked the bright red details. I love a cute open self to decorate with useful items. Favorite oils for the diffuser, grey and green hand towels, and other cute trinkets she’s collected! And had to add some cat candle holders (with these battery candles) because Laila’s cats were memorable this makeover!
Hope you enjoyed the quick bathroom makeover!
