Nesting With Grace

Ella and Lola Shared Bathroom- Jill and Jill Bathroom

Ella and Lola have a Jack and Jill Bathroom, or rather a Jill and Jill bathroom. The girls have used their bathroom for 3 years now and we’ve had a few things we wanted to change up. Their tile floor was poorly installed, had stains from the grout and cracks in the tile, honestly we never should have accepted the way it looked. Also the girls were using our bathroom because they loved our tub. Sharing all the changes and fun new items for the girls bathroom refresh.

Bathroom Before-

The main thing we wanted to change was the tile. It was not installed properly and it is a very high maintenance tile. Since we were going to change the tile, we wanted to also move the toilet over and create a separate room for it. And switch the tub to a cast iron soaker tub.

Bathroom After-

Here it is! Colors flow so well into each girl’s room. This is the layout. Vanity, toilet room (door is closed) with shower and tub across from toilet room, then vanity. Sharing all the details below!

The main thing I had to work around was the Pink Zellige Tile in the shower. I found the blue and white floor tile first, next found this gorgeous floral wallpaper, and lastly decided on the paint color of the vanity, trim and doors.
The paint color is Sulking Room Pink, same as our Home Office. I love a callback and a home that tells a story as you walk through it.
We hired Marshal Bowcutt to complete this project. We met him through soccer and knew he does amazing work. The first step of ripping out the old tile was so impressive. There wasn’t any dust or damage to the baseboards and they removed it in a day. Marshal and his team did all of the work on this project.

Floor Blue and White Diamond Tile-

As I mentioned above, we have been wanting to replace their tile, day one of moving in. Which led to changing up a few more things in the girls bathroom. We went with this blue and white square tile. I was nervous it would have the same issue as the previous tile, so Marshal tested dark grout stain all over the top of it without any sealer and was able to clean it. We did seal this tile, just in case!
We did love the pattern of this Moroccan Tile, BUT I would never buy it again. You have to clearly follow the instructions for grout, care and sealing. Our tile installers didn’t follow the instructions, and I just assumed it needed to be cleaned when we moved in. Also it was cracked in a few spots too. The dark grout stained the white background and couldn’t be cleaned, we tried it all. Best advice is to get a sample and test all sorts of things on it to see if you can clean it!
The girls love this new tile so much. Very retro looking with the baby blue. And looks so clean! Love this Vintage inspired bathroom rug over the top.

New Shower Room-

LOVE this room!!! Might be the cutest room in our house. Who knew such a little space (4.5″x5’5″) could pack so much joy in it!
We kept the same Pink Zellige Tile on the walls, just extended it to the two other walls.
The girls love my Cast Iron tub, and would take baths in it often. Since we were redoing the floors, we decided to change up their tub and shower. We put a Cast Iron Soaker Tub in their bathroom!
We have this 60″ Cast Iron with Polished Brass Hardware. This is our third Cast Iron tub from Vintage Tub & Bath, needless to say we love them! A Cast Iron tub keeps in the heat and is so nice to bath in. 60″ fit perfect in their shower room, and it is a great size for the girls, they can touch the end and soak comfortably.
We tiled the whole space so they could shower separate from using the tub. Easily walk in and shower. We went with a matching Shower System in Polished Brass. Really love the exposed look and it’s so nice to have a hand shower.
We love a bath caddy, especially when the shelf full of bath products is out of reach. Filled with essentials like a razor, soap, scrubber, etc. Helps to stay organized when there is a spot for everything.
I wanted a statement light fixture and our electrician confirmed this Swirled Glass Ball Pendant was rated for a wet space.
We also added two canned lights, so one is directly over the shower.
Behind the tub is the shower niche, it can be reached from the shower and the tub!
I didn’t want anything hiding this cute shower room! Instead of a glass door we did a curtain panel and layered a fabric shower liner behind it. The way the bathing room is set up, the liner will mainly just be catching small amounts of water. The curtain is more for privacy.
I did one panel, then attached this fabric curtain shower liner on the back with these curtain hooks. The shower curtain liner was about 5 inches too short so I did get another and sewed on that extra 5 inches.

Toilet Room-

We decided since we were ripping out tile we might as well move a few things around!
We had this open space between the girls’ vanities that I thought I would have a custom cabinet built, but we really didn’t need that, so this was a wasted space.
We honestly should have put the toilet in a separate room from the start, but at the time didn’t think it could fit and thought we needed cabinet space. We were wrong.
It is a tight fit, but it works! We wish we could have done a pocket door, but the space wasn’t big enough.
We hung this cloud pendant light in the toilet room, since you can see it from outside I wanted to create a sweet moment for a warm glow! Also love these small Myrtle Topiaries found at a local plant store potted inside these pots.
Above the toilet is a mirrored cabinet, we’ve had this for a long time. Great spot to keep extra toilet paper and all things menstrual hygiene.

Birdy side table perfect to sit a phone on or anything else.
We kept this same Pendant Light we had in their bathroom before.

Mirror Cabinets and Vanity-

For a little extra storage we decided to hang mirror bath cabinets with these vanity lights above each of the girls sinks. An easy way to get a little more storage for your space. The girls put their most used personal products in here. Perfumes, rollers, etc. Vanity Light // Mirror Bath Cabinet // Faucet // Towel Holder // Towel

They have plenty of storage in their vanity, but being able to store little jars that you don’t to spill is very handy!
We did hang real beadboard in their bathroom, we had beadboard wallpaper up at one point and as I mentioned then, it can easily get dented and not great for high traffic.
We decided to have real wood beadboard installed while we were doing all the other projects.

Little hack, hang a command hook on the inside of a cabinet door to hang a Makeup Washcloth.

Accessories-

Ella’s side of the bathroom had space for open shelves. We painted them the same color as the trim and doors, love how they turned out!
The shelves are where all their shower towels go, they keep their washcloth and hand towels under their sinks.
Plus extra towels, face makeup towels, hair elastics.

On both sides of the girls bathroom they have bath hooks for robes or towels. On Lola’s side we have extra hooks that both can hang towels.

Diffuser-

Diffuser in the bathroom is my favorite place for one! Easy and quick way to keep a bathroom smelling fresh and clean. I wouldn’t put a candle anywhere that could be left burning, especially in my kids’ spaces. This diffuser is the perfect size with oils to make the Anthropologie Volcano dupe and also some skin loving oils.
