Basement Family Room Gets even more Seating with a Sectional

We love our basement family room space to gather around the holidays, fun hangout space, and our go-to family movie spot! This space gets used a lot, especially in the colder months, we have easily gathered with 30+ people. With our new cabin in Island Park, we needed furniture for it, so we decided to take the two sofas we had in our basement and get a new sectional for this room. Sharing how we maximized our space and got even more seating!

Here is the new sectional! She is BIG! Two people can fit on each seat, we could fit about 12-15 people on this sectional, which makes me so happy! We went with this Double Cushion Sectional in the Montauk Performance Linen color Marigold. Our sectional is 15′ x 11′ we have a Left Arm Chair, Armless Chair, Armless Chair, Corner Chair, Armless Chair and Right Arm Chair. Shared more sectional options below…
Update- I do prefer these blue ottomans in here, had them in Lola’s room and had to move them in here. I moved the pink ottomans in another spot and ordered this blue bench for Lola.
A lot of the pillows on my sectional are older and collected over the years. But I do have a couple of these colorful linen pillows, which are still available.
I did change out our rug for this Handmade Oushak Rug, I wanted something with more color in here and that was a heavier rug to stay in place. We have a 10’x14′ with our 11’x15′ sectional, it was the biggest rug we could do without cutting into our walkway.
This basement space is a really long narrow room, I was concerned with how narrow it was that we wouldn’t be able to get a lot of seating in here. I was wrong! Before we had 2 sofa’s. Worked just fine, but it bothered me that there was a corner spot that we could get more seating from.

Basement Paint Color-

Our walls we added Board and Batten and we painted them all in Cool Cantaloupe from PPG (got it at The Home Depot). I LOVE how it pulled the room together. The room feels curated. PS- it is hard to get a good photo in our basement, with not a lot of natural light, so make sure to get a paint sample!
I am going to change the wood bench (taking that to our cabin) to the blue and white settee in the design plan below (it comes next week). I wanted something softer and that wasn’t the same color as the sectional.

This has always been a favorite place to hang out, and it is even more now!
We also moved these two chairs from upstairs and paired with older ottomans that used to be in Lola’s bedroom.
We just shift the chairs over when we turn on the fire, and need all the extra seating! And now with the blue ottomans, much better with the yellow sectional.

Game Room with Tree Wallpaper-

And the last change we made was to continue the tree wallpaper all the way around the game room, above the blue board and batten. We had the tree wallpaper on two walls, and now it feels complete all around the room!

Painted Blue Doors in Farrow & Ball Light Blue-

Each room has slowly been taking a turn getting some extra TLC and my basement wet bar has been on my mind, decided to make some fun changes. 
We brought the color from the game room into the wet bar area. We have four doors in this small area, a lot of doors! So we decided to paint just the doors and trim! The color is Light Blue from Farrow and Ball. We have that same blue in the game room (see below) and in Lola’s bedroom!
Now it feels finished to me! In the basement you can see into all the different areas so making everything transition well was on my mind. I’m really happy how it all turned out. What do you think?

Painted Door Transition-

I found this really charming cabinet on Facebook Marketplace for $60. I decided to paint the hutch in Bancha from Farrow & Ball (had it color matched at Sherwin Williams). The same color in our kitchen!
I still wanted color and to make this space fun. So we filled these jars with candy! I kept each jar to a solid color of candy to make it really pop. The kids have loved this, just something fun when they have friends over or when we are having a family night together in the basement.

    Brook what a fabulous, comfy looking sofa. Your design has made this such a fun, happy, cozy place to hang out. I have huge sofa envy but will live vicariously thru you. 😆 Have watched your transitions for years and am always most excited to see your posts everyday.     I never give my opinion…don’t know why I am now…the white boucle chairs are too much…overcrowd the room and block the view of the fireplace. Even though you said you move them when it’s lit, it’s just too much.
