This makeover was so fun! I knew the window dormer and pitched ceilings would make for a challenge but in the end a cozy primary bedroom with lots of charm for friends we love! Susan and Wayne are my parents close friends of 40 years, they lived across from us growing up. Susan babysat my sister and I, and then as I got older I babysat her kids. We just love their sweet family so much. This was such a big transformation!

Bedroom Before-
This is what their bedroom looked before. After seeing the room, I came up with a plan! When we offer to do a bedroom makeover (these aren’t clients who ask for design help), we gift everything from our time and all the items. The recipient of the gifted makeover, receives it as a gift, and doesn’t collaborate on the design plan. I do my best to keep their design style in mind, just be looking at other rooms in their home and talking about what they want to stay and what they can let go of. In this case the TV was never watched, and the fridge wasn’t really used either. The goal is to make it better than before!
Bedroom Plan and Sources-

Bedroom Before-
Bedroom After-
Here is the after!!! We are all so happy with it, Susan started to cry every time she walked in the room, she was so thankful and we were honored that we could do this for them.
Wallpaper and Paint-
The Lattice Wallpaper is the perfect backdrop to this bedroom, gives a cottage boutique feel. It was amazing how much brighter and larger the room felt once we applied this wallpaper to the walls. It’s a wallpaper you paste, but was very easy to hang. And, even though it’s white, was not see through at all. Heavy wallpaper so it would cover wall color. We didn’t overlap at all, we just butted up the pieces right next to each other. The pattern lined up perfectly.
For the paint I chose Benjamin Moore Slate Blue 1648 . We painted all the trim and doors. After we took down the original light we knew we would need to paint the ceiling. We really needed to anyways with the walls being so white now. We decided the blue would be so pretty on the ceiling too!
Bedding and Bed-
Susan and Wayne have the temperpedic beds. Where you can customize it for each of you. I was so worried they wouldn’t fit inside this new bed frame, but fit perfect!! It is really a large bed, making the room feel bigger, not smaller! We love the color of the faux leather that brings out the browns and golds in the bedding and room. Also they said a king sheet and king bedding would work rather than twin bedding, and it worked great since The Company Store bedding is all generous in sizing.
- Mattress Pad Protector– our favorite mattress protector that is a cooling mattress pad is a great choice for warm sleepers.
- Lattice Sheets and Sham set– you know how much I love patterned sheets. These sheets are buttery-soft and breathable… and how fun are these sheets match the wallpaper, feels so fancy!
- Scalloped Quilt– We love this lovely, lightweight layer for the bed! The details are so pretty, and pre-washed for lived-in softness!
- Peacock Duvet Cover– So soft! The color palette of blue, aqua, green, gold and white is so unique and plays well off the other layers of colors on the bed.
- Duvet Insert–this is my favorite insert!!! Nothing else can make your bed as full and fluffy!I love that it is organic too.
- Pillow Sham Insert Firm– this sham looks best for the decorative pillows you want extra full.
- Quilted Scalloped Sham–matches the sweet scalloped quilt, perfection!
- Decorative Peacock Lumbar Pillow– the cutest coordinating peacock pillow love the detailed embroidery on it.
- Lumbar Pillow Insert– plumped with premium feathers and down for maximum fullness.
Just adore the Scalloped detail on this quilt!
I kept the pillows on the bed really simple. This Decorative Peacock Lumbar Pillow completed the look!
I recommend browsing the new Riffle Paper and The Company Store Collection HERE. It is so charming, I can’t wait to use more of the collection in future makeovers.
Rug and Bench-
We loved the darker blue of this rug, balances out the white and lighter blues of the room! Not to mention it is such a soft rug!!
I ordered this boucle bench last minute, glad I did! I like how it brings a contrast between the dark rug and bed and ties in the leather bed with the leather straps.
Art-
I reached out to Lindsay looking for art that would fit their bedroom. She so kindly offered to make art for us! Now available to everyone, the Mr. Peacock in the Conservatory piece, is gorgeous! This proud peacock is so charming.
The dormer made it so we couldn’t center above the bed. We love how grouping a few more art pieces, like this June portrait, thrifted art and mirror. Really made the off center gallery wall look more collected and vintage inspired.
Nightstands and Lamps-
I had searched on FB marketplace for nightstands and had a hard time finding some that fit within our measurements. Decide to order these nightstands, and they worked out great. Perfect height too.
Added these pleated lamps, they complement the vintage boutique style of the room.
This side of the room the dormer is the star, so I didn’t hang anything over the nightstand, yet it still feels balanced.
Light Fixture-
The light placement was very off center, more over the bathroom door entrance. My thought was to swag the chain over with a hook, and hang centered. But it was too far to swag over, and would look messy. I saw this vintage chandelier at a local store I love and decided to give it a try. We contacted a local electrician friend (who is also a friend of Susan and Wayne) he was kind enough to come and help make it happen. I am so glad!! It really is such a beautiful piece and brought so much light into a darker room. Kevin also installed a dimmer on the light switch!
So dreamy with the bedding!!!
Bedroom Before-
Furniture-
Everything fell into place with this makeover. I think I say that every time. But I cannot tell you how many times there have been something that happens in a makeover that isn’t just a coincidence. During this makeover, something fell out of place. Furniture literally fell, from the back of Kevins truck! I had looked for hours for a piece that would fit under the window. I’m sad that dresser wasn’t usable anymore. But, something pretty awesome did happen. We ordered this dresser for our entry, it came with a leg broke. They replaced the dresser no problem and asked us if we wanted to keep the other! Kevin was able to replace the broken leg and now looks so stunning in their bedroom.
Above the dresser we hung this Tree of Life art, I had it and in our hall, but decided it would look better in here. I love how the art brings out the greens in the room!
On the dresser we put this green plaid and brass lamp, a new favorite find. Books from our local thrift store, we looked for hardcover books that were green, golds, yellows and shades of white! I thrifted the jewelry box too. Always shop local thrift stores for accessories! Candle taper holders and our favorite, with these battery candle sticks.
I found these chairs on Facebook marketplace for a great price, they look brand new. My tips are to search often. And use words like “vintage”. These looked in great condition online and I was so pleasantly surprised that they looked even better in person! Like brand new! I thought this striped upholstered chair option was so pretty, and this dusty blue velvet chair also.
There was a mini fridge in this spot, it was brought in a long time ago, but they no longer needed. Just needed some muscle to help move it out. We love how that little nook is transformed into a cozy spot to sit and read, Wayne commented how much he likes chairs in here. I also found that side table on Facebook marketplace!
A room isn’t complete until it has a diffuser! The non-toxic fragrance puts a calming smell (of choice) in the air. I wouldn’t feel comfortable lighting a candle in a bedroom that could be forgotten about. Plus a diffuser helps with sleep! Find all my favorite diffusers HERE.
Originally, in this corner, there was a low TV and blanket chest. I had this tall black cabinet in my open hallway, we moved it out a couple months ago, it was waiting for a new home. I love this piece and was happy it worked here. Susan and Wayne decided that they really don’t watch a lot of television in their room and the TV was too low anyways. If they end up missing it, they could hang a TV higher on the opposite wall.
I think sometimes we leave things as-is because it has always been that way. Often it takes someone from the outside to help us figure out best use of our space!
I think we accomplished the goal, making it better than before. A place they want to be and that makes them happy and inspired to be in. Thanks to Riffle Paper and The Company Store for inspiring this makeover, shop their new collection HERE.

I adore every makeover you do, but THIS is the the one I want in our new dormer bedroom – thank you for the inspiration.

You are so talented. What a beautiful, calming bedroom. I especially appreciate the curved foot board and dresser for the limited space. No sharp corners inflicting bruises in the night! =D
