Hopefully you saw the girls bedroom reveals, today I am sharing how we added a seat cushion to their built-in window seat and roman shades to the windows. The window treatments were kind-of a necessity! And now the window seat is an extra cozy spot to sit and hang out. I decided to go with a white linen on both.

Having a custom cushion can be pricey, but I felt it was worth the money for the girls to be able to comfortably sit and read. You can find ready-made cushions and have your built-in’s sized to fit, we did that in our Connecticut banquette. The girls custom cushions cost about $600 in labor including the 4″ cushion, plus the cost of fabric. Our bench cushions are 22″ deep x 80″ long. I needed 5 yards per cushion. (We found someone local to make them HERE, she did a great job and was very helpful!). In our very first Connecticut kitchen remodel I had some made from Etsy HERE.

Since the windows on the larger side, we had to order custom roman shades. I actually ordered the same roman shades that we had in our Connecticut kitchen, (from HERE). They are in linen, white and have privacy lining. We have roman shades from HERE in other bedrooms, but they only go up to 50″ wide. Finding someone to make custom roman shades isn’t easy to find, it is the most expensive window treatment to have made.

I thought about doing a fun pattern on the fabric on the window treatment and cushion, but decided to just add color with accent pillows instead. Switching out fabric can get expensive, not as easy as paint! Plus both of the bookcases have a pop of color.

A fun way to add some pattern on the roman shades was with a garland. I did a star garland on Lola’s window shades (similar HERE) and a dot paper garland on Ella’s.

- Velvet pillow with contrasting flange (with insert)
- $9.99 velvet pillow cover
- Round Pillow with pom poms
- Star Garland
- Sheepskin
- Velvet daybed cushion
- Thick cushion (other colors)
- Dark gray mattress cushion (other colors)
- Mattress cushion
- Long bench cushion

I layered a sheepskin rug (find similar at IKEA)on Ella’s window seat cushion. The paper snowflakes are still going strong (I got those at a boutique shop). Both of their pillows are older, except for these velvet pillows with contrasting flange.

If you missed it you can see more of the girls bedrooms here- Ella’s bedroom and Lola’s bedroom.
