Christmas Magic in the Girls’ Room

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is decorating the girls rooms together. Each year we bring in a little Christmas magic with a trees, twinkling lights, and ornaments that feel perfectly “them.” Their rooms are already full of color and personality, so inspiration comes easy here. Here are 3 simple but thoughtful touches that bring joy every time we walk in.

1. Hang garland above the window

A strand of green or paper garland instantly transforms their space. I love how it frames the window and adds that soft, festive texture without feeling overdone.

In Ella’s room, we hung our favorite cedar garland and then layered a paper party streamer over the top — it feels so whimsical and fun. The mix of textures and greens makes the whole window area feel alive and festive without being too much.

Lola’s window has a similar cedar garland, but we added a big gingham bow to tie in the colors from her room. It’s simple but makes the whole space feel polished and festive. Get all the details on her bedroom HERE.

2. Add a Christmas Tree

Each year we set up a tall, skinny tree in their rooms. The twinkle lights and decorated branches make everything feel magical. The girls love adding their own ornaments, and it’s so sweet to see their personalities come through.

In Lola’s room, we always mix vintage colorful ornaments with darling felt animals, bows from this pink ribbon and this yellow ric rac. It’s playful and full of personality, just like her. Her 9′ Christmas tree (another option HERE) is a flocked, tall, and skinny one that fits perfectly in the corner and adds the dreamiest glow at night.

In Ella’s room, we didn’t do a flocked tree, we went with an all green 9′ Christmas tree. We hung paper honeycomb ornaments (similar here) that match the party streamer garland above her window, and tied on lots of different ribbons for a more playful, layered look.

There’s something extra special about a Christmas tree glowing in their rooms at night , it makes bedtime feel magical and mornings feel like a scene from a Christmas movie.

3. Style the shelves

We always finish by giving their shelves a little holiday refresh. It’s such an easy way to make the room feel festive without a full makeover. We swap out our live plants (they get a cozy spot in the basement under a grow light) for decorative trees, colorful holiday houses, and winter-themed books.

For Lola’s shelves we keep it simple with colorful holiday houses that light up. They add the prettiest glow at night and make her shelves feel like a tiny Christmas village.

In Ella’s room, we add in decorative trees we’ve collected over the years. All different colors, shapes, and textures. It’s such a fun mix and adds to the colorful, whimsical feel of her space.

Obviously matching pajamas are a must (size up). It doesn’t take much to make their rooms feel magical. Just a few layers of greenery, twinkle lights, and personal touches. Decorating their spaces has become one of those small traditions that we look forward to! I love watching their excitement as soon as we plug in those little trees for the first time.
