I did a recap of the magic light trick on my instagram and I received a lot of requests to share my favorite sconces. I actually go to Amazon first, because free shipping and so many affordable options! If you are are new to the magic light trick, it is a trick I came up with over 2 years ago!!! Basically the magic light trick opens up the possibility to put a light anywhere in your home. You don’t have to hard-wire anything and you do not need an outlet!
You just need three things to create the magic light-
- Magic puck light HERE (these are my favorite and last 100 hours- plus comes with a remote- so you can use the magic light in a sconce with glass)
- PVC part
- Super Glue
- Light of your choice!
Simply attach the PVC part to the back of the magic light with super glue! Done!
Favorite Scones from Amazon-
1- Glass Sconce (*this one won’t fit my regular magic light- you need these lights if the sconce is still showing out of stock THIS is a great option) // 2- Black Sconce with a little wood // 3- Black Sconce // 4- Gold Arch Sconce
5- Sconce with Shade // 6- White Sconce // 7- White Sconce with Accent // 8- Pink Sconce // 9- Gold Sconce with Shade // 10- Green Sconce with Accent
11- White Sconce // 12- Green Sconce
Magic Light Trick Application-
We used these gold sconces with these smaller puck lights inside. Just use the remote to turn them on! (Find this bedroom makeover here).
We used these- Glass Sconces up our stairs. (*this one won’t fit my regular magic light- you need these lights if the sconce is still showing out of stock THIS is a great option). And I get asked often about the frames and stair runner too- I have more about them on this blog post.
I counted and we have 9 magic lights in our house! Mostly over art or above a desk or bed. We have THIS sconce over the art in our hall.
We used the magic light trick in this “Cloffice” makeover with this pendant light
We used the magic light trick in this piano wall makeover with this lamp (they didn’t have a plug on this wall)
There are magic lights in the sconces on the wall of this dining room
Magic light trick is secretly in the outdoor lights of this vestibule makeover
We have these green sconces over the two small windows in our living room, perfect for reading in this little window seat
The magic light trick is great over a small desk, like we did on our girls old school desk here
PS- 100’s of you have done this magic light trick in your home too!! You can see more examples on this blog post.
I am still confused about using the magic light trick on the lamp! Do you have any posts showing it on a lamp–not a wall sconce, etc? I understand the concept but, practically, how do you make it work? Do you glue the magic light right above where the bulb would go? Then all the light would shine upward? My husband and I have tried to figure this out for lamps in our living room on multiple occasions but we keep getting stumped. I would LOVE a post on how to make it happen with a table lamp!
I think it would work the same with a table lamp. Once you glue the puck light to the PVC piece it should screw right into the lightbulb opening on your table lamp. Then just unscrew like a normal lightbulb when you need to replace. The light would shine up but the lampshade should diffuse some.of it downward as well. Maybe try a cheap puck light first from the dollar store to see how the light diffuses down for your lamp. She has a picture of it in a lamp on her piano, if you scroll back up, and you can see what it looks like.
Do you screw the threaded part into where the real lightbulb would go??
yes, exactly!
Any way you could make this work with a picture light—the narrow, rectangular lights hung above artwork or on bookcases?
you could maybe try these lights- https://rstyle.me/+pUlYe9P3PmKK8m4NcFEkbw
