I have blogged about our master bedroom more times than is probably “normal.” Every time that I have shared our master bedroom you have never seen the ceiling. It is always strategically cropped out. That is because I was hiding a secret. The ceiling was bad. But now is the day you get to see the ceiling in all it’s glory- be excited. And a new ceiling leads to new bedding, fluffy white bedding to be exact, from Boll and Branch. Because I had another secret, that white duvet that we were using was close to 7 years old and starting to show it’s age. It was time for something new.
Of course I need to share the lovely before photos. This is what it looked like when the previous home owners had their way with it. They used it as a little guest room. You can see we took off the chair railing that cut the room in half. Removed the curtains, actually I think they must have liked them so much they took them when they moved. Painted the walls in Gray from Benjamin Moore. And transformed the ceiling. I will be sharing the full story on the ceiling in another post.
This is what it looks like today- after I got me hands on it! See, I told you I would show you the ceiling. You can see my other master bedroom posts HERE and notice that you never see the ceiling. OK back to this space. I am in love with my fluffy white bedding. So let’s talk about that first. (There will be direct links to everything at the end of this post).
Anything that comes wrapped like this has got to be well made. Boll & Branch is made with organic cotton, that is farmed ethically and the people who weave the cotton are treated and paid well, oh I love that. Also their mission and what they stand for is pretty great. The sheets and duvet are extremely soft and cozy.
Here are my tips to get that cozy, fluffy, “want to jump right in” look-
#1– It is all about what you stuff your bedding with. I go with down inserts on my pillows, always. The fuller the better.
#2– Go bigger than prescribed- For my duvet I actually stuffed it with a king size fiber insert. My duvet is a queen, but the king insert makes it feel so much fuller, especially if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a really full insert. Use larger inserts than the actual pillow casing. For instance if you have a 20″ pillow case you would want to use a 22″ down insert. It will change your pillow life!
#3– Add several layers. Start with sheets. Warmer months add a quilt. Layer a throw at the end or in the center.
#4– Mix up your pillows. Lay some flat to add height. Aim for at least five pillows on your bed to create depth and that cozy feel.
The pillows with the single navy band are the actual pillows we sleep with. I layered the Boll & Branch pumpkin cable knit throw over the sheets for another cozy touch for the fall.
I really like how the pumpkin throw goes with the navy banding on the white bedding. The pumpkin throw also ties in my new art above our bed perfectly, it is from Minted.
I just added this new jute rug too. See how that works? New ceiling- new bedding- new rug. It never ends. But man I love this RugsUsa jute rug. It is extremely soft for a natural jute rug. I love the golden warm color that works so well with the pops of navy. The subtle diamond patten also works well with the plain white bedding, adds some interest to the space.
Alright it didn’t stop with the rug. We also got new bedside sconces. We used to have smaller lamps here that I didn’t always love by our bed. I really wanted to do a wall sconce like these from Barn Light Electric. They make me SO happy. First of all you may notice that (depending on what your standards are) our bedroom is on the smallish side. It is about 11’x12′ and the bed is tucked in a little space with not a lot of room for nightstands.
Luckily I found two vintage nightstands and painted them both white. I love a these wall sconces in a bedroom for so many reasons, let me count the ways. With another list!
#1– They don’t take up any room on our nightstand
#2– You can hang them anywhere you like- allowing you to add some height
#3– They can still plug into the wall just like a lamp, no need to hire an electrician, these came with a plug
#4– You can adjust them depending on where you need the light
#5– They are brass people! Enough said.
I shared the new sconces on Instagram as soon as we hung them. I was asked if it was too bright without a shade. No, not at all. The trick is the Edison light bulb that puts off such a soft glow. Barn Light Eclectic actually sends a light bulb of your choice with the lighting you order!
I think I have had the best night sleep thanks to Boll & Branch and this luxurious bedding. Thank you Boll & Branch for sponsoring this post. I will be back to show you the rest of the room (yes there is more) and how we installed the ceiling tomorrow and to tell you what we used…can you take a guess?
