What do you think of the ceiling fans?
I read an article about design mistakes and a designer said that he considers ceiling fans a design mistake. I disagree. Ceiling fans have come a long way! He thinks that homes should be designed properly for the right air flow so you do not need a ceiling fan. In a perfect world that *might* be possible. But all homes are not created equal and sometimes it is necessary for a ceiling fan or at least a portable fan.
I shared some of my favorite fans and also other favorite things from the past week!
I love this white kitchen it looks retro but also modern with gold accents. Here is an example of a fan done well! We actually don’t have central air in our home. It was built in 1950’s and it would be a lot of money to convert to central air. This is about the time of year we bring out the window units. I HATE how they look. Last week it got up to 90 degrees here in CT and we managed without the window units. Granted we do have one window unit in our master bedroom that is hidden behind curtains when the fan is not being used. It cools our main floor pretty well. The one room that tends to get hot is the kitchen. So I am trying to decide what to do in there. I really don’t want to put the window unit in. So I set up a portable fan on the counter and hopefully it does the trick! (wish me luck!)
In Finns nursery and the front room we just use portable fans and we really rarely have to use those.
It does get really hot upstairs. We just added two modern ceiling fans up there and I am hoping that they keep it cool and we can avoid installing the window units (I will share them next week). Below are some of my favorite ceiling fans and portable fans-
#1- Ceiling Fan White HERE // #2- Ceiling Fan Modern HERE // #3- Ceiling Fan Black & Gold HERE / #4- Ceiling Fan Mint HERE (also available in black) // #5- Ceiling Fan Black and Gold HERE // #6- Silver Portable Fan HERE // #7- Cream Portable Fan HERE // #8- Blue Fan HERE // #9- Portable Copper Fan HERE // #10- Standing Fan HERE
What do you think of those fans? Stylish and modern don’t you think? Now moving onto the rest of my favorite things…
- I loved the above exterior that I spotted on Instagram from Caitlin Creer. This might be one of my favorite exteriors ever. Love the front door and dark accents.
- Spotted this girls bathroom reveal this week HERE. The herringbone floor is so gorgeous and timeless. Also the light above the mirror is such a great idea! I am a stool hoarder, she said she found that one at Home Goods.
- I think I might be lazy- actually I take that back I know I am not a lazy person. But why do I look at sandals and think, I don’t want to even bend over and do up a strap or a buckle? Is that normal? So when I saw THESE shoes I knew they were for me. I am so in love with them. They can be casual or formal. I ordered them in the nude color.
- Also speaking of summer and sandals. I live in knee length skirts in the summer. They are my summer must-have. I just got THIS skirt because #pockets!!! And THIS one because it is basically lounge wear in a skirt.
I was seriously going to e-mail you the other day asking you about that blue table fan I’ve seen before in your girls room. I live in Illinois where the humidity alone is unbearable in the summer. All of our bedrooms have ceiling fans and they are a true blessing to have. I agree with you on that-my home is old and not conducive to good air flow so ceiling and table fans are a must. This post made me smile this morning seeing your use of table fans to keep your family comfortable. BTW, they look so cute where you have them scattered. I can’t wait to see your upstairs ceiling fans next week.
That is so funny:) I have had that blue fan forever and I get asked about it all the time! So I rounded up some favorites.
See you totally get it! I will share the fans upstairs next week (waiting on one part) I LOVE them so much!
hey girl- love the post! Those fans look pretty cool! Y’all have a great weekend and stay cool!
I love the fans and can’t wait to see more. Can you tell me where the glass display boxes are from, they always catch my eye?
Thank you! I have had those boxes for a long time- I think that I saw them at Pottery Barn or West Elm…maybe look there!
Ceiling fans make a huge difference! I would only consider them a design mistake if they are the terrible ones that people think of—there are so many cool ones (like the ones you show)—I’m not in favor of those with lights though, but that’s just me.
I agree! And I have heard that- if you are going to have a fan do one without a light. The ones I did do have a light….but I won’t turn it on:)
Hi Brooke, love your back deck and what you’ve done with it! Would you please tell me what solar lights you have? Thankyou!!! Happy and safe Memorial Day weekend to you and your family!! Cassie
Hi! Thank you! I will be sharing next week! But these are the ones I bought- http://rstyle.me/n/cnxd3ab5qwf best price and have worked great so far.
I can’t wait to see the ones you’ve chosen for your house. I need to buy a few fans for my new house but just can’t make a decision. I have bare bulbs coming out of the ceilings of every room…a fan can’t be a worse design choice than that!
I’m with you 100% – yes to stylish fans and no to sandals with buckles! 🙂
I personally love a nice ceiling fan. I love Southern decor and to me they are very Southern–and certainly my Southern in-laws in Virginia have them all over the house. My husband grew up on a river in Virginia without air conditioning (thank goodness they now have it when we visit but for years they didn’t!), so those ceiling fans were a necessity. I think they still create a nice cooling breeze, even with air cond. I hate still air so I usually have fans running all summer long.
I’ve also seen some fabulous ideas on Pinterest, with ways to paint old ceiling fans and give them a more industrial look with the cool new Edison bulbs and those types of things. I might try that at some point.
I agree! I like to have the air moving around too. And that is smart with the Edison bulb, they are the greatest light bulbs ever!
