One question I have gotten a lot of questions on is if we like our Jute Rug and how it is holding up. So I thought I would share my two cents about Jute Rugs and ours!
We have had our Jute Rug for about 4 months now. I have to admit I was a little nervous about ordering a Jute Rug. Jute Rugs get a bad rap for shedding, smelling and being scratchy, so you kind of run the risk of hating it. If you do your research you could get a rug that you love and that goes with anything you put with it. Oh and for a fraction of the price of your average rug.
If you remember this room before I had the below rug that we moved to our daughters room…
It was a really flat weave. It was not the softest to roll around on and play, so I knew that most any rug would be softer than what we had.
I am HAPPY to report that our new Jute Rug IS actually soft! I took an up-close photo so you could see the weave. It does have a few pieces that stick up, but they should not be cut off- it would leave a hole. Also we just vacuum on the normal vacuum setting- but you could use a light vacuum setting to avoid any snagging.
Below is a photo of the opposite side of our rug. I took this picture without even vacuuming. You can see it doesn’t shed at all. I don’t have a rug pad under here…yet! I really need one and it will also add to the comfort and softness.
I have to say I would give this rug a 9/10. The only reason I gave it a 9 was because it does shed but ONLY on black pants. You can find our exact rug HERE.
I thought I would also address the question about light linen sofas. We got our new sofa when we got the Jute Rug. I really wanted to lighten up this room and I knew the light sofa would make a big difference to the look and feel of the room.
I am really happy to report that we are loving our new light linen sofa. I don’t let the kids eat in this room, so it hasn’t gotten dirty. Also the bench seat cushion is on the firm side so it holds the shape really well. One of my best tips I could give to keep your sofa looking good is to rotate your cushions every couple of weeks and also rotate the back cushions once a week. You can find our exact sofa HERE.
Let me know if you have any other questions on our space! You can shop our home and this room HERE I linked up some of my favorite Jute Rugs that I love the look of below…
Thank you, Brook! Right in time! Couple days ago, we talked maybe should get jute rug but with all those concerns about shedding, being rough, and of course cleaning…….BTW, have you had the opportunity to clean it yet?
I just vacuum it with the normal setting on the vacuum.
hey girl- love the rug! so cool!
thank you!
I bought a jute rug from Target a few years back. I love the look but you are right on point with the shedding and feeling rough. I’ve been looking for one with a better review and I think yours is it. Thank you! BTW, would you be able to tell me where the solid blue pillow on your window seat is from? Thanks!
yes- it can be hard to find the right one!
I have had that for close to 8 years, I don’t remember the source:(
Thank you for all of your wonderful information. I LOVE your sofa, and the hints are terrific! The sofa looks fabulous in your room, right along with the rug!
thanks so much Sue!
Okay. I don’t want to gross anyone out, but let’s be real. The cats + / or dogs ALWAYS hurl on the rug. Always. My fear re: jute rugs is that there will always be a stain if a mishap does occur. Anyway, I love the herringbone of your rug. Very stylish!
Where can I find the pink pillows on your sofa?
Hello! I linked it here- http://nestingwithgrace.com/shop-our-home/
Hi, Brooke!
Have you had any experience with sea grass rug?
I haven’t!
