New Sofa in Family Room - Nesting With Grace

When we first moved into this house 2 years ago I had a plan for the family room furniture and I loved it immediately after we installed everything. Fast forward to a couple months ago I decided to try a larger rug in the family room area. I had originally went with an 8×10 rug because I didn’t want to block the glass doors leading to our back patio. Turns out we only ever opened one of the doors, and if we needed to open both doors, we still could because the doors swing out. With a larger rug, there was more space for a larger sofa, so I sold our original sofa and got a larger one. Ready to see it?

I always put everything into a design plan before I order, it helps to visualize and then you can also show others for their thoughts, like I showed my family. They all picked the navy velvet sofa and agreed it was a great sofa and look with what we had in the room

Here is the new sofa! Went with a navy velvet sofa. Velvet sofas are my favorite, I love how they look vintage and add such a pretty texture. Plus in my experience they have been easy to clean with my spot cleaner and thieves.

We went from a 72″ sofa to a 92″ sofa, the scale feels better for the room.

We have this tufted sofa in velvet forest color in the room, and LOVE it! I do wish I had gotten that sofa in the longer length, we have the 69″ length, which actually leaves room for our tall plants and Christmas tree. I was being extra cautious on furniture size and was used to an 1100 square foot house!

This is what we had in here before, and we did like the Sixpenny Neva Sofa, it was very comfortable, just not long enough. I could have ordered the same sofa in 84″ length, but also wanted it a little taller.

We painted our entry in Hauge Blue from Farrow & Ball to accent more of the navy. I like to repeat colors throughout our home and the navy does transition nicely.

Also added the blue throw blankets to our sherpa chairs to pull in the blue to this side of the room.

This is the layout of the room, you can see how it is a long narrow room, but still able to pack in seating with the larger 9×12 rug. I recently got this rug, and it is very light, which I like, but not for everyone…can get dirty easily! I am considering this oval coffee table to fill the space a little more and connect the navy sofa.

Plenty of room to still walk through to the backyard and open the iron door on the right (info on doors HERE). We LOVE having a bench behind the sofa, rather than a sofa table. Someone is always sitting at the bench when we have parties or just thought the normal day it is a great place to talk to everyone in the kitchen.
