When Kevin and I got a new bed we knew we wanted to give our old bed to someone rather than selling it. And I wanted to do a makeover too! When The Company Store reached out and wanted to partner on bedding, it was a perfect time to ask my local community to submit their bedrooms for an opportunity to get a makeover! We had a lot of submissions! So many deserving people. We decided on someone that was actually submitted by her friend! I teared up when I read her email, this makeover was meant for them!
Hello!I’m writing to you from Kentucky, but in nomination of a much deserving family that lives in Fairfield County, CT! As soon as I saw this giveaway I got so excited because my friend Liz (she is also a Nesting With Grace follower!) and her sweet family are some of the most deserving people I know to potentially receive such a special treat like a mini bedroom makeover! Liz and Tim are a military family, her husband is with the Connecticut Air National Guard C-130 unit and has been deployed 8 different times in his military career. He is currently gone for training for 6 months and is not able to travel home because of COVID. Liz is one of my dearest friends, one of the most giving people I know and is currently pregnant with her 3rd little boy (due in July). She is a nurse and lactation consultant working at a local hospital and juggling being a temporary single parent. They both work extremely hard and the unexpected nature of COVID has brought about some extra challenges for their family. I know something like this would bring so much light and joy to their lives! Thank you for your consideration and for doing this for someone, it is such a sweet and selfless act!Thank you!Katrina

Bedroom Before-

Bedroom After-
This entire room took Kevin and I about 5 hours from start to finish. We just tried to use what we brought with us and left knowing it was “better than before”. First step, we took everything out then painted the walls in a white. Now the floor heaters blend in with the walls an aren’t as noticeable. The color we did was the same color we have on all the walls in our home- Cloud White from Benjamin Moore.
And swapped the curtain panels out to just bamboo shades in the window, a better fit with the floor heaters.
They had a lot of extra furniture in their room they weren’t using, we found a great spot for one of the bookcases in their sons bedroom! And they can bring in the bassinet when the baby comes.
The bedding really makes the bedroom! Fluffy inserts and a nice quality quilt is a great investment piece! We got everything, including the inserts from The Company Store, here are the links below-
- Stripe Duvet with this Duvet Insert (insert on sale!)
- Gray Quilt (on sale!)
- Gray Shams with these Pillow Inserts
- Stripe Euro Sham with these Euro Sham Inserts
- Gray Sheet Set
- Relax Pillow
I like to fold my duvet down, so it looks extra fluffy! I have the same inserts we used on their bed for a long time! They are an investment, but one you will use for years. You can easily wash inserts too when needed. THIS Down Alternative Comforter is the exact insert I used on this bed, we did a queen in the queen duvet.
I stack two sleeping pillows in the back, euros in the front and an accent pillow! Pretty simple and easy to re-make.
We gave them our old dresser, which I LOVE! It fit really great on this wall with an oversized plant. Nice change from what they had before. They have a lot of space in this bedroom so they can easily bring in more once they decide how they want to use the room and when their baby boy comes, in about 5 weeks! (Dad should be home from the military by then ♥️ ).
They had that little nightstand that I just gave a fresh coat of spray paint with Linen White Chalk Paint! The white brings in the bedding nicely. And I spray painted the knobs to match the old teacart I had!
Aren’t they the cutest? The boys immediately jumped on the bed and said how great the room looked “oh it looks so nice!” Liz- you are the cutest pregnant mama! We can’t wait for you hubby to come home! Thank you for sacrificing so much while your husband serves. And thank you Tim for your service to protect our country. We were honored to serve your family in this small way.

This looks great! What a nice thing to do for a deserving family. Also- that type of heat is called “baseboard heating”!😂. Very common in the northeast!
Hi! What size rug did you put under the bed?
about 8×10
Brooke, do you have a code for the Company Store? They have a small one over there now but it only takes 15% off my items. Thanks!
Susan ~
Who hasn’t wished for a good fairy to sweep in and do a make-over?! That was such a kind and generous act to a deserving young family. Just the reminder of the goodness of people that I needed to read when our country is in such turmoil.
Looks great! Do you have a link for the rug?
Yes HERE!
What a sweet gift for this family! <3 As a military spouse myself I can sure say how hard it is to move all the time and have your person away so her having this oasis of a space is just phenomenal! <3
