I LOVE open shelves in a kitchen. We don’t have any upper cabinets. The cups and mugs on the shelves are what we use to drink out of, so they don’t have time to collect dust! And we use the cutting boards to serve off of too. Our plates and bowls are in a drawer in our island. I snapped some photos after I took down our Christmas decor of just our kitchen shelves! Sharing some photos and sources at the end of the post.

We start with leaning art or cutting boards as a backdrop. You can see on every shelf (I consider the bottom shelf the counter) I have something leaning to break up the decor.

Stacks of cook books not only look good, but are practical too! (Low bowls are from HERE).

A plant is a must-have on one of the kitchen shelves to add life and dimension! I have a spider plant on the top shelf here. (My mugs are from HERE).

Also notice how the white marble cutting board helps everything pop and brighten up that top shelf that could be dark.

Moving over to the side of the kitchen….I have a plant in this textured pot to add some height and drama.

I repeated similar colors on these open kitchen shelves. Started with with this oversized white mixing bowl and put a my Lipstick plant inside. Stack of books and artwork with the pink!

Baby Tears plant layered in front of some older cutting boards.

Even styling some copper measuring cups! When I buy practical items, I try to buy the cutest version of it! So it can also double as decor.

Love the pops of pink!
Thanks for the tips! I love using patterned serving trays as backdrop pieces as well – they are fun to collect, useful, and usually affordable.
Love the contrast against the black tile!
I love that all the pretty things are also useful🙌🏻 I love the practicality and convenience of that!!
