When we bought this 1970's Ranch home there was one large room when you walked in the front door. Part of it was an entry that stepped down to large room that was used for a formal living room and a dining room. I did like how open it was, but we really didn't need a formal living room. What we did need was a home office. So we decided to build a wall to separate the large open room and create a dining room and an office. We have been using this home office for 3 months now and it is the MOST used room in our home!!!!! We use it as mine and Kevin's office, along with my sister and mom who ... Read More

She has several areas to work on, as one does when you move into a new home. I was excited we could take this on for her! I actually took the challenge to find everything from Walmart.com and only spent around $1000! Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post Primary Bedroom Before- Not a bad start for living here two days! We moved this rug into one of the kids bedrooms and used the ... Read More

We finally got to move into the home we have been remodeling for 9 months!!!! Slept here 3 nights and we are in heaven. I wanted to get the kids bedrooms all done first, even before the kitchen. If the kids have a cozy spot to sleep, play, get their clothes I knew they would feel safe and like this was home. It worked, Finn slept in longer than he ever has before! Let's take a look at his bedroom before and after. Finn Bedroom Before- You can tell they had major style when this room was designed! Bold and full of color, which I love. Why I had my Tooth Pulled instead of a Root Canal and Four Other Stories
I wasn't planning on writing a blog post on my root canal. Until it became such a popular subject in my direct messages, I thought it deserved a post. I learned a lot about dental care from others stories that ultimately helped with my decision to have my tooth pulled instead of a root canal. I do want to preface with this - YOU have to be your own health advocate. This is not bashing a medical profession at all. Many have and will have root canals with success. It is simply stories, letting you know that there are options besides a root canal, also that teeth are more than something to chew ... Read More
We Bought a 1970’s Ranch Style Home
We are proud home owners of a 1970's Ranch Style Home…and it is a fixer upper. If you missed it- we are moving from Connecticut to Utah! We actually bought this home a month ago and have plans in the works for the remodel. The "Wallpaper House" we call it, needs a lot of work, a diamond in the rough. My father-in-law (who is our contractor) said, "why didn't you just buy a new house? Or should we just knock it down and start over?" Ha! You too might think that as you take a gander at these photos…. This was the first time Kevin and the kids saw the house in person…and we already owned it! ... Read More
House Plant Tour and Plant Care Tips
It's no secret, I am a big fan of houseplants. They add so much life to a room! And, if you get to know your little plant friend, aren't that hard to take care of. Recently I shared an article that 100% supports my plant addiction!! It said that NASA researchers have done studies on the best and most efficient ways to clean the air in space stations, and they recommend 18 plants for an 1800 square foot home or apartment. Plants can absorb toxins through their leaves and serve as a natural way to filter the air in your home! (article source). Does that convince you to buy some plants? Or make ... Read More
Window Treatments- Curtains Panels, Roman Shades and Bamboo Shades
I get asked often about window curtain panels. From how high to hang the curtain rod to how wide, and how many on each side. In this blog post I share my tips and tricks from past makeovers for hanging curtain panels and my favorite window treatments! Curtain Panels How high to hang curtain rod? It really depends on the room on how wide I hang the curtain rods. As you can see in our bedroom we don't have a lot of space to hang the rod above the window. Most of the time I hang the rod about 5"-6" above the window and about 5-6" wider than the window. In our bedroom I did hang them 5" ... Read More
Christmas Fireplace Mantle and our Narrow Christmas Tree
Having a fireplace is a real treat this time of year. This is our third year having a fireplace in this home. When we added this electric fireplace I had visions of swooping garland and stockings hung from the mantle. Vision came true this year. I brought out all my Christmas garland from past years and ended up layering it all here! It is very extra, but it feels very cozy and goes with our layered look. Since I beefed up the gland so much I kept the decor on the mantle pretty simple with art, battery candles and a mercury tree (our mercury tree is old). To attach all the garland I ... Read More
