Having a fireplace is a real treat this time of year. This is our third year having a fireplace in this home. When we added this electric fireplace I had visions of swooping garland and stockings hung from the mantle. Vision came true this year. I brought out all my Christmas garland from past years and ended up layering it all here!

It is very extra, but it feels very cozy and goes with our layered look. Since I beefed up the gland so much I kept the decor on the mantle pretty simple with art, battery candles and a mercury tree (our mercury tree is old).

To attach all the garland I just hammered in two nails to the top of each corner of the mantel. The nails kept the garland in place and held it all up (command strips never work for me).

Garland Breakdown- I thought it would be helpful to know that our mantle is 3.5′ wide. I used two of these 6′ boxwood garland, one of these mercury garlands, two of these felted ball garlands and two chunky felt garland (that is really old). And there is a stand of Christmas lights wrapped around the boxwood.

- Tassel Garland
- Wood Beaded Garland
- Boxwood Garland
- 9′ Flocked Garland
- Felted ball Garland
- Mercury Glass Ornament Garland
- Blueberry Garland
- Black Garland
- Flocked Garland
- Crochet Garlan

We got this narrow flocked tree and it fit perfectly in this XL Basket! The lights are so pretty on this tree! They look bigger because the flocking covers the lights too. Highly recommend this tree!

I took a poll on Instagram asking what art would be best over our fireplace. The winner was this Paint by Numbers, well the votes were pretty much tie. I ended up putting this “Oh, Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a great of mind. Miracle on 34th Street“, on the piano (find it here coupon code nesting10 on any art). I really like the black contrast to the pink piano.

I will share more of this room soon! Going to decorate the bookcases. But wanted to show you the piano how I left my plants and just added these bubble battery lights to the plant for a festive touch!
More Fireplace Inspiration-

We makeover my parents fireplace last December and I gave it a festive touch! You can see it here.

This was our Christmas mantle last year! You can find it here.

And the year before here.

For this makeover I did for a friend I hung garland over her windows instead of the fireplace!

Also if you don’t have a fireplace, this is what I did one year…hung the stockings on our railing with real garland. (see our home for Christmas in 2017 HERE).

Noah loves laying by the fireplace and the tree, which makes me. very happy! PS- you can shop our home HERE and find how we built this fireplace HERE.
Oh my goodness, I love the layering so much! Looks so good.
