This is one of my favorite DIY projects that I did a few years ago for a friends shower. I needed a little favor for 30 people and wanted it to be part of the decor. I came up with these simple glass cake pedestals that we put a little cupcake on each. They were such a hit I wanted to share them as a great easy DIY gift idea that will only cost you a few dollars. Best thing is they are useful all year long! I found little glass cups without handles and glass plates that would be a good match in scale. Both were at a second hand store for less than a dollar each. These are items that I ... Read More
New String Art- For Christmas
I love the look of String Art and I had been wanting to try my hand at it- honestly it seemed really hard just looking at the images I saw on Pinterest. Most tutorials I saw required that you use an overhead projector to make the design, I don't know about you but I don't have one of those laying around. I shared how I made the first string art design I ever did HERE. Christmas is getting closer and I wanted to give the string art a seasonal change too. Sadly the first design I tried was a #fail. I didn't give up, I tried again and ended up with a really cute Christmas Design. I took ... Read More
A Christmas Countdown- With Purpose
We have to have a countdown to Christmas at our home...or I will get asked every day how many more days until Christmas. Really my girls could use a countdown calendar for every Holiday. It is actually Lola's Birthday the end of November and we have a countdown calendar for her birthday going right now. I know it is early but I have to get a head start on these things- we go see family in December so I like to get our Christmas up early to actually enjoy it. I do look forward to the calendar maybe just as much as my kids do. I love to set it up and typically look for a different place ... Read More
Hanging Pendant Light DIY
I heard somewhere that an overhead light should only be turned on if you lost an earring! I totally agree. Overhead light can be so harsh, not very cozy or inviting. That is one thing I love about our 1950's Cape is that there is hardly any overhead lighting, forcing everyone to switch on a lamp for light. I fell in love with THESE pendant lights and did not have a spot in the traditional sense of where a pendant light should go. Most pendant lights come without a plug so you have to have them hardwired and that can be very expensive if you don't already have existing power to ... Read More
DIY Glass Terrarium
Any chance I get to go to my friend Annie's home I take it, or ask for it rather! Her home was the perfect backdrop for these glass terrariums that we wanted to make. I knew that she would also have great ideas and give me reassurance that our terrariums were up to par since she writes a blog too, Most Lovely Things and has an amazing sense of style. She welcomed us with a little greeting on her front door that she wrote with a pen like THIS. We headed right to her backyard to get working on our glass terrariums. My girls were very excited for this project. We have been ... Read More
New Family Room Barn Track Door
Ever since the day we moved into this house in January of 2015 I have wanted a sliding barn track door. First of all the doors in the upstairs of our Connecticut Cape are hallow core doors, not like our nice 1950's solid wood doors on our main level. I was searching on Instagram and came across wood doors from White Shanty and fell in love with their style. They aren't your typical rustic "barn" door look. I found a classic style door and we are thrilled with the look in the space. As you can see we fit a lot into one little room. We actually had to have the sofa taken apart at an ... Read More
