My sweet friend Annie came over the other day to collaborate on a few Christmas gift ideas and she brought with her the cutest DIY clay Christmas Ornament. It could also be a DIY Christmas Tag. You just need a few things to make these. They remind me of play-dough actually. I have made salt dough ornaments before and those are a little bit more work. These are so easy, anyone could do it!!! When Annie (she has a blog- Most Lovely Things) came over she decorated my mantle and strung the clay ornaments onto my new tassel garland (I have 2 up) and mixed in the wood beaded garland. I ... Shiplap Fireplace and DIY Mantle (Ditched the Old Traditional)
A lot of you wanted the step by step tutorial on this DIY shiplap fireplace makeover that Kevin and our friend Joe did (in Joe's home). It turned out really amazing. They did such a good job. I had a basic vision of taking the existing fireplace mantle completely off, (it was very traditional and really too small for the space) and coming up with something that we could DIY. It had to not take too much time and not cost a ton of money. Sounds like a simple request right? "I don't want this to take too much time or money!" haha! Famous last words. In our home we added an electric ... Read More
DIY Room Spray- Non Toxic Room Freshener
You know I have been on a kick to rid the toxins in our home, for everyday items. This does not mean we are perfect. Just that we are aware and trying to switch up what we can. Slowly. It is a process. One item that we did use was a room refresher. I especially like to have them in bathrooms when guests come. Or even in Finn's room after I changed his diaper. Room fresheners do contain small amounts of chemicals, long-term, low-dose exposure can cause the same health hazards as a higher dose! Very interesting and a good reason to make your own, simple DIY room spray!! All non-toxic, ... Read More
Fireplace Reveal- Our Electric Brick Fireplace
Last Monday I shared that we were going to add an electric fireplace to our small front room. I kept saying "I hope it works out"! And folks, it totally worked out! I had big dreams of having a fireplace. A painted white brick fireplace to be exact. And seeing as our home was built in the 1950's it just felt like a fireplace was supposed to be in this 1100 square foot home of ours. Are you ready to see how it looks? Today I will share the full reveal, how much the total price was for us to add this electric fireplace, how long it took and the why behind the choices we made. Painted Brick ... Read More
Changes to our Front Room-Fireplace Plan
I really hope this works out. Do you ever start a project with that sentence? Because we really love this idea that I saw and thought it would be perfect for our small front room. We are going to add a fireplace! An electric fireplace. With a full brick surround and wood mantle. Eeekkkk! I am so excited! When we moved into this home 3 years ago I looked into adding a fireplace and it was over 5,000 to do it. And not to mention we would have to add gas to our home to get a gas fireplace. Which would be nice, but not ready to fully commit to this house. So very excited to attempt this electric ... Read More
How to make a DIY Chalkboard- Outdoor or Indoor
This post is a little overdue! I totally forgot that some of you wanted our easy chalkboard tutorial on how we made a quick DIY chalkboard for our garden space. We figured out how to make our own simple chalkboard out of necessity. Our fence seemed like it needed something in the space to the right of our nesting box. And not to mention an outdoor chalkboard is a fun thing for kids to use. Our kids haven't used it much because we were gone for 5 weeks after we made it. A DIY chalkboard would really be fun by an area where you have outdoor sports to keep track of scores! We actually ... Read More
Easiest Way to Make Candles- Non Toxic and Natural
I decided to try making candles. I actually volunteered to teach how to make candles for a church activity and not once had I ever made a candle. I was willing to try. I thought candle making would be a fun activity, sign me up! The only problem. Well besides I had never made a candle, was that we were doing the activity outside. No stove. No double broiler. After some research I found that candles have been made in a crock pot. But not the way I wanted to do it. Needless to say. I experimented. And maybe because it was a church activity, it totally worked! This is the EASIEST way to make ... Read More
$200 Black Shed Exterior Makeover
Kevin had a couple days off this week, the kids are still in school so we couldn't go anywhere fun. In the back of my mind was a FUN project. Always. A little shed makeover! And the way Kevin works it took a day, it would have been less if we didn't have kids and other things going on. I took a poll on Instagram asking what color we should paint the shed, either black or white. The entire time I had wanted to do black. But then I thought....hmmmm maybe white would be better to match our house. You want to know what everyone voted for?? It was basically SPLIT in half! And I just want to preface ... Read More
Shiplap Wall DIY Tutorial- Inexpensive Accent Wall
I have another EASY DIY project for you! We added a wood planks or as most refer to it as shiplap to the nursery we recently made over in two days for my sister-in-law. I personally don't think shiplap is going anywhere and love it in a small application like we used it. You could do this same shiplap look on a ceiling or the entire wall. We partnered with Lowe's to complete this project and so happy we did because we found the perfect pack of wood to use as shiplap and that was very affordable. Everything in this room and for this project can be found at Lowe's. Keep in mind you can ... Read More
