It all started with pumpkins and I had ordered a few fall shirts to try a week ago and they came in. Annnnnd I love them. I will say at first glance they were a no. But once I tried them on they felt uber cozy. It got me thinking how fall fashion trends seem pretty on-trend with home decor trends. I found an article from Elle Decor Magazine with the Top Fall Trends for 2019. I thought it would be fun to find something similar in Home Decor that is a must-have for Fall!
While I will never dress this high-fashion and be on-trend with the fashion scene. We can all take bits and pieces of the fall fashion influence! And it is fun guide as you pick out fall pieces. No you will probably never dress in all feathers. Ha! But you might find some fun earrings with feathers. Or that might influence how you decorate your home!
Fall Trends 2019
(You can find one of my new fall shirts HERE!! I am confused- because I have that I ordered the mustard, it does not look like the mustard online!)
1- Fashion Fall Trend- Itty Bitty Bags vs Decor– Little Decor Details
Fashion- “A small, structured style in a new shape is the statement bag of the season,” said Basloe. Love this look. I wish I could take a mini bag around. Maybe for a date-night!
I did actually find a really cute some-what mini purse HERE that. this trend influenced!
Fall Home Decor Trend- Little Details like glowing lights
I would say this fashion trend resembles the importance of the small, tiny finishing decor pieces. For Fall a big trend is the right lighting. Mood is everything to me. So imagine the photo below without the little accents lights. Or even the strand of felt garland. The little things add up to big things. Just like a mini accent purse does to your outfit. (link below on some lights. Or go to THIS blog post all about lights!!)
2- Fall Fashion Trend- Make Way for Millennial Purple vs Decor- Pops of Statement Color
Fashion- “2018 was all about Millennial pink, but everything is coming up purple this fall. You can opt for an all-over color or you can easily work in a touch of lavender with your accessories.”
Fall Home Decor Trend- Pops of Statement Color
This lilac hue is popping up everywhere! You could add in a color like this in simple ways like with a vase, in your art, or even paint it on a piece of furniture for a surprise! Millennial Purple blends in nicely with grays, whites, blacks, and even greens so be bold and try it out! For me…..I can’t jump in. Sorry! So….
I think the best way to use a statement color for Fall is in details, but remember that colors need to be repeated throughout a space. In my fall front room, for example, I mixed in some rust colors for my statement color and repeated it several places. I also changed out our curtain panels back to my darker linen and repeated dark accents throughout the room. (My curtain panels are no longer available, I found similar HERE). Also I added THIS pillow to my sofa to pull in the dark color and the rust colors.
3- Fashion- Everyone needs a Cape vs Decor- Every sofa needs a throw!
“One of the strongest outerwear silhouettes to come out of the Fall 2019 collections was the cape. The many variations prove the heroic cut works for every occasion.” Really? If you say so….
Fall Home Decor Trend- Add a Throw
For fall, every seating space needs a throw! Nothing cozies up the room quite like a throw blanket. It is a superhero cape for your chair and sofa! It is also a great way to unify a color story or add texture. Some of my favorite throws are here and here. (Some of my new favorite throws are the ones with tassels HERE use code NESTING30 for 30% off!)
4- Fashion- Put a feather anywhere and everywhere vs Decor– Tassels and Fringe
“Instead of feathers and fur weighing you down, designers are giving the texture a lighter touch.” WOW!!! Anyone??? I wish I had a place to go to wear this!
Fall Home Decor Trend – Tassels and Fringe Pillows and Throws
I LOVE all the tassels and pom poms on pillows and throws! This just adds the extra touch of coziness to a room for Fall. And don’t think they don’t go unnoticed! (Find my new 22″ black pillows with tassels HERE use code nestinglaborday10 or my cream pillows HERE)
5- Fashion Fall Decor Trend – Satin pillows in jewel tones vs Decor– Texture
“Break out your steamer, because satin is back in a big way.”
Fall Home Decor Trend- Texture with pillows, plants and more!
For the home, it is about bringing in a bit of sheen or texture to a room. How about a glossy planter for your favorite plant or a collection of glass bottles for the shelf? You could also go literal with satin sheets or satin pillow cases! Or I pulled in the texture trend for fall with my pillows and lots of plants.
6- Fashion Fall Decor Trend – Slashed, Asymmetrical Necklines vs Decor– Asymetrical Styling
If you’re on the fence about off-the-shoulder silhouettes, this asymmetric neckline is a nice compromise.
Fall Home Decor Trend- Asymetrical Accessory Styling
For the home, consider looking at your focal walls and spaced. Do you have a book shelf that could use some mixing up? Consider moving your shelves so that they sit asymmetrically. Make each side of your fireplace or television wall different and asymmetrical. I added a plant that makes my fireplace decor asymmetrical. The result? A lived-in not perfect look that screams Fall.
Tip: Asymmetry should still be unified. Consider the color palette, size and scale of pieces and balance when creating a pleasant asymmetrical bookshelf or focal wall. Notice how I balanced out and related the scale in our bookcase.
7- Fall Fashion Trend- Statement Hats vs Decor- Statement Hats as art
Designers must be bored of beanies, because they presented all kinds of wacky toppers for fall. Ummmmmmmm…..
Fall Home Decor Trend- Statement Hats as art!
I love to decorate with hats and wear hats! Mine might not be as “on trend” with the above statement hat. BUT I think a hat makes a statement no matter what. I just got THIS new green hat and absolutely love how it fits! (Also hung my hats as decor with THIS hat rack)
PS- really loving THIS thermal shirt for fall!
8- Fall Fashion Trend- Golden Standard vs Decor- Golden Accents and Colors
I wear gold jewelry daily, but the runways served up full looks dipped in 24k. Totally casual.
Fall Home Decor Trend- Gold Decor Accents
For the home, gold remains a staple for me in hardware, frames, pots, etc. To take it up a notch, consider adding a piece of gold furniture or spray painting a few objects! See some of my favorite tips for adding GOLD into your home here. I still love my vintage typewriter!
9- Fall Fashion Decor Trend- Prep School vs Decor- Plaid and Old School
Designers are mad for plaid. “Checks and plaids will be everywhere this season,” Basloe noted. This one I can get on-board with.
Fall Home Decor Trend- Plaid and Old School Decor
I love wearing plaid in the fall. And I do have a few pillows and throws that are a plaid pattern, which is so easy to mix in for fall decor. I suggest also trying mixing in some “old school” vintage pieces. Both of the pieces of art I mixed in my bookcase were thrifted and a little more “old school” or traditional feel. Mixing eras and styles is a really great way to add a lived-in cozy vibe for fall.
Obsessed with THIS plaid top. It fits very loose, which I love because I added a knot to the front. I got it in the red and the green. And my pants are Levis brand (feel old school to me!) find my pants HERE.
I hope that gave you some new ideas on how to make your home feel like fall without buying from the “fall” section at Home Goods. You might already have everything to make an on-trend fall look this year!
Where did you get your large glass jar on your shelf that has the candles in it? Did it come that way or did you put the candles in it? I drool over it every time I see it in your pictures and stories!
Thank you! it is from Etuhome.com
Love all your textures – makes me want to sit in your cozy room and read a book with a cup of tea. Yummy colors and very inviting.
Wish I could find a lower-priced dupe for those cream colored Anthro thickly tasseled pillows. They are out of my price range, but sooo lush. BTW, can you please source your rust sneakers for us? Nice color!
Love this post. So many great ideas and love the clothes! Obsessing over your shoes… can you link them?
I’m glad you linked your jeans, because I was loving them in every shot. It’s SO hard to find jeans that aren’t super-skinny these days!
