Our basement family room has gotten a lot of use already after only living here for 6 months. We especially love this large space to gather around the holidays and for winter birthdays! This basement space is a really long narrow room, basically a bowling ally! I was concerned with how narrow it was that we wouldn’t be able to get a lot of seating in here. I was wrong! With the right furniture placement we pulled it off! We have easily gathered with 20+ people and could squeeze in way more if needed!
The biggest things we did in this room was make the windows larger, moved the stairs to another location and updated the dark rock fireplace. The ceilings are 8′, so we painted the walls and ceilings the same bright white to make it feel larger, in All White from Farrow and Ball. We also added shiplap to the ceiling, we had our finish carpenters do that part before we moved in.
