I am thrilled to be one of the surprise homes on Jennifer Rizzos Holiday House Walk with 31 other amazing bloggers and 5 Instagram surprise houses! They are all such a treat to the eyes, so much inspiration and all so unique in their own way. I have loved looking at all the homes this week in the popular Holiday House Walk. If you came from Live Sweet Blog stop #3 of the Secret Holiday Houses, welcome!
I shared some of my Holiday home tour on Monday. I saved some areas for this tour. I was surprised in a 1200 square foot cape cod style house I could come up with two Christmas home tours, but I did. We moved from Utah in January of this year, the homes are much larger and more affordable there in here in Connecticut. I had two full size trees and it would take me two full days to put it all out.
Rather than the two full size trees, that I used to do. I put up several small flocked trees from King of Christmas.
I tried to add a lot of Christmas details to make up for the large tress. Needless to say there is a touch of Christmas all around. Our straw to fill our Giving Manger when we give to others, keeps us focused on the real meaning behind Christmas and why we go to all this work. (That’s my cute parents on their engagement day, reminds me of a classic wintery scene.)
I started collecting nut crackers this year, these are my first two! I found one at a second hand store and the wood one from Home Goods. My grandma collects nut crackers and I look forward to admiring them every year. She has always made a big deal about decorating for the holidays and even as a child I remembered that, it has left such a warm memory. I hope that is what I am creating for my family.
I made these stockings two years ago. I just copied the pattern of one I already had, it was really easy. I made a couple extra incase we added to our family, and now I am glad we did! One of my friends hand stitched our initials on them, I think of her every year.
I hung my holiday art from VOL25 on our coat closet door with washi tape, kind of obsessed with this tape.
I added some pine branches from a tree outside to our wall groupings. I just found the painting in the gold frame at a flea market, the colors went well for the Holidays, but I am sure I will keep it up all year. I love my newest little art sketch from Minted I will show more of it another post. You can find my “Hello Sunshine” art HERE. Let’s head uptairs to see my daughters bedroom.
I shared my daughters bedroom update last week HERE. So it was fun to add a little Christmas touch this week. I bought their silver tinsel tree after Christmas at Target a few years ago. My girls love it because they can keep it on all night as a night light, it makes their room so cozy. And I love it with my new temporary wallpaper from Tempaper Designs.
I tend to buy Christmas decor after christmas when it is 75% off, I don’t go shopping with that intention, I see things that are such a good deal I can’t just leave it on the shelf! Like these polka dot stockings I found last year, I thought they would make cute additions to christmas wrapping. But they found a new home this year.
I hung wreaths I found at Home Goods on both their windows, I love the style of these old 1950’s windows and wanted to highlight them.
The little Christmas house was a gift and it is actually pretty sweet in their room. Honestly anything with a light just becomes 10 times cuter!
I changed out the art that was above their dresser. This art from Minted is simpler than what I had there before. I noticed that when I keep art simple above pieces that I add accessories in front of it keeps art from getting lost and everything seeming too busy. There is a lot of christmas going on here that it could feel cluttered. I like to hang my busier art in open spaces.
I had already switched up their bedding for the winter, the squirrel pillows from Ikea add that winter touch. You don’t need to do a big switch out to all your bedding. But even taking away floral or summery looking pillows and adding a throw to your beds will make a nice change for the season.
I couldn’t wait to switch out the antlers on this deer head to a winter look, it is from Plain Jane Home.
Now we are back downstairs in our kitchen. I had fun putting some red into this space, I shared different pictures of my kitchen on my last christmas post HERE.
I added some fresh pine garland from Home Depot above my little kitchen window along with paper garland I had and some lights. This is where a lot of time is spent so I think it should be really festive for the one doing all the dishes!
The other night at dinner my 4 year old said after we were saying what we were thankful for for the day, “now lets go around and say our favorite Christmas thing Mom put out today.” It was so sweet, validated why I care so much about creating a beautiful home for us. So I rewarded myself with some leftover birthday cake after taking pictures. Merry early Christmas to me.
We started counting down the days until Christmas with our countdown calendar you can find HERE.
