Master Bedroom Makeover coming at you today! This bedroom has been a long time in the making! I made over this then clients home (now friend) when we moved to Connecticut about 3 years ago. I looked at doing her entire home and knew we would do it in stages, with the master bedroom being last on the list. Isn’t that always the case? I do agree that you want to do your main living areas first, then tackle the bedrooms. But how nice would it be to have a sanctuary to relax in first?
You might remember this home, everything is was thrifted! And this master bedroom is no exception, besides a couple new pieces to complete the space. I do want to mention that there are little things you can do before completely overhauling a space. Like painting furniture! When I went to Amy’s home 3 years ago I suggested that she paint the dark dressers she had white so it would brighten up the space and feel cohesive, rather than looking like a bunch of thrifted furniture.
Thank you The Home Depot for sponsoring this post
Master Bedroom Before and After-
Can you believe the change? Same bed. And we do have the same dresser (painted white) in the room that you will see coming up. Let’s look at the before again….
Walls were color matched at Home Depot- Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray
The one new piece of furniture we added to the room was THIS writing desk from The Home Depot. Amy is going to start working from home, so a new desk was in order. We are in love with this modern navy blue one with gold accents. I really liked how the modern style would give her thrifted and vintage finds an entirely new, refreshing look! And THIS The faux fur desk chair!! I can’t even handle how awesome it looks!
You can see in the above, before photo she did have an armoire in her bedroom between the first time I took the photo. She does love the armoire, but we discussed that it really wasn’t serving a purpose, besides taking up space. She had a bunch of bedding that was not ever used. So we moved the armoire to a new spot in her home and now this desk can really shine and not feel so cramped.
Amy is the thrifting queen and finds great pieces that I can work with! She found the art above her desk for $20, it was from Minted. The baskets to the right of the desk were both $5 each at a Tag Sale! The large jug on the desk she found for $8 at Good Will and books that the jug is sitting on were $1 each at a Tag Sale. Just shows that mixing in thrifted pieces with a couple new will give you such a personalized and affordable look! Check-out the wall shelf she found for $8 at Good Will!
We found brackets and got just a basic piece of wood from Home Depot that was already painted white to make a custom shelf!
Another addition to this master bedroom was wallpaper! I mean, you didn’t think I could do a room without wallpaper did you?
I hung THIS removable wallpaper from Home Depot on the wall where their tv is. It makes such a statement all in it’s own! The Home Depot has knocked it 0ut of the part with their fresh spring items! This room feels so light and bright with all these new additions. (PS- the stand the snake plant is on was $10 from Good Will!)
The best part about wallpaper is that you don’t really need anything else! Less is more! We didn’t hang any of the art back up and Amy loves it! She said it is so much more restful to relax to.
New ceiling fan was a need in this room! It totally updates the look of the room and blends so well with the modern desk. We found the fan at The Home Depot HERE.
We also ended up doing two rugs to add some color and also get the right size! You can find the rugs HERE. And another addition was removing the old blinds and going with something a lot cozier and that softened the room, you can find the affordable roman shades HERE.
THIS mirror was a nice addition above her bed, it makes the bed more of a focal point and adds height! Love how you can see the wallpaper reflection in the mirror.
Simply changed out the knobs on the nightstand to these Amy scored at Anthro! The nightstands Amy got on Craigslist for $25 each!
We found all the real plants in this room from The Home Depot too! If you follow me on Instagram you know stopping at The Home Depot weekly to get a plant is one of my favorite addictions 🙂
Hopefully that gave you some ideas on how to update your bedroom by mixing in thrifted pieces with a couple special new pieces! Like the thrifted trunk Amy found at a Tag Sale for $20! Click on an image below to shop the room or similar items.

These are my favorite posts of yours! You and Amy should be a team and take over the neighborhood! Have your own show! 😉 Thrifted objects with your designer eye is ah-mazing! I love her bedding here. Since you didn’t source any of it, I’m betting it was thrifted. Beautiful!
Thanks!! Sorry! Here are the links to the bedding-

Great room! I notice the rug curling up in a corner. Mine does the same thing- any advice on how to keep them flat? I have googled and have tried the stick on tile thing on each corner but that only lasts a couple weeks, then the tile peels off or starts to break into tiny pieces. Any tried and trued suggestions would be helpful!
we just unrolled int before the pictures. I would put something super heavy on the corner and leave it there for a couple days- and spray the rug lightly with some water before.
I love the room-it really turned out great. Especially the blue desk just adds a nice pop of color.
It is kind of fun to see wallpaper making a return…just not for me just yet-but I love to see it in another’s home.
Have a great night-
I’m so inspired by this room! I can’t wait to implement some of these ideas in my master–especially that desk space! Thanks for continually sharing your talent with us, Brooke.
Wow.. you did it again. This looks awesome. I love, love the $8 Good Will shelf
Amazing transformation to something so serene! I noticed in one of the first ‘before’ photos she had jewelry out on a display hanger. I find that things like this are what clutters up our tiny bedroom with no storage space and add to visual clutter too, but I can’t figure out an affordable way to corral them that’s functional. Any suggestions? Thank you!
Good question! She does have a god size closet she could put it in. I put a jewelry box in the basket under her nightstand that didn’t have anything in it…
So glad you kept a ceiling fan — and a very cool one at that. So many designers ban them completely, seemingly not thinking of their function. To sleep under a gentle breeze in the summer — or any time of year, really…….lovely room, congrats.
Gorgeous! I’m so inspired by this post! Where are the lamps and square print behind the desk from? Thank you for sharing this transformation!
Absolutely GORGEOUS room/transformation! I appreciate your dedication to your posts with linking many of the items that you’ve used… With that said, I’m loving the woven planter on the dresser and was wondering if that’s a new purchase or thrifted as well? Thank you for all that you do!
Hi! That was from Target last year that she thrifted at Good Will!! Our Good Will gets a lot of clearance items from Target!
Where do you find euro shams/large pillows for beds usually? I’m wanting something exactly like what was used on Amy’s bed (neutral/tan). I’ve been looking around and haven’t quite found anything I like! Thanks 🙂
Gorgeous!! We are planning a master bedroom update and this perfect inspiration. The current ceiling fans in our house all match and are super out-dated. Would it be weird to have an updated fan in our master without updating all the fans right away?
for sure!!! Totally ok to do one space at a time. And you maybe wouldn’t do them all the same anyways?
Wow after the room makeover it looks really bright and fresh. I am really inspired by your master bedroom makeover ideas. I think some small plans can change the whole rooms look. Thank you for your ideas.
Love everything about this room and her house! Great job!! Is there any chance of a post on how Amy hasn’t become the ultimate thrifter? I’m sure it’s all persistence and patience, but a blog post on thrifting 101 would be amazing! Again, stunning job!!
Where are the lamps from? Everything looks so great! Very inspiring!
Thanks!! Here-

what did you use for lamp shades? What color?
It was a white drum shade from Target- I don’t see it online anymore!
Did the wall you put wallpaper on have texture? Saw on website that walls need to have a flat surface. All my walls have orange peel texture and was courious if your friends wall had the same.
It was flat. I know a lot of people have used it on textured walls. Maybe request a sample to try it??
This is so inspiring! One of my favorite makeovers of yours! And now after seeing this, I’m ready to makeover my bedroom lol. Also, do you have the link to the knobs you put on the nightstands? I know you posted in your stories but I can’t remember where they were from.
Thank you! yes! Here- https://rstyle.me/n/dh2benb5qwf
There are only a few blogs I follow that give me a rush of inspiration every time I read through them and yours is one that never disappoints. You got that inspiration magic. Always..
Hey there! I’ve been looking for a lumbar pillow like the one used on this bed. It’s perfect! I’ve searched through comments and on insta, and I was wondering if you could provide it again 🙂 thanks!!
What paint did you use on the dressers? I have the same dressers from Pottery Barn and would love to paint them white!
she had it done.
But on this post I talk about painting white furniture https://nestingwithgrace.com/dark-furniture-to-bright-with-wallpaper-accent-wall/
What size rug is the damask? Also it looks sold out. Is there anywhere else i can purchase besides target?
IT is 8×10- only target
