I get a lot of questions on my butcher block countertops. The main thing I get asked is if I like them and how they are holding up. When we remodeled our kitchen in March of 2015 (you can read more of that HERE) I knew I really wanted to do butcher block countertops. For a couple of reasons, I love the warmth they add to a kitchen, the price and how quickly you can get them verses having a template made and not having countertops for a week or two. We actually had our kitchen cabinets refaced as we lived in the home so cutting the down the time that we could have a functioning kitchen was ... Read More
Finns Birth Story
I don't know why I have been dragging my feet on writing about Finn's birth. It seems so fresh still. It was a long labor, emotional, hard and yet on April 24th it was one of the third happiest days of our lives. We got what we had been praying for, a little baby, straight from Heaven. With my first baby I didn't really have a a birth plan or my mind made up on the birth. I knew that I wanted to maybe try to have her natural. But I wasn't really prepared. After my water broke I went to the hospital and the contractions started to get uncomfortable. My mom was there, both of my ... Read More
Living Room Spring Update and Deann Art
Spring is my favorite season. I love when I can clip fresh blooms from the yard and easily brighten my home, especially my living room. When Spring rolls around I find myself wanting to declutter and change things up in my home. I am constantly moving things around. I recently got a gorgeous new piece of art from the lovely Deann Designs, who has been featured in Country Living amongst many other venues. Getting something new always spurs on a little re-decorating. Updating your home with the seasons doesn't have to cost a lot of money, simple changes can go a long way. Deann Designs ... Read More
Homemade Bread and my Mom
"They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad an sincere hearts." Acts 2:46 My mom has been on a mission to accomplish that exact scripture. She found a homemade bread recipe that she loved and made a goal to bake one loaf of bread a day and give it to someone. That alone shows how thoughtful, empathetic, loving and Christ-like she is. She says "nothing is better than getting a loaf of warm homemade bread." I couldn't agree with her more. Think of the last time someone made you homemade bread? I can remember one of my best friends, Rachel baking a fresh loaf of french ... Read More
Girls Shared Bedroom with Cami Tidbits
I love anything that Cami shares on her blog Tidbits. I first noticed her kitchen then fell in love with the rest of her home. That included her daughters shared bedroom. I wanted to get the full scoop and share it for my column I write for Everything Home Magazine on kids spaces. The first place Cami started in the design process of this shared bedroom was the white walls. She needed the room to look as big as possible to fit two kids into a rather small space. Her solution was to paint the walls white and to add wood detailing to make them more interesting. It is very important to Cami ... Read More
Favorite Things in April
We walked to the beach the other day after school and my 38 week doctors appointment. The beach felt so amazing. The air is cooler and your senses are heightened and you cant help but relax. I wanted to get down to the beach before I have baby boy. We plan on going back this weekend if baby doesn't come. I gave my hubby my camera, which I never do but I wanted some pictures of just the girls and I. The beach is one of our favorite things and we love that we can enjoy it right now. I gave my girls matching purses as a little pre-baby gift. They are another one of my favorite things and that is ... Read More
DIY Painted Deck and Decor
We shared our back yard deck reveal last week HERE we partnered with Raymour and Flanigan on the project. We are absolutely loving this new space. I am actually sitting on our new sectional writing this post and taking in some vitamin D. I promised to share how we painted the deck, and by we I mean my sweet hubby. It was a real labor of love, a lot of spindles needed to be painted. He actually started to paint it with some paint that he picked up at Home Depot that was on sale. I was away for the summer visiting family in Utah and he sent me a picture, and I told him "ya, that does ... Read More
Kids Space in a Tiny House
Welcome to the Blogger Stylin' Home Tour Work & Play series! I am joining 30 other bloggers to share our view of work & play. If you are popping over from Iron & Twin, welcome! I love to see how others live, play, work and use their homes. I am thrilled to be apart of this series. We have been working on a lot of spaces in our home since adding a little baby boy nursery to our home (you can see his nursery reveal HERE). One area is our playroom, and in a tiny house we had to find a little space in our home to carve out for a play area for our kids. I am still finishing up a few ... Read More
Our Baby Boys Nursery Reveal
Before the finished photos I wanted to show that setting up this nursery was quite the process as any remodel of a room can be. And sometimes we forget the the process can be so exciting too. I knew that things would get better, although it felt like it wouldn't. All the boxes we had sitting in our backyard would eventually get opened and pieces put together, in a small house you don't have a lot of room to shuffle things around. My little assistant always by my side extremely excited to open all the gifts we were given and to help me "organize" it all. Makes me so happy to see how ... Read More
Over the Moon excited for Boys Nursery
I am so excited to share our little baby boys nursery with you this Friday and here is a little peek! I have been stressed about getting this done in time for our baby boy who is due May 1st, I know babies don't need much but I didn't want to be working on a big project right after he was born. It is coming so fast, I am 37 weeks right now and having contractions daily. I am not ready to have him just yet. Why is it that I feel like I need to completely de-clutter my entire house and every drawer, organize the basement, buy enough toilet paper to last us a year, clean all the baseboards and I ...
