If you follow me on instagram then you saw we made a little change to our front porch! We added tile on each of the front of the steps! I actually was thinking of painting some sort of pattern with the black stripes we had, maybe a buffalo check pattern- kind of like a rug up the steps. But on second thought, I felt it would look too "crafty" ha! So I typed "painted steps" into Pinterest hoping for some inspiration. And in the painted steps search, I saw some stenciled, tile looking front steps- just on the front of each riser. Loved the look. But hate to stencil. So we came up with another ... Read More
Painted Play Set and Backyard Updates
I have really been wanting to paint the playset. We bought it last year and I knew we wouldn't paint it last year, since we sealed it right when we got it. I casually mentioned wanting to paint the playset the other day to Kevin, and he was like "no way" but we all know that means "not today, maybe tomorrow". I took a poll over on Instagram asking if I should paint the playset (knowing I would paint it no matter what the poll said). I was just curious how many people would paint their playset if they had one. I was actually surprised that 69% said not to paint it and 31% said yes!!! Of ... Read More
Friday Favorites Porches- Awning and Fall Doormats
Have you started adding some fall decor to your home? My favorite place to decorate for fall is our front porch. I have slowly been gathering ideas and thinking what I want to do. And Lola, my mini me keeps asking me when we are going to do it. Maybe this weekend we will start. For Friday Favorite today it is about porches and doormats- because let's be honest those are a BIG part of the front porch. Agree? We just got THIS black awning below for our back porch and love it! I always thought we were going to have to build something and was planning on it. Until I saw Young House Love ... Read More
Our Free Little Library
Kevin built me a Little Free Library! I have been saying for sometime now that I want to build a Little Free Library to put in front of our house to share books with the community. If you haven't heard of Little Free Libraries before it is a neighborhood book exchange where anyone is encouraged to take a book or leave a book! The first Little Free Library was built in 2009 and now there are over 75,000 Little Free Libraries out there in the world! Anyone can build a Little Free Library (more on that at the end) or you can buy one already made or a kit. There is even a Facebook group for Little ... Read More
Our new Garden and Tips to keep Animals Out
This post is a sponsored post We have a garden! Three years in this house and this is our first garden in Connecticut. At our previous home in Utah we made garden tables for tomatoes. It was a big fail. The bottom of the tables fell out once the tomato plants got bigger, leaving us with a big pile of dirt. It was a great concept with the intention of keeping animals out of our garden and not eating all the juicy tomatoes. After that experience we were jaded and felt that gardens were a big waste. This is my inner monologue- "I am an avid farmers market goer, I can get garden ... Read More
Friday Favorites starts with New Fence and Memorial Day Sales
I didn't want to do an entire blog post all about our New Fence, not sure how many of you are interested! So I am including it on our Friday Favorites along with some major Memorial Day Sales! I wanted to share what our cedar fence looks like now it's up, why we picked this type of fence, where we put it and what we paid. I can not even tell you how much I LOVE this fence. This fence means safety for our wild inquisitive Finn. Also I feel the need to share this. The other night I was driving my daughter home from soccer. They have soccer practice in an area of our town that is not by Main ... Read More
Painted Front Door Tips and our new PINK Door
I got an itch or a craving to paint our front door pink! Well actually it has been itching for a long time. But just recently we got new siding and the question came up if we wanted our black shutters put back up on our house. This might not seem like it relates to the front door but it does. I PERSONALLY like the front door and shutters to be the same color. We once had a navy door and navy shutters. Well, if I back up to the start when we bought this house the front door was hunter green with hunter green shutters. We painted the front door the navy and spray painted the shutters. Then ... Friday Favorites starts with Deck String Lights and Summer Essentials
Friday Favorites is a siding update along with some other favorite things! We have been busy putting things back together after our new Cedar Impressions were installed! The big question was if we should put our black vinyl shutters back up. Funny thing is I had not even thought about it until the installers asked me, rather than just putting it all back how it was. It is ALWAYS good to question (that coming from a born "Questioner"). So then I thought hmmmm, maybe I shouldn't! After much deliberation and help from a lot of you, we went with no shutters in the back! I will share tomorrow what ... Read More
15 Examples Instead of using Lattice under the Deck
You know that book "If you give a mouse a cookie"? Well if you give a girl new siding, she wants a new deck. I mean not a full new deck. I have looked at our deck before but once you elevate one thing it makes the other shabby things looking...well, shabby! We have lattice underneath our deck and just don't love the look (for us) and mixed with our new Cedar Shingles. Too busy. A lot of you have the same thoughts about the lattice under your deck too and were looking for ideas! Thankfully the homes in our area are full of ideas to replace the lattice work. We live close to the beach and the ... Read More
