There’s something special about helping your teen create a room that truly feels like hers. When a space is decorated with her personality in mind, her art, her collections, her favorite colors, she naturally wants to take care of it and keep it nice! Here are the essentials my teen girls absolutely love in their rooms right now and honestly, I love them too.

1- Cozy Bed

A cozy bed is basically a teen’s favorite place.

Sleep is so important for growth, mood, focus, and just feeling good overall. I love creating a bed my kids actually look forward to climbing into at night, soft, cozy, and a space that feels like their own. Lola Bed

Lola especially loves her bedding, it’s her little haven at the end of a busy day, and having a bed she adores helps her feel relaxed and ready to recharge.

Bedding Basics

2-Vanity Mirror & Get Ready Station

A dedicated spot to get ready makes mornings smoother and more fun. A vanity mirror with good lighting, a small drawer unit, and a cute chair (similar here) instantly creates a space that feels grown up.

When we designed these built-ins, I originally imagined the girls using them as a work desk. A spot for homework, art projects, and creative messes. But funny enough, it’s become their favorite get-ready station instead! It’s where hair gets curled, makeup gets shared, music plays, and the day begins. I love how spaces evolve into what they actually need, sometimes even better than what we planned!

Vanity Mirror Options

3- Floor Mirror

Every teen room needs a full-length mirror. It makes the space feel bigger and brighter, and it’s perfect for outfit checks before school, games, or hanging out with friends.

4- Spot for Collections

Whether it’s special books, Polaroids, trophies, or little keepsakes, teens love having a shelf or ledge dedicated to “their things.” It makes their room feel personal and tells their story.

We found Lola the cutest wall shelf (hers is thrifted, this one is cute!) to display her Sonny Angels, and it instantly made the space feel intentional instead of cluttered. When collections have a designated home, the whole room stays tidier and more put together.

Lola is my little collector girl, and she also loves collecting Calico Critters.

We found they look so adorable displayed inside this glass house cabinet . It gives her treasures a special place and adds personality to her room.

5- Jewelry Storage

Tangled necklaces are the worst. A wall-mounted organizer, jewelry stand, or drawer insert keeps everything easy to see and grab while preventing knots and clutter.

You can find adorable new options, or keep an eye out for unique jewelry boxes while thrifting, they add character and double as decor.

6- Plants

Plants instantly make a room feel fresh and alive. Even a small potted plant on a desk or nightstand softens the space and adds warmth. Plus, caring for a plant is such a great way to teach responsibility…definitely easier than a fish! Lola especially loves her plants. She would tell you they’re her absolute favorite thing in her room. All our favorite plants here.

7- One of a Kind Decor

This might be a thrifted piece, framed art they created, concert posters, or something handmade. Unique pieces make a room feel curated instead of copied. Let them mix patterns, colors, and textures. It’s all part of discovering their style. Lola has been collecting fun things to create this curated wall.

8- Hooks

Wall hooks are underrated. Backpacks, hoodies, purses, and hats all need a home, and hooks keep clutter off the floor while making cleanup quick and easy. Adding hooks to the back of a door or in a closet like this accordion wall hanger is such a simple solution for teens to help keep their room clean.

9- Spot for Friends to Sit

A cozy chair, small loveseat, floor cushions, or even a bench at the end of the bed gives friends a place to land. Teen bedrooms often become the gathering spot, so making it inviting really matters.

We especially love the girls’ window seats! They’re such a cozy place to sit and admire the view, read, or just relax. And when friends come over, they double as the perfect extra seating spot for hanging out.

10- Diffuser

We’re big fans of having a diffuser in bedrooms. We all love our rooms to smell nice, but we don’t love the idea of a candle burning in there. A diffuser feels like a safer, simpler option and pure essential oils can be wonderful for creating a calm, sleep-friendly environment. Disco Ball Diffuser

11- Memo Boards

Bulletin boards, cork boards, or framed pin boards are perfect for photos, notes, schedules, and little reminders. They keep memories visible while helping with organization at the same time.

Lola especially loves her fabric board. She uses it to hang photos, reminders, artwork, and whatever inspires her that week. It’s functional but also feels like part of the decor. We made one for a baby girl bedroom makeover, makes for darling decor that beautifully displays your teen’s art.

12- Music- Record Players, Speaker, Alexa or Google Home

My girls love listening to music on their record players, speakers, and AirPods. For a teen room, having a space to play and enjoy music isn’t just fun…it’s essential!

A teen bedroom doesn’t have to be perfect… it just needs to feel personal, cozy, and functional.
