We recently painted one of our guest rooms purple, with green wallpaper. I was asked if I was going to change the paint color so boys would like it too. To me color is color, and all the kids love it, because it is a room they can enjoy! That being said, if I stay in your guest room, I honestly could care less what color your walls are painted. All I care about is if the bed is comfortable, I have extra blankets and the temperature is adjustable, let’s be honest, that we don’t get too hot. Thought I would compile a list of the top things every bedroom and guest room should have!
Thank you Tuft & Needle for sponsoring this post
#1- Comfortable Mattress
The top of the list for a must-have in a guest room or any bedroom is a comfortable mattress. To have the coziest bedding and best sleep it all starts with a good quality mattress. We have Tuft & Needle for all our Mattresses. Tuft & Needle is one of the highest rated toxic-free mattress brands. Tuft & Needle is CertiPur label which means it is certified to contain no harmful chemicals, heavy metals, PBDEs, phthalates, formaldehyde or carcinogens. I did partner with them. But bought all our mattresses long before partnering with them! Tuft & Needle mattresses are all on sale for Black Friday, shop the sale HERE.
We LOVE Tuft & Needle toxic-free mattresses. (We use this mattress protector on them all). We have had many guests sleep on them and they RAVE about the mattress. “Most comfortable mattress I have slept on!” PS- see all the mattresses we have HERE.
If you don’t want to or it isn’t in the budget to switch out your entire mattress, but you know it is not comfortable, a mattress topper is a great option! I tried the Tuft & Needle Mattress topper and it is very comfortable! It is 2-inches thick, cooling and the ideal solution for a softer feel!

#2- Sound Machine
White noise is a must for us! Run a ceiling fan, box fan, or sound machine to help drown out any noise. We often think sound machines are for babies and small children, nope! We all have sound machines in our house, this one has been our favorite. We even travel with one!
#3- Pillow Options
I keep the pillows simple. Two options for sleep and plus they look so pretty with that hemp pillow cover. The pillows in front are Tuft & Needle Down Alternative Pillows, less dense than foam, these pillows are perfect for back and side sleepers who need a different kind of support. Then in the back are The Tuft & Needle Original Foam, dense enough for neck and back support, but light enough to keep you from heating up while you rest.
#4-Fan
Keep your rooms cool (but not overly cold). Your body sleeps better when it has a cooler temperature. I love that all of the bedding I shared is cooling and regulates temperatures.
#5- Extra Blankets
I always have a blanket on the end of our beds, easy way to grab and add warmth if needed. We love these quilts from Tuft & Needle, I like that they are oversized, completely cover the mattress. PS- we have this down duvet from Tuft & Needle on this bed and love it! I love that it is oversized, and really fluffy!
#6- Accent Lighting
Accent lighting really is such a nice touch to any bedroom. From lamps, an overhead light on a dimmer switch, to the glow of a Christmas tree during the holidays!
#7- Get Ready Station-
If you have the space, or can swap a nightstand for a vanity, or a desk instead of a nightstand. Another place for guests or the people who live in your home to have a place to get ready in their room. Also a floor mirror, is a real perk for any room!!
PS- a diffuser is a nice addition to any bedroom, make a room smell nice or help with sleep!
I shared a great checklist for guests on this blog post. One of the top requests is “what is your wifi password?” I like having it framed somewhere so anyone can jump on. I have one in my office and in our guest room! When you print make sure to hit “scale” to size down.

I am ready to come visit!! Honestly, your hospitality and preparations for your family visiting you when you lived in Connecticut are what drew me to your blog. I love all of this!
