Sharing 13 unique things to hang on your wall from serving boards, plants, puzzles, turning your own photo into a watercolor, and more! Decorating our homes doesn’t have to cost a lot, we can create a home we love no matter the budget or size of home. Especially love the personal and practical things to hang on our walls.
1- Picture into a Watercolor
You may be surprised at how easy it is to turn the photos you take on your phone into cherished art walls! And how easy it is to turn a photo into a watercolor, it instantly becomes a work of art. I use the Waterlogue App to turn photos into watercolors. Then print it out (see how HERE) and put in a frame or I found these poster hangers (more options HERE) that I clipped my art on. You can go to this post to see how I print affordable art, I have more free downloads, or grab the Swing Art in my drop box HERE that I took at our local amusement part is shared also!
Another option is shown in the above framed photo. I turned a photo of our Connecticut house into custom letterpress HERE.
2- Hang a Dish Towel
Some dish towels are just too pretty to dry hands on. My parents are bee keepers, so when I found this Bee + Honey dish towel, I knew it needed to be hanging somewhere in their home as art! Again, used these poster hangers (more HERE) that clipped right onto the dish towel to create unique, personal art!
3- Display a Unique Puzzle-
We finished this United States of America puzzle and I knew I wanted to frame it, because it reminded me of our Cross Country RV Road Trip! Ella glued ours using this Jigsaw Puzzle Glue, I have used Mod Podge before and it worked the same. When gluing a puzzle, pour the adhesive directly over the center of the puzzle. Then, spread the glue over the entire front of the puzzle using something thin and flat, like a business card. You do not need to glue the back, only the front. Leave it out to dry for at least four hours, then frame!
The puzzle is thicker than a standard piece of photograph paper, so make sure that the frame you have is deep enough to hold the puzzle. Once our puzzle was dry, we had to trim it a little to fit the frame, then just secured it inside our frame and hung it. Easy way to add art and a memory to your home!

4- Hang a Tapestry
Whenever you spot cute tapestry, hang it! I hung this tapestry, made of paper in our family room over a vintage noodle bench. You can find other tapestries HERE and HERE.
I hung this tapestry in our hall to cover a lot of space and make a statement!
I found a giant National Parks tapestry and hung in my nephews room, took up the entire wall, such a great statement piece.
Similar to a tapestry, I hung a vintage map in Finn’s Bedroom (search for vintage maps HERE).
5- Kraft Paper Roll
I love Kraft paper for wrapping gifts or using as a quick table cloth! How fun is it hanging on the wall for your favorite quote, lists, even to draw a picture. I bought our Kraft Roll HERE.
6- Frame a Card
Whether you love it for sentimental reason, or just love the design. It’s easy to frame a card and hang as art. Found that postcard of Dolly Parton at a shop in Nashville and bought it to keep for myself! I have a souvenir from the trip and art! (Find Dolly Parton Postcard HERE a Frame HERE).
7- Cuckoo Clock or Any Clock
Clocks used to be really popular to decorate our walls with, I remember decorating with a large gallery wall of clocks. I got asked if I have any clocks on our wall, I have a couple, but a Cuckoo clock is my favorite. When it cuckoo’s it just puts a smile on my face. I love everything about it. You can find vintage cuckoo clocks HERE!
8- Serving Boards
Serving Boards make unique wall art, great way to fill up the walls around your kitchen and mudroom, they add texture and are practical! But they can only be practical if you hang them so you can easily remove them from the wall when you want! I did a blog post on how I hang serving boards, even when they don’t have a hook or a hole, you can make it so you can take off the wall to use!

9- Record Album(s)
Ella has been search for vintage records, we found this one for her birthday at my favorite shop in St.George, Urban Renewal. I knew I was going to want to hang on the wall. I used poster stickers.

10- Games
I recently found a vintage foosball game that could be set on a table. I decided it would be so fun on the wall in our game room! So be on the look out for vintage games to use as decor.
We also hang new games on the wall, but the pretty version of games. I have Clue, Monopoly, and Scattergories, leaning on our picture ledge in our basement. Keep your eye out for games you like to play, but are also aesthetically pleasing. I just keep the game pieces in glass jars nearby (makes for cute decor!).
11-Kids Art
Who doesn’t love something hand drawn by your favorite people?? Finn drew a darling reindeer at Christmas following Art for kids Hub. The other day I turned on it on again for Finn to draw a flower to replace the reindeer. This is the frame I used. My nephew also loves to draw, he was hanging out at my house one day sketching and the next thing I knew he had drawn my dining room. I had also I put it in a frame and placed in my cabinet to enjoy!
12- Plants on Wall- Propagation Wall and Staghorn Fern
I hung a Propagation Wall 6 months ago in our basement, I learned about propagation and it is EASY!! Plus it creates a unique display on your wall. Plants as art just makes sense!
A Mounted Staghorn Fern is a piece of art! I soak the mossy base once a week, or more if it get’s dry. You could easily mount your own! I have had the Staghorn Fern for two years, way easy plant.
13- Gallery Wall of Portraits
Well, this is technically just art. But it is pretty unique. I have seen gallery portrait walls several times scrolling through Instagram. Mine is unique because it is all ladies. I call them “The Plastics” because it reminds me of the Mean Girls song “The Plastics” (we saw it on broadway and loved it). See how I crated this gallery wall and many other gallery walls on this blog post!

Hi Brooke! I used your affordable method of getting prints made to add two photos to our last home in order to stage it. It was so easy & I think helped the house sell faster. 😉 I just downloaded the Waterlogue app and am going to use that to get a print made for our new home. I just love your site so much – thank you for sharing your ideas with the world.
