We went from a 72″ round dining table to a 96″ oval dining table. I shared that we covered up a door in our dining room, we didn’t need with an arched glass cabinet, which matched one on the other side of our fireplace. After doing that it made the room feel so much bigger! We no longer needed to keep a walkway for the door, making it so we could actually fit a bigger table, and one that fit the rectangle shape of the room.
This is where we put the other arch cabinet, the piano was on the wall where all the portrait wall is. We moved the piano to our family room, it fit perfectly there!
Our dining room is our main kitchen table too, so it is used daily. It is right by our kitchen, I like how the longer table makes it feel more connected to the kitchen. I know some will say they like the round better, and yes, a round table looks best with the banquette, but for us and how we use it we love the oval.
Dining Room Before-
This is what the dining table looked like before, room to seat 8-10 people, which we LOVED this set-up too. But it was hard to get into the banquette and pretty tight fit with it all.
Dining Room After-
Here is our new oval dining table, still playing around with the chairs. *Update- the new oval table started to bubble, we are returning it, I don’t want to bash this company, it could have been a fluke, but the table was from HERE. We are having a custom table made (by Kevin Bills Design), that will be wider, a little longer and no leaves, just solid. I would recommend looking at oval tables from HERE, that was where our 72″ round table was from and we had zero issues! PS- we added this rug a little bit ago too!
While I loved the 72″ round table, the shape of our dining room is rectangle and not square, so it really did make more sense for an oval table. Another big reason for the dining table change was the fact that we could fit 3 more dining chairs everyday around the table. We could have done a custom table and fit even more, but this table works great for now. I really love how the table size feels in the room, it has been great for conversation and games too!
It helps to make a template of something you are trying to decide on, or tape it off in the room. I made a template of the oval dining table and it really helped to visualize and see that it would work with the banquette.
Now we can seat 12 people everyday, and even squeeze in 14. I am still playing around with dining chairs, I thought I wanted a mixture of chairs. I was leaning towards these green velvet dining chairs, they are comfortable. But I found these brighter green chairs I ordered!!!
This swan chair, is a show stopper at the captains spot. Love how the gold velvet seat, pulls in the gold banquette.
You can see the green velvet chairs here, we can comfortably fit one more on each side. The wavy back chairs are really cute, but one complaint is they aren’t very stable, there is just one center support in the middle and they have tipped a few times.
Also happy to report that the oval dining table does work well with our curve banquette (I got at a second hand shop, but recently found online HERE). A pillow helps anyone reach the table to eat if they have shorter legs.
The puppies love sitting here, by the front window, so they can watch who comes and goes.
Dining Room Plans and Sources-
Curtains // Wallpaper // Linear Chandelier // Clip Chandelier Shade // Lady Green Dress // Girl with Bow Portrait Holding Face // Banquette // Green Velvet Chairs // Oval Dining Table // Swan Chair // Wavy Rug Small Marble Table // Wavy Back Chair
We are going to add shiplap to the ceiling, and I would like it paint it in a light blue color. Along with add a grasscloth wallpaper to the walls. It helped to create a design plan, shown above to visualize changes, I use PicMonkey, Canva is another option.
Our bubble light fixture does fit the space better than I thought with adding a longer dining table, but considering this linear light fixture with some fun fabric chandelier shades.

Looking forward to lots of dinners being held here and game nights!

Ok…so it took me a while (I’m not good with change😅) but ya know, I’m really liking this. I think it fits your room better and looks very cozy. I also like how it connects to your kitchen. Good job, as usual😊
