I read a quote a long time ago, I love it, “An overhead light should only be turned on when you are searching for a lost earring.” Overhead lights can sometimes feel too harsh, a big reason we have a dimmer switch on all our overhead lights! Lamps are one of my favorite pieces of decor. If I had to choose only one item to go on a side table, console, entry table, piano, nightstand, I will always pick a statement lamp! They not only look great, but add such a cozy feeling that can’t be created any other way. I rounded up some of my personal favorite lamps below! Bonus, you can see them all in our home too!
PS- these are my favorite lightbulbs for accent lamps !!!!

From thrifted, to brand new, we love them all! I really love to score a unique, one of a kind lamp while vintage shopping, but they can be hard to find! That large lamp in our family room I got at a vintage shop. Keep your eyes peeled. Keep reading for lamps in our home and recent makeovers.
Another option is to bring to life to an older lamp base or simple lamp with a unique lamp shade! Find fun lamp shades HERE.
These sconces had a glass shade, I cozied it up with these darling fabric shades (I just wired them on).
On our console in our dining room instead of a lamp I did a picture light over the botanical art. That is another great way to create mood lighting if you don’t have a lot of wall space.

A bookcase is a favorite spot for a lamp. I added this darling little lamb with the scalloped shade, that is actually a dupe to my Serena & Lily lamps. I think it’s well made and looks almost identical! Perfect height to add to a shelf, in our office. I get asked if they get hot in the bookcase, no, not with these lightbulbs.
I recently just added the same lamp to the Peacock room makeover we did. I love lamps on a side table or nightstand. Completes the space, makes it cozy, a spot ready to use and enjoy.
This is the Serena & Lily lamp. I love the sweet little wave. I have this lamp on both side of my fireplace in these cabinets. Same size and texture, just different colors. We did have to drill a hole so we could plug in our lamp. If that isn’t an option for you, try The Magic Light Trick!
Here is the other one on the opposite side. I love that they are small and how the shade color makes the light a little dimmer, a perfect glow. Gives off light but more showcases the items on the shelving.
I love a lamp in the kitchen! If you can find a spot for a lamp on your kitchen counters, do it! Promise you will love that vibe. (our lamp in our kitchen is sold out unfortunately, but lots of options linked above!).
This lamp is a fun new find, and adds a pop of color. We have that it in our drink room. We don’t have under shelf lights, so the glow is perfect at night. The color combo is so fun, and soft light it adds to the counter space!
Love how the lamp pulls in the green and purple in our rug!
And sometimes your lamp is just a fun pop of color! Like in our entry the yellow is fun and unexpected, and I love the vintage look. Love the scalloped shade.
This lamp is small, perfect for small spaces. The base is wood and the shade is pleated. We have this one in our downstairs family room in cabinets by our game table.
I put one of the small lamps in my in-laws small sitting room bookcase, love how it looks!
The height of the green lamp is so nice!! I love tall lamps when you have space to layer other items with it, or when you need the height. The green color is so fun with a nice classic round lamp shade. (This is in our basement family room).
I actually added a lot of beautiful lamps to the Peacock room! With 2 nightstands, a side table and dresser we had plenty of space for them. This brass lamp with the plaid green shade is such a classic look. I couldn’t wait to find a spot for it! Cute details with a light pull to turn on and off.
These arched brass lamps with a pleated shade are nice and slim, they don’t take up a lot of room but do give off a good amount of light. A perfect nightstand addition!
I hope this gave you a lot of ideas of where you can place a lamp, how there are so many sizes to choose from making any space ideal. And, the colors can make such a statement piece and their own little works of art!
