Get ready for a good looking picture... ok I tricked you it is Gross! But I have to share so you can see how far we have come on this 6 Week One Room Challenge. It is fun to see how far everyone else is coming and their inspiration. Notice the forest green door. The bad chair molding that cuts the already small room in half, in most cases chair rail molding needs to go, ok ALL cases. The tiny unusable built in corner cabinet. Bad yellow walls, that don't do anything for the cream appliances or for anyone. There were very old and very ugly roller shades on all the windows. I ... Read More
Accessorizing Three Different Ways
I wanted to share some ideas and my two thoughts on accessorizing. Accessorizing does take practice and playing with different options to get a feel for why things work and what looks good. I think it is funny when we get home from vacation, my girls run to their room to play with their toys they missed while we were gone and I rearrange my "toys" that I missed! I usually have a new treasure to find a home for that I found on our vacation. I first started working with designers when I was 15. I would go out with them on installs to ... Read More
Week 1- Kitchen Remodel
I was excited when my friend Jen (who is an amazing designer and has a fantastic blog) told me to do the One room Challenge in 6 weeks! She knew that I had just started on my kitchen remodel and could use a little push. I love the eclectic feel and dark patterned floors of these kitchens I found on Pinterest. I am a big fan of dark floors in a kitchen. Even though they might (let's be real, ARE) be dirty, it isn't glaringly obvious. I also love that the floors are the statement and make white cabinets really pop. For my own personal space I like to look at images on Pinterest ... Read More
Cadbury Family Room
This was our cozy family room on Cadbury Drive in Utah. It was a small family room area so I had to maximize the space. A sectional is the best way to do that, no area is wasted. As you can see here my sectional extended past the wall, and that is ok to do. I made sure we had about 3 feet walking space between the kitchen island and sectional arm. Also using a large rug can make the space feel larger. With a sectional or a sofa and settee a good rule of thumb is to always use an 8x10. You can see my dining nook in the background (you can read more about that here ... Read More
Cadbury Entry
Welcome to my home on Cadbury Drive in Utah. This console table from Redford House once was red and I painted it in Old White chalk paint from Annie Salon. I had started using chalk paint when I painted my antique piano in Paris Gray (you can read about that here ). It was so easy to use that I started to paint everything white! I found the ottomans at a second hand store that were leather and I made simple slip covers for them. When I see milk glass it has to come home with me. This vintage milk crate was a gift from one of my good ... Read More
Cadbury Basement
Little tour of our walk-out basement in Utah we built in 2008. I love how light the walk-out made our basement and that we could easily entertain and walk right out to the backyard. One thing I didn't love was that when you were upstairs we were far away from the backyard to watch the kids play, it is a trade off. I used a large 8x10 rug in a bright color since my sectional and carpet were neutral to add a pop of color and ground it all. Rugs add so much to a space, and are essential (Yes, even on carpet, I get asked that all ... Read More
Cadbury Girls Room
This is my oldest daughters bedroom. I love to mix in vintage pieces, like the pink door knob and oval dress artwork that was passed down from my Grandma. I do like to use new bedding and splurge on nice pillows always filled with down. I occasionally will make things. I was searching for THIS pillow from Target and couldn't find it in stock anywhere so decided to make it. A lot of times you can make pillows if you have great quality fabric. I made the map artwork. I had a gallery wrapped painting I didn't want anymore. I decided to paint it cream with leftover ... Read More
Cadbury Dining and Kitchen
This is my cozy eat-in kitchen in my Utah home. We loved this brick wall. Many photo shoots were taken here of my friends families and mine, just cleared everything out and viola you have a back drop. We had the brick put in when we built the home. It is real brick that we had cut in half, I had them do "grapevine grout" a technique that is somewhat sloppy to give the appearance of old and weathered, because that just adds more charm to a new home. You can find the dining table HERE it is from Hooker Furniture. I like to always mix and match my dining chairs ... Read More
The big move
This is us sitting outside our home for the first time. It was a surreal moment, I had never seen the house before in person, only analyzed the pictures online. Kev had went and looked at about 7 homes and this was is favorite. So here we are. We went and closed on our home and a few hours later this sofa was delivered soon after. It did wonders at lifting my spirits. Made this unfamiliar place feel a tad bit like home and us. And that same day we had the carpet ripped out in the 2nd floor and they started to install the wood I had picked out a couple weeks ... Read More
Cadbury Master Bedroom
I had the same fabric queen head board from Lee Industries for over 10 years. It was a cream and white simple stripe that I loved. I was wanting to upgrade from a queen to king since the girls always climbing into our bed, but I was having hard time finding a upholstered one I loved more than what I had. Then this shelter fabric bed came to The Black Goose Design from Hooker Furniture and I feel in love. A new bed is a snowball effect. New bed led to new bedding. I love the look of an all white bed but I always end up wanting a little bit of depth. ... Read More
