When I look around my home, there are key design elements that I repeat often. Besides plants, and wallpaper. There are decor pieces I like to call the Home Heroes, the pieces that make up my design style. Sharing all of them below, and a lot of my favorite pieces are from Anthropologie and I have a 20% off code for this weekend, BROOKE20.

1- Oversized Statement Art

Go big or go home in terms of art, and decor! I prefer statement pieces instead a lot of little things or rather filling up all the walls, instead focus on one wall and go big. And an affordable way to add statement art is with a tapestry. We just added this floral tapestry to our entry wall, we love it!!!

We had to hang the tapestry from the ceiling, since this wall is rock. I like that you can now see the sweet detail on the dresser with the tapestry hanging behind the dresser. Also using a dresser as an entry piece is the best way to maximize storage!

A wallpaper mural can be an affordable way to add statement art to a space. For example this Judarn Mural is under $300 and we only used 4 of the 8 panels here, hard to find a large piece of art for that price. We did frame it out with trim molding to give that look of art. 2- Lamp Glow as the Star

I love that with a lamp or a sconce that is all you need on a table or wall. This daisy lamp is a star! A quality iconic lamp instantly becomes an heirloom piece. (I did add a stripe lamp shade from Alice Palmer (12″ tangier mustard stripe).

Also a cordless lamp is perfect on a dining table, in a bookcase or on a shelf.

Adding a plug-in sconce is an instant way to make an area feel custom.

3- Cozy Curtains in Unexpected Places-

I want to add curtains everywhere, no doorway is safe. I even use curtains instead of shower curtains, that are often too short. I added these gingham curtains to the doorway of our drink room and over our drink fridge.

Cafe curtains are back and having a big moment right now! I have them on a lot of windows. I just found these plaid cafe curtains (I used this no-sew tape to hem them, and this tension rod). I have a whole post with more cafe curtain sources HERE.

And even when curtains are a need, I like to add something extra! I this guest bedroom we layered these rick rack curtains over roman shades for a pop of color.

Lola’s bedroom got the blue version of the curtains.

And Ella’s bedroom got the pink rick rack curtains!

4- Lot’s of Extra Seating-

If I can fit in another chair, I will. We have become sectional people, we now have two. We host a lot of parties and need all the seating we can get. We added this gold sectional about a year ago and still love it! And I think if you are going to do a sectional, make it feel custom either by selecting a fun color, texture or unique pillows.

5- Fluffy Cloud Bedding-

Fluffy layered bedding is a must for me. I get asked “what if you sleep hot or live in a hot place?” My response is… if you have air conditioning you will be fine. Honestly tho, I think sheets and a fluffy full duvet insert are what make the bed, and if you get hot, just push down the duvet and sleep with sheets. We like a quilt at the end of our bed for contrast and the dogs lay on it, easy to wash it.

Just added the Matelassé euro shams and quilt, love how it brightened up the bedding! Simple addition that made it feel new!

6- The 10% Unexpected Pop of Color-

I think every room needs an unexpected pop of color to make it more interesting. It is 40/30/10 color theory. 40% of the room is one main color, 30% another and 10% that unexpected color. And yes, you can mix in other colors, but that is where majority of color comes from. In our family room we have these chartreuse swivel chairs, and I adore them!!!! PS- there is the other sectional!
