Fall Decor Ideas in our Living Room
I took a couple hours to refresh our front room for fall! I really just moved things around from one room to the next. Honestly seasonl changes should just feel like changes, they don't have to be bought at a certain isle at the store. I do like adding texture for fall and richer colors. Let's see how I did... Living Room Quick Before Photo- Living Room After Photo with Fall- The only new thing I bought were these velvet pillow covers. Everything else I just moved around. And yes, when I move things it ends up being a domino effect! Which isn't a bad things, breaths new life ... Read More
Why you should paint your storm door and 4 ways to create a fall porch
Imagine you are all ready for a fancy date night. Perfect dress, shoes, accessories, etc. Everything is cohesive in complimentary shades of color. Then you realize it is raining so you throw on an old white rain coat.. You may be dry, but it sort of ruined the look, right? Your home's exterior is a lot like that! If your storm door doesn't match the color of your front door, you may be drawing attention to the wrong thing! Storm doors serve a purpose and they sure are nice to have, but you don't want it screaming to the street or to stick out like a sore thumb! Thank you The Home Depot ... Read More
Finn’s Bunk Bed Bedding
Did you catch my latest blog post?? We added bunk beds to Finn's room! Now that they are built, I get to do my favorite part, add the finishing touches! AKA the bedding!!! On Finn's old daybed, we had zip-up bedding that we liked a lot, but I did miss the look of a layered fluffy duvet. The other goal for his bedding was cozy texture for fall! Want to See what I came up with….? Thank you The Company Store for sponsoring this post It is super cozy now, don't you want to come stay? Finn loves it too. The white window pane duvet cover was my starting off point, and the reason we could go ... Read More
Built In Bunkbed DIY for $500
We have guests a lot. We LOVE it. It is one of the ways we stay connected with our family who all live a few thousand miles away. I have posted about how we operate guests in our small cape before, but I have always felt like we could do a little better in Finn's room. Although his trundle-style daybed was nice, when our guests came, it would take up the entire room. The final nudge to switch up the sleeping arrangements in Finn's room came when his bed was a little damaged in our basement flood during renovations. Bunk beds have gotten a major upgrade lately with a minimal custom look ... Read More
Our Top Tools for Every Home DIY Project
I watched Kevin in awe as he created Finn's built in bunk beds! I mean, what can't he do? My favorite part was when he told me "If I can do this, ANYONE can." This is SO TRUE! Kevin is smart and hard working, but doesn't have a building background. The only experience he has is the stuff you see him build-- He learns as he goes!! He is confident and problem-solving and those traits (and access to youtube) is really all you need to accomplish almost every DIY home project! You have seen us hang board and batten in this dining room. Kevin learned how to bury our tramp, install tile on our ... Read More
Bike Shed and Garbage Shed
As most of you know…we don't have a garage with this 1950's house. It was a big adjustment when we moved from our Utah home that had an attached garage. Actually a lot of homes around us don't have attached garages, and if they have a garage it ends up being a storage shed. We had a shed, but we took it down with intentions to build a shed then it turned into a mini home gym (I think I should say shed one more time:) shed. There is storage behind the gym for our lawnmower and yard tools, but we were lacking bike storage! Plus I have wanted a place to hide our garbages for awhile now, so we ... Read More
Fall Front Porch with New Paint on Front Door
We painted our door a different version of the pink…a little richer, more of a salmon pink. I felt ready for a change, but we still love a pink door, it is fun to be "the house with the pink door". Painting your front door is an easy update, it can be a fun seasonal change and decorating our front porch seasonally is probably one of my favorite things. Why is decorating my porch my favorite thing? Thanks for asking! I got thinking about it after I spotted a 12' skeleton at The Home Depot. At first I walked by it and thought, that is ridiculously large and crazy. Why would you put a huge ... Read More
Two Favorite EASY Fish Recipes- Honey Dill Salmon and Plantain Crusted Cod
Kevin makes salmon weekly, everyone eats it in our house and loves it. We are sharing the simplest way he makes it today! His mom taught him the recipe. Just a little dill, honey and butter (or ghee). And we are sharing a plantain crusted cod recipe, that Kevin just made up the other night. The girls said the plantain crusted cod fish looked like it had cereal on top and tasted like it….so they loved it! ha! Both are too good not to share. Honey and Dill Salmon Recipe Plantain Crusted Cod Fish We cooked the plantain crusted cod fish in our air fryer. We have had it for over a ... Read More
Bringing a Puppy into our Nest- All about Noah
Welcome to the family, Noah! Lola was the one who wanted a dog the most, and somehow one day it just happened, her dreams came true. And really, all of us are so in love with this little puppy! We were at the right point in our family life to be able to add a puppy to the mix. After traveling to Utah and visiting family, Lola was a little sad one day about missing family (although when I asked her if she wanted to move to Utah, she quickly said no). It is always hard to be away from family, even if you are happy where you are. She has had some personal things we were working through with ... Read More
