All the Paint Colors in our Home and Wallpaper

I finally put all the paint colors from our Utah home in one place! I’ve also included a roundup of some of my favorite paint colors from past projects at the end of this post. But first, let’s talk about paint sheen. For ceilings, I prefer a flat finish. For trim and doors, I almost always choose semi-gloss. And for walls, my go-to is eggshell. It has just the right amount of durability while still giving a soft, beautiful finish.

In our current home, we used *a lot* of Farrow & Ball colors. I absolutely love their color palette, and their paint itself is gorgeous. It’s definitely a high-end product. But, not all of the paint in our home is actual Farrow & Ball paint. We hired a painter for most of the house, and our cabinet maker painted the cabinetry. I provided them with the Farrow & Ball color names and paint samples, and from there some areas were painted with Farrow & Ball paint while others were color matched. It’s important to know that a color match will never be an exact match. Different paint brands use different pigments and formulas, so there can be slight variations. In fact, we recently repainted this entire room because all of the blues were just slightly different from one another. None of the colors were “wrong,” but when they were all next to each other, the variations became noticeable. That said, I have been very happy with every color in our home and wouldn’t hesitate to color match a favorite paint color again! I just think it’s helpful to know going in that a color match may not be identical to the original paint color.

Most paint stores can access formulas from other paint brands. Simply walk up to the counter and ask, “Do you have the formula for this color?” In many cases, they can pull it up right in their system. Another option is to order a paint chip or sample and bring it with you for a color match. Personally, I’ve been able to get the color formulas I wanted at just about every paint store I’ve used. No matter which route you choose, I always recommend ordering paint samples or paint chips before committing to a color. Lighting, surrounding finishes, and even the direction your windows face can make the same paint color look completely different from one home to another.

Favorite Paint Supplies-

Wooster Paint Brush– angled paint brush we always use, allows you to cut in without using tape.
Paint Sprayer– this has two paint tips and two stain tips, also has a paint bag for easy clean out.
Smooth Roller– we use this roller cover the most for a smooth, lint free finish.
Extendable Roller– this extendable roller makes it really easy to paint ceilings and hard to reach areas.
Light Switch Cover (paintable)– paint this light switch cover the same color as your walls to blend right in!
Plug Cover (paintable)–same idea as the light switch cover, no more large white square sticking out on a dark wall.
Reusable Paint Drop Cloth– you can get plastic drop cloths, if you are doing a lot of painting these are nice to have!
Paint Deck– did you know you can order paint decks online or go into a paint store to get one? Picking paint colors just got a lot easier! (In the store I have paid $10 for a paint deck).
