When we bought our 1970's home it had a relatively small kitchen for the size of home it is. When we decided to remodel the home we opened up the kitchen, and made the island a lot larger and decided to do open shelves rather than upper cabinets. The kitchen footprint now matches the scale of the home. The previous home owners had their washer and dryer in the room next to the kitchen, which is right off the garage. We decided we wanted our washer and dryer in our bedroom along with two other areas in our home.
