I love decorating kids’ bedrooms. One of the best ways to tell if they love the result is how much more time they start spending in their room afterward. When a space feels personal and decorated just for them, they naturally want to take care of it and keep it nice. Today I’m sharing ideas for kids’ bedrooms, from creative ways to display their artwork to unique lighting and thoughtful little details that make a room feel special. I hope it gives you some inspiration!

#1- Bulletin Board Strips on Door or Large Bulletin Board-

Finn brings home so many cute projects from school. They’re all little works of art! To keep us from ending up with hundreds of papers taped all over the walls, we added these cork board strips to the back of his door.

Now he can pin up his favorite pieces and swap them out whenever he brings home something new. It keeps his artwork displayed while still keeping the room looking tidy.

Oversized Bulletin Board-

Another great option is a large bulletin board. We actually found one thrifting, but there are plenty of great options available new as well. I used it in my nephew Porters Bedroom, and it ended up being his favorite thing in the whole room. He was so excited to start pinning photos, notes, and little keepsakes on it.

#2- Get Ready Station

I got my girls vanity mirror’s for Christmas a year ago, and I’m pretty sure they ended up being their favorite gift, based on how often they use them (daily!). It’s become their favorite little spot to get ready.

Lola and Ella’s desk chair is from HERE, but I found this chair that is very similar, that we used in Elle’s bedroom makeover.

#3- Desk

In Crew’s bedroom, I found the IKEA secretary desk for $100 and a rolling cane chair for $25 on Facebook Marketplace. It really does pay to check there first! Now Crew has his own little spot to build Legos, craft, color, and do homework. Plus a place to store everything, too. We even managed to fit his 3D printer underneath.

In Liam’s Bedroom, there’s a built-in closet and desk area. I couldn’t wait to paint it (Tate Olive by Benjamin Moore) so it would really stand out and style the desk to make the space feel more finished and personal.

#4- Place for Collection

Because crafting is what Ellie loves most, we wanted this cabinet to be both functional and personal, a place to store her project supplies and also display the things she creates. I found the sweetest vintage cabinet on Facebook Marketplace, and while it needed a little TLC, I knew it would be perfect for Ellie’s Bedroom. Now it’s a special spot for her to keep her supplies organized and show off her finished projects.

First we painted it Hay by Farrow & Ball, then added peel and stick wallpaper to the back (we actually stapled it since it doesn’t stick very well to wood). We also added adhesive cork to the inside of the doors so she can pin up her artwork and display her creations. The purple ruffled baskets were such a fun find and match her room perfectly while keeping all of her supplies organized. We also added a pleated storage ottoman next to the cabinet, perfect for extra storage and a cozy spot to perch while crafting.

We finished off her new creative cabinet with a small cordless wicker lamp and a trinket tray for push pins.

#5- Display Shelf for Collection

When collections have a designated home, like this Small Glass Cabinet, the whole room stays tidier and more put together.

We found Lola the cutest wall shelf to display her Sonny Angels, and it instantly made the space feel intentional instead of cluttered. Ours was thrifted, but this wall shelf is so cute too!

#6- Musical Instrument Holder

Displaying kids’ musical instruments is a great way to remind them to practice and it doubles as art! I ordered this Ukulele Holder in Wood for Finn’s room to hang his new ukulele, and it makes such a fun display while keeping it easy for him to grab and play.

Ella has had her ukulele hanging on the wall for over a year, simply using nails. While it worked for a while, the nails were starting to get loose, so I ordered this Ukulele Holder in Yellow for her! Now it’s secure, stylish, and adds a fun pop of color to her room.

In our neighbor Elle’s bedroom makeover, she plays both the guitar and ukulele, so we took them out of their carrying bags and hung them on the wall using this hook. Not only does it keep them easy to grab and play, it also lets them double as decor!

#7- Posters on Wall as Wallpaper

Generally, people think of posters as a nuisance, just something taped to the wall, usually reflecting a kid’s latest obsession. In Ella’s Bedroom , we turned posters into a statement wall, a larger work of art!
Instead of framing them, we hung the posters directly on the wall using double sided dot stickers (one in each corner). We tested a corner first and had no damage, but you might want to test your wall surface before installing. This way, the posters feel intentional and add a bold, personal touch to the room.

#8- Basketball Hoop Holder

Small Bedroom Ideas, Boys small room, Green and blue room, sports room, basketball room for teen, how to style awards and trophies — Where are my collectors at? There are so many creative ways to display cherished items! In my friend’s son Stocktons Bedroom , we hung basketball holders to showcase his autographed basketballs. We also used an accordion rack to display all of his medals.

#9- Oversized Tapestry on Wall

An oversized tapestry map in my nephews Shared Bedroom was such an easy way to create art and a statement wall. We hung this National Parks and State Parks with nails along the top, then finished it off with a piece of trim from The Home Depot, painted black for a clean frame-like look.

To make it interactive, I found mini bottle brush trees and glued them onto push pins so the boys could mark all the National Parks they’ve visited. It’s a fun, personal touch that makes the map both decorative and meaningful!

#10- Hats on a Pegboard

In Simeon’s Bedroom Makeover, he has a large baseball hat collection, so I thought a pegboard would be a perfect way to display them and double as wall art! We made sure not to screw the board too tightly to the wall, which allows us to slide the hooks in easily and hang all of his hats neatly.

#11- Frame Drawings-

Whenever I decorate a kid’s bedroom, I always ask if they have any art they’ve created it’s the best way to personalize their walls! I like to frame their pieces in thrifted or new frames, or use frames that let you easily slide in artwork, keeping it safe and organized in one place.
In Nash’s bedroom, he had so much art he had made, and displaying it this way made his room feel truly his own.

#12- Hanging Chair or Cozy Spot to Chill

A hanging chair is just plain fun! Both of my girls said they wanted one in their bedroom, they even had a double hanging chair in their Connecticut bedroom. We also gave my niece Evie a hanging chair in her bedroom makeover! She loves crawling in with a book, and honestly, they just look so cute.

Teenager Boys Back to School Ready — One of the first bedroom makeovers we gifted, was to Patrick! And we added a faux leather butterfly chair where he could sit and practice his trumpet!

#13- Plants

Ella and Lola both have plants in their rooms, we love houseplants so much that most of my decor is basically a plant! They just bring life into a space in a way nothing else can. I’ve even seen studies suggesting plants can support better air quality, boost mood, and encourage creativity.

Plus, caring for a plant is such a great way to teach responsibility…definitely easier than a fish! Ella especially loves her plants. She would tell you they’re her absolute favorite thing in her room. All our favorite plants here.

#14- Fun Diffuser

We are big fans of having a diffuser in bedrooms. We all like our rooms to smell nice, but we wouldn’t want a candle burning in a bedroom. Diffusers with pure essential oils are also wonderful for supporting sleep and creating a calm nighttime routine.

#15- Unique Lighting

I am always on the hunt for fun lamps and unique lighting. In my nephew Porters bedroom we placed these Lantern-style lamps on his nightstand. He loves camping, so they felt like the perfect nostalgic touch while also adding warm, cozy light to his room.

Evie got the cutest squirrel lamp for her room! Hers is from HomeGoods from about a year ago, but I found a similar one on Amazon and another at Anthropologie.
We also added these acrylic floating wall shelves, which are perfect when you want the books to be the main attraction. They keep everything looking light and organized while letting the colorful book covers double as decor.

In Naomi’s bedroom makeover, we hung three paper lanterns over her bed to create the look of a chandelier. She already has can lighting in the room, so she didn’t need an actual chandelier, but the lanterns draw your eye upward and help make the room feel bigger and more styled.

5 Affordable Ways to Make an Impact in a Teenagers Bedroom — I did the same thing with paper lanterns, in our rental apartment, in Ella’s bedroom.

In our triplet sleepover room, we used wall mounted wall sconces to avoid taking up space on the nightstand.

We hung these plug-in sconces to act as bedside lamps since there isn’t much space for a traditional lamp. I hid the cord with this wall cord hider and painted it to match the walls so it blends right in.
We also used a small outdoor ceramic table as a nightstand. I wanted to keep the space open so we could fit more people comfortably, rather than filling the room with large nightstands.

And we did the same look in Finn’s bedroom with retro looking Radar Sconces! Great way to save space, and not worry about lamps getting knocked over.

#16- Pennant Flags

Boys Shared Bedroom Makeover- Gray Walls — In this shared boys bedroom, their dad had collected baseball pennant flags, so that became the starting inspiration for the whole space. Vintage pennants add so much character and history to a room. You can often find them while vintage shopping, or you can search HERE to find similar ones.
